Reputation vendors are one such thing.
Thats been done in quite a few RPG's

for example the tower, kind of the main capitol where everyone meets and the player you randomly meet on the map?
Hub worlds have always been a thing. Though the tower does have a small bit of MMO(just players) thats about the only thing making it far from an MMO. The rest is just Borderlands meets Co-op.

Yeah, carving through this area:

...feels great. I'd love if they had a really big, flat desert section, sort of a wasteland between 2 hubs where you'd be able to race through with the Sparrow with other players dodging attacks and stuff.

Hell yeah.

I need to upload some of the footage I made last night.

Why the hell does it matter if you consider it an MMO? if you don't, who cares?

Finished the strike mission first try. First "boss" was harder than the second. Ammo drops need to be more plentiful.

Hitting 8 and finding good drops has been easy for me. Some things need to be explained better though.

All in all, a fantastic alpha. Looking forward to the beta!

I'd like to completely retract my previous disinterest in this game. I'm loving this alpha. Been playing for an hour and I'm totally hooked. The frame rate seems incredibly smooth for 30fps, I know that sounds odd but it does. It looks gorgeous too. The whole universe seems really cool. This alpha will sell many people on the game I would imagine

I'm the same way-I had no interest and this is blowing my mind. For an alpha this is incredible.

Are the touchpad motions used for anything? Cause maybe "swipe up" should be to get the Sparrow out. Going through the Ghost menu sort of takes the fluidity out of it.

THAT would be a worthy piece of exclusive PS4 content.

Loving the alpha so far, been playing mostly PvP but played a bit of PvE as well. Being from Australia I was a tad nervous that we would get shafted in regards to ping/latency, but it has been flawless for me.

I wasn't too sure how good this game would be from the gameplay demo's but this alpha has sold me on it for sure!

I ran into a few of those guys in the explore mission and some level 11 guys in the introductory mission in a gave in the cliff side near where you fight the level 3 captians. Needless to say I took a few potshots then ran when I saw the complete lack of damage achieved.

Although I have been enjoying my time with the alpha, half the time I have no idea what I'm doing. In the explore mission I randomly joined up with 2 dudes to take down hordes of fallen or whatever. I didn't have a clue as to the objective so I just kept killing shit until the big spider thing finally dropped down. By that time 1 guy had dropped out, and the other guy wasn't very good. We had no chance against it, and eventually ran out the timer I guess? And then the spider went away and more hordes of fallen started dropping? Eventually the other guy got tired of the monotony and bailed out. I don't think any of us really knew what was going on lol. Either this game needs more guidance, or I am missing something critical here...

The explore thing is not a mission, it's a mode. You can take an endless amount of missions in this mode by going to the mission markers brought up by clicking the touchpad. Did you do that? It sounds like you ran into one of the randomly occurring public events, which will also occur around the explore map.

The rest is just Borderlands meets Co-op.

While it's not really a MMO, it's also improper to call it a "co-op" game. It's not. I can wander around and do absolutely nothing to cooperate with anyone. There's a reason that Bungie has pushed the term "shared world shooter." That's all there is to it. We share the space.

Another little question: I see that there are some weapons that can only be accessed if you're level 9 or higher. Since we can only level up to level 8, why are these weapons here?
Can they be used somehow? Thanks!

They're there because, instead of changing the mechanics to work with the alpha's lower cap, they just left it. And perhaps to drive us insane and make us want the full game more.

I experienced an event this morning in a lvl 5 area, a bunch of ships appeared in the sky and delivered a spider tank boss thing for me to fight. I was in the area alone, the boss had a skull next to its name and also lvl 5 minions with big energy shield pools.

There was no way i could fight this boss, unless i was doing something wrong? It had crazy health, and i couldn't even burn down the energy shields of its lvl 5 minions, btw I am lvl 6.

So i'm guessing this is a group event only thing? Do events like this when in an area alone not scale to your own lvl?

Depending on your weapon/level/skill, that spider tank is pretty easy ...
just shoot it in the legs and have good cover

Missed this earlier. Level 5 with only one green piece of armor.

It wasn't so much the spider tank itself, the the shielded flying bastards that just flushed me out of any and all cover. The gits.

It's definetily something in between.

Demon's Souls has inspired many. :')

Urk or Luke, listen to this man! The more seamless, the better.

Also, give us the option to run Dinklage's voice (Ghost) through the controller speaker only. His V/O would instantly go from cringe worthy to cool.

In the final game the level cap will be somewhere between 20-30 apparently, it's only capped for the alpha.

Trust me i'm still upset I can't use my Rare Leg Armour (only rare item i've found so far):

Played this for a bit last night and was having a ton of fun. It's the open ended co-op Halo style gameplay that I always wanted.

The loot isn't that frequent but whenever I got a drop it tended to be a worthwhile upgrade. The player movement feels like halo, the shooting feels like halo, the vehicles feel like halo.. the enemy scripting isn't up to halo levels but that might be because I only ever played halo on elite or legendary difficulties and this would be my first time playing a 'normal' difficulty in a Bungie shooter.

I chose a warlock and the class seems fun.

Level capped my Warlock and Hunter and level 7 with my Titan. Spent hours yesterday exploring Old Russia and I still haven't seen everything yet. The map is huge and bigger than you think. Spent all of today on PVP. I'm getting in the groove. I love the verticality of the firefights, coming from a Battlefield background. I've been rolling with the beginner assault rifle in PVP and it's doing work for me. Love this game. I'm in for sure.

