Oh, that's what I'm asking. What are the subclasses. I never saw them mentioned anywhere. I just know the base-classes of Titan, Warlock and Hunter, but don't know their subs.

I don't think we know specifics of every sub-class or what it's called in here Focus. You can look though at the other supers and that should give you a general idea. The other super of the Titan is a shield for example so I would suspect that Focus will be all about buffing up your own and your fire team's defense.

This needs to be made more clear as a lot of people are missing out on meeting lots of great players because of the default settings.

I'm confused. How are people missing out on meeting people? There are players running all over the place by default. What does changing the roster setting do?

Haven't played much yet, but entered and started to look around as a Titan in Old Russia. I'm dumb and missed the arrow indicator and just started to go into bunkers. Encountered enemies in one that only took one damage when they shot me and near 1-shotted me in return.

Actually made me smile as I like MMO's.

Sorry if this a dumb question, but did everyone get a message from PlayStation on their PS4 talking about the Destiny Alpha? It popped up on my phone last night from the app and I haven't gotten an email code or anything so I'm not sure if they are telling everyone about the alpha or telling me I got in. I haven't been able to check my PS4 yet.

You got in. You just didn't get the email. I got an email yesterday and my code didn't work. Woke up this morning to a message from Playstation welcoming me to the alpha. Open message. Press X. Took me directly to the redeem code portion of the store and the code from the email was already populated. Redeemed the code and it took about 30 minutes to DL.

Had to leave for work but really excited to try out remote play. I read that the game is already optimized and you don't have to use the back panel. It's all front touch instead.

It's a shame that I keep reading such great experiences about Destiny here. Been trying to play since about 4pm yesterday and have gotten nothing but "Cannot connect to Destiny servers. Error code: marionberry." pop-ups at the start screen. I've tried redownloading, resetting my router, restarting my PS4, DMZ, the works. Every other game works flawlessly except this game and I haven't the faintest idea why that is. :/

I can't find any other evidence of my error, can anyone help?

When I press 'Press X to play' I get 'Contacting Platform Servers' for quite a while, then eventually an error message which says "Unable to connect to PSN. Please check your network connection and PSN status".

My PSN however, is fine as I can get on the store and everything.

How do you use heavy weapons guys? I have two apparently. Stupid question probably, I do try switching but it goes from primary AR and special (my sniper)

Seems a bit too much of a comparison against complete or relatively finished games, but I get the disappointment over something so hyped up and kept under wraps...
A fair point, but I still think my comparison is valid. This might be labelled an Alpha, but let's be frank: it's well past the real "Alpha" stage of development. This is a server stress test, and to get basic feedback on usability. The core mechanics of the game were decided and locked down a while ago, and they won't change the core shooter mechanics and world structure this late in the game.

In comparison to the fun I had with Borderlands 2, or the fun I have with Planetside 2, Destiny is lacking. Like I said, I'll stick it out for the Alpha and try my hand at the PvP, but right now I won't be picking this up. The core is just not enjoyable enough for me.

Is the first mission the alpha drops you into supposed to be played alone? I went to spaceship right after it started, because I assumed I would be running through the level with other players?

It's a story mission. You can play it alone or with two other guys.

Yes you do it alone unless you group up with people. There should have been other players running around the zone though before you headed into the building where the quest was.

Damn, the strike is really difficult. Tried doing it a level 8 buddy while I was 5 and another dude was 4. We got our asses handed to us on a silver platter :D

The game is freaking awesome! Can't wait to get fully immersed in the full game.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this game is awesome. Only did the free roam stuff so far. I'll try other stuff later.

Looks beautiful.

Wasn't able to play on my own account last night, but did have some time to watch my friend play a bit and do some messing around myself. He played the hunter while I went with the titan. Some impressions:

- Character movement was fine outside of the perceived walk/run speed. Took me a few minutes to get a feel for it, as it felt like I was moving through molasses starting out. I think it's just how Halo feels or it could just be me.

- The controls felt pretty tight and you can be fairly accurate shooting from the hip. I ended up using ADS a ton for a good deal of the encounters. It is way more accurate even if I've never been a fan of the system itself. I'm looking forward to testing out several more weapons during the alpha and beta to get a better feel for the gun system. The most interesting gun thus far was one of the shotguns that had a charge shot that literally blew enemies away. Too bad it didn't feel like it had the same utility as the regular shotgun in close quarters combat. The melee attack is def OP right now. As a side note, death seems like a real minor inconvenience.

- Old Russia feels massive with what appears to be a good deal of things to do. The nav points for missions on planet works out well enough, but I'm hoping a lot of the actual missions in the final game will have a more diverse range of duties and come from more than nodes places around the map. I've only done a small amount of the nav point missions, so there may be more to it than that even in the alpha. Group content so far in the open world areas were fine, but there was a lack of players in the area to actually complete either. One was pretty straight forward (giant crawler fallen battle), while I felt there was a lack of direction on another (drop ships I think...). I'm more curious if the world will be affected in any way if these missions are failed.

- Destiny could also use some additional information regarding how certain character stats will affect your character and growth. I figured that titans are strength based, hunters endurance, and warlocks intelligence, but there's little to no information about how these stat bonuses really effect your character. Special aspects info worked when it related to specific guns or abilities, but some sort of stat block would be awesome to get a full comparison when looking around for different types of armor and gear. Weapon stats were handled pretty well.

