Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

You know I forgot something. So when running our final strike last night a friend and I found that skywatch isn't the only area you can see an all out Fallen/Hive throwdown. We were at that area in the Rocket Yard when it had a warning and all hell broke lose between the Fallen and Hive. It was insanely fun to watch and to lkill everything. Sadly when I went to save the video I accidentally went in and out of the share option resetting the recording. It was so awesome though.

While playing a fun game of soccer with a few randoms someone's head decided to glitch a bit...lol.

Also I hope this robot's boss doesn't walk by because he was definitely not using his work computer.

Came in two hours past the deadline and played for another 4 hours. I wonder if Bungie is allowing for an extra full day.

Also, buying from the Cryptarch can be damn handy - 3 Rare Helmets from 4 purchases!

Went exploring for loot. Found this blocking the exit. What do?!

Am I alone in loving the reload animations in this game? In particular the single shot rifle (name escapes me at the moment) - the flair with which your Guardian pulls the hammer back is beautiful, could watch it all day.

Also remote play is badass. I've owned both a vita and PS4 since launch, and this weekend is the first I've truly had a beneficial experience with remote play outside my home. Playing Destiny and Watch Dogs and the in laws house 100 miles away can't be beat!

I am still away from home but managed to get to on free hotel wifi with Vita and remote play.

So playing the alpha for the first time using Vita remote play and it was working perfectly.

The initial environment is awesome. Taking down enemies using the Vita remote play was no issue. I hope I get home before they cut off the alpha so I can see this on my 55" LED tv!

It gave me a quick idea: a suggestion would be when at home use the Vita as a second screen to do things like adjust settings, options ,weapons, character etc while the action continues on the main screen..

Will post more impressions when I have more time.

They need better and more elaborate sidequests. What we have right now is the worst kind of MMO-tier quests where you just go and kill so many enemies and come back to collect your reward.
While I agree the beacon quests could be better, they aren't the point of free-roam. The point of free-roam is to explore, and the beacon quests are supposed to supplement, not replace, that goal.
This is in part due to how bad the AI is.
The AI isn't bad, it's pretty good. Some enemies stand still, like the invisible snipers, so it's easier to shoot them. Otherwise they flank, take cover, and run away if need be.

:)

You aren't alone. I consider both the heavy machinegun reload and the rocket launcher reload pieces of animated art.

So I would say this was probably one of the most successful alpha/betas I have ever done outside of the KZ2 beta. I was so flat on this game and not only am I absolutely getting it day one but 2 of my friends are getting new consoles just to play it and my cousin who is COD only is picking it up.

Definitely the game I am most excited about this year.

My brother has been literally CoD only since Halo Reach released. We used to play Halo all the time, but he's slowly moved away. Destiny is a healthy mix of both, so I'm also excited to see if I can bring him in and play it with him too. I mentioned earlier how much I enjoyed the streaming service because I was able to send him a link to watch me play.

But the free roam, as it is in the alpha-Version right now, feels very empty. There is no real Goal in exploring the world besides the beautiful scenery.
I usually don't like collectables, but that could be one thing to give exploring another purpose.
Maybe in the full game, we are able to collect more grimoire cards by visiting different places.

Horrible thing about this game, is that TLOU is going to be the only thing aside BF4 to tie me over the summer until september.

The problem with that, is that the rewards you get for exploring are not really interesting at all. You might think it's reward enough to see a nice view, as I believe you said early in the thread. But I doubt most people think that. There needs to be actual interesting, useful and varied things to find by exploring, otherwise the incentive for doing so gets lost quickly. So far the only thing you get are chests. Chests that give you the exact same kind of thing everytime, 80-130 glimmer, and once in a while you get an item. That's a pretty profound lack of variety imo.

The world needs to be littered with things the player can interact with that sheds light on the golden age and the world we're in. I want to find audio/video logs when I enter an old building that explains what that place was, what they were doing there or what was happening around the time the recording got made. I want to find things that will iniate a quest where I have to go and unlock an old sealed of area that will unlock a new part of old russia that is completely optional and not part of the campaign. I want to be able to find useful material in a toolbox that I might find inside one of the crashed airplanes. Stuff like this is what I want. Because it's not gonna be fun to explore an abandoned moonbase if it's litterally empty save for an out of place chest with a bit of glimmer and perhaps an random item that I will most likely have a much better version of.

I disagree! That's like saying Half-Life 2's "Highway 17" feels empty. There's a lot of story to discover in the environment. Plus it has day/night cycles, other players, enemy AI patrolling around, birds like animals, snow falling and wind blowing.

This. This right here is why this game impressed me so much. I played the free roam for roughly 6 hours. I was convinced I had see the entire map. I had even used my rocket sled to blow past ?? enemies to see what was beyond them, and I didn't see this.

I was literally amazed by the size of the Old Russia map. I just hope that the other 4-5 planets meet, or exceed this benchmark.

EDIT: I just now realize this may have been added after the official close of the Alpha. Was it? Or was this in the vanilla Alpha?

I never saw that dude, maybe theyll add more stuff to it just so we get pumped up for it. Game was OP.

That and enemy respawn time are my only gripes so far. I really wish there was more "stuff" in explore mode. More nooks, hidden areas, loot, collectibles etc. I'm sure there will be in the retail version i'm sure.

I also really wish enemy respawn time was increased. If you're hanging out in an area trying to explore all you can, you'll end up facing the same guys over and over and over. Gets old quick.