After spending more time with the alpha and listening to every piece of voice acting (I think), I think the fault is with the voice over director. Even Lance Reddick's few lines (in the alpha) come off as hammy. It's not just Dinklage, though his performance sounds more phoned in than anyone else's.

Absolutely looooove the co-op, but despise the conpetitive mp. I mean, really? Allowing people to use their aquired gear? Seriously? Every match is so one sided due to people having insanely good weapons and gear.

All the stats are normalized in MP. It's just a matter of preference. It's the reason I keep my beginning auto rifle around in my inventory. It's a beast in MP.

Nothing like fighting the Devil Walker boss solo and running out of ammo. The game glitched and spawned no enemies for me to loot during the fight. :\

I was hoping if Bungie would give us a cape or emblem for being in the Alpha. In Reach you got a cool nameplate from it.

Fuck it, I can't play this game. There is no option to invert X-axis camera controls. I know I'm in a minority, but this is the way my brain works and the way I was raised on camera controls. GTA V was the same thing. If I concentrate really hard I can aim ok, but as soon as combat starts I'm shooting into the ground or spraying wildly. So many games support this, why not one of the biggest budget games ever made. Fuck me.

I am truly enjoying the game. Love the scenery. However i am almost always doing the missions alone. Sometimes i see a guys name in the distance, but thats it. Alpha lacks enough players i guess, or i dont know.

I'm playing inverted right now, look in the menus.

Destiny is a deep game where you as a player can rank up in many different areas.

One of the things I've been thinking about while running around is how hard it actually is to find your standing/rep/level with different factions and parts of the game.

What I want is an additional screen where you have the inventory, gear, settings etc that's a standings overview. This screens should show your progression for all different parts of the game as well as standings toward different factions.

What I would like to see here is:

Regular player level
Crucible Level
Vanguard Level
Faction Standing/Level 1
Faction Standing/Level 2
Faction Standing/Level 3
Faction Standing/Level 4
Faction Standing/Level 5

etc.

An easy overview of where you are and how much more xp is needed to advance to the next level/standing. This would help a lot so we don't have to run around to a bunch of different vendors or even travel to the traveler/last city each time to just check if we are lvl 2 in the crucible or that we have moved up in standing.

I'm playing the non competitive side of the game at the moment but I'm yet to see any other players for co-op etc. How does this work?

Spent pretty much the last two days playing when I'm awake (have the flu) and I got 8 otherwise disinterested people to preorder it after a hour because they enjoyed it so much. The game really needs to be played to understand it.

Few things I dislike so far are....

- Autoaim.
This shit needs to be able to be turned off, it's so bad at times it's painful.

- Peter Dinklage
His voice has no character to it, it's so flat it's painful.

- Partol Missions
These need to be tied to the area you find them because it's really annoying when one sends you to the other side of the map.

- Pulse Rifle
This things stuck between a auto-rifle and a scout rifle, an it loses to both them heavily. It needs something to bring it into it's own.

- Elemental stats
These things need more information but I'm kinda confuzzled by what they actual do because it doesn't look like they do anything.

- Recharge on grenade and secondary melee effect
Honestly think they recharge on these needs to be at least 3-4 seconds shorter.

- Take advantage of the ps4 touchpad
It seems like a waste to not use this as a shortcut pad for commands like summoning the speeder or ammo usage.

- A even harder difficulty
This might be in release but I really want something even harder then legend.

- Emblem customization
Surprised it isn't similar to call of duty honestly, the emblem choices just seem so crap that they should have just let us make our own.

- No trade system
This seems like a big oversight honestly, a player trade system could go a long way in this given how much crap you dismantle after a time.

Other then those I don't have many complaints as the rest of it I thoroughly enjoy. I did end up changing what class I'm playing at launch to Titan, simply enjoyed it more then the other two and I was looking forward to warlock a lot. I will say that the hunter throwing knife ability is a fucking excellent finisher move in pve or pvp.

Not feeling the PVP at all. But PVE is very much awesome.

- Bosses have way too much health. It took me 20 minutes to destroy the spider tank... And if you die you got to do the 20 minutes again.

You are right. Character screen needs more info tabs.

The music in this game is fantastic.
It makes fighting bosses that much more epic.
This alpha has definitely sold me on this game, and I can't wait to play the full version.

I've only really heard the voice acting in the trailers so far, and it seemed fine to me. Is it much worse in the game?

Played for about 3 1/2 hours tonight. Tried the strike and what not. Was kind of burnt out when I tried the crucible so I when back to exploring and found some hive enemies with ?? as the level indicator. The hell does that mean. I was by myself and all my weapons would only do 1 damage as well as my super. They seemed to stay in a particular area also.

Really bonded with the PvP now. It's glorious.

Stop penalising me for jumping and shooting from the hip, and this will be just about perfect.

man, i can't wait to explore the full game. everything feels good, the controls and upgrading and weapons.

i'm also finding myself being less lone wolf as i thought i would be. it's my preferred way to play most the time but doing the strike mission with randoms and having that unspoken teamwork is great. i even went from dancing in the hub world with randoms, to one adding me to their faction, then we went to old russia and just started knocking down quests and exploring, racing around on hover bikes like we've known each other more than the last hour.

i hope the beta adds a little more, it is painful to see a nice piece of armor or weaponry that is lvl 9, 10, required. just out of reach.

higher lvl enemies. it is pretty much pointless trying to take them out, i don't even know if a group could do it. i think when a '??' level wizard killed me, my death screen said something like it was level 20.