- The game looks visually amazing. There are tons of stunning vistas and sites everywhere. I'm very excited about exploring other areas of this game.

I have yet to do some major exploring of Old Russia which I hope to accomplish tonight. I may hit up PvP as well during the alpha, but probably not until I've hit cap and have unlocked a few more abilities and picked up some better gear.

Loads to love from 3 hours of play last night.

My problems are with MP, where the differences between Halo and Destiny become more pronounced.

My main gripe is the emphasis on ADS. Now ideally I'd like to see it removed, but that really isn't going to happen. If it must be there, then what they need to do is rebalance it with firing from the hip, making the latter the higher skilled option (i.e. harder) for players who don't want to sacrifice their mobility. This is even more important in Destiny than Halo as there are even more movement options available here. ADS should be left for longer range and to assist less skilled players in aiming. .

With 2 equally skilled players at medium range with the same weapon, the player firing from the hip and using their mobility to out-dual the other player should have the edge. Right now, its all a little bit COD.

Seems in the the alpha they really don't want you jumping and firing from the hip - in the air the reticule goes MASSIVE.

I may get flamed for this, but I hope the strike difficulties get toned down a bit it terms of how much damage enemies can take. There should of course be challenge, but if they aren't accessible, people aren't going to play them and then I don't think that bodes well for longevity. The group I was in, we could barely dent trash mobs. I'm hoping the mobs were just buffed or something since it's the only strike in alpha.

I'm confused. How are people missing out on meeting people? There are players running all over the place by default. What does changing the roster setting do?

By default it's set to join friends only instead of anyone can join in co-op. I saw a lot of people in the tower but only bumped into 3 guys in total in the wild. After changing this setting a lot more popped up.

Finally got to play last night...definitely a reskinned Halo. Little touches to make it MMO-SUPER-light but they are there. I think I might cancel my pre-order now.

Anyone know how far the storyline goes? Feels like it was short for even an alpha, unless I have to redo the same stuff over too progress after leaving the game

Most of my 3ish hours was spent alone (not that I don't mind). Think I only had about 15-20 minutes of being with others, which was usually only when I loaded into a new area/world or off a Launch. Will have to change the roster settings later to see if it changes anything.

Played for about 2 hours and I gotta say.... I got really bored. The game itself seems fun and incredibly inspired except for your ghosts voice acting. I think the level progression was a bit slow and that's what kind of killed it for me.

Nah, you're not bored. Just one of the many spoiled gamers out there with a sense of entitlement. No biggie. Game's all good.

Yes you do it alone unless you group up with people. There should have been other players running around the zone though before you headed into the building where the quest was.

That's what I thought. I waited outside the radar dish building to see if any randoms would dropped. Exited to the spaceship/hub thing, then started the mission over but no one else ever showed up.

Didn't expect this to run so well, given that I'm in South Africa and considering I get a ping of around 200-240 to any server outside SA. But yeah the game is running great! No notice of latency when it comes to firefights or group events. The Tower is pretty empty as in I doubt I've seen anyone there, but yeah free roaming I always run into a few people.

Did the lair event with two other people and again latency seemed to have zero effect. Close to LVL 8 with my Titan.

But yeah anyone in the usual position of being fucked over by the MMO elements due to latency, check this out as I'm honestly impressed with the way it's handled.

Gone from a 'don't touch with a high ping stick' to 'highly possible I'd end up buying this'

I got a purple rocket launcher last night. Only I needed heavy ammo to drop so I could use it. Is there any information on the ships/space of any kind? I imagine they will be used for something other than a loading screen. Great game so far. I'm thinking I'm going to double dip on this.

If they can somehow get the final version running at 60 fps.. That would make a huge difference for me. Are my expectations too high?

For me as long as the PVP is 60FPS I can forgive the main game being 30ish. It would be fantastic though. I don't think it's too much to ask really that a next gen game run at 60.

Then again I am aware this is just a tiny sliver of the larger whole. I have this preordered so I'll be in the beta also. I hope it has more to it than this.

All in all I'm still hyped. Will give it more of a go later. How long does the alpha last for? Is it just the weekend?

I think the level progression is slow because of how the alpha is setup. There is only one story mission. After that, it's pretty much grinding the little quests in the zone. I would think the game at launch will move you through much faster.

Got to play another pvp match just now and damn was it unfun lol, we took a hell of a beating. Lots of annoying deaths due to enemies on my backside, I really wish the game had a longer TTK, like the Halo games. And ADS is still annoying, and the mage characters float double-jump seems useless, and and and.. I'm still excited, but I feel like I want it to be Halo too much.

Anyway, how do I get to do this strike thing everyone's talking about? I want to do some proper cooping with random people.

Really? It wasn't that hard for us to get to the end (at least I think the
big ass walker is the last thing you gotta kill
) We almost had the fucker, but then we died and I had to leave. I'm sure we would've won after the second try.

For me, the biggest obstacle to getting into MMOs has always been that from an outsider's POV the genre always seemed to have (and i could be wrong) but it SEEMED to have medicore gameplay/mechanics. Destiny seems like it will be a first-person MMO with gameplay/mechanics that approximate or rival the best the genre has to offer, and I think that is worth mentioning.

PvP is no fun at all. Kill times too short, gunplay feels generic and 30FPS with massive dips don't deliver a fun experience.

This game is much more fun in terms of PvE.

And of course, things will change till release.

Remember, you can buy all ammo types in the city as well. ;)

Nope there is another big fucker with adds to kill after that
