England may have lost, but I don't think they played badly and there are a lot of positives they can take forwards for the next major tournaments. Now what they need is to smash through the qualifying campaigns and get their seeding back to ensure they don't get such a tough group again.

The framework for a pacy and attacking team is there, but we need to drop Gerrard from the squad and make Rooney the captain. Also we need better full backs. Shaw needs to be blooded against Costa Rica, and we need to hope that Kyle Walker doesn't get injured again because Johnson is absolute shit defensively. Walker isn't great but in the absence of anyone better he will have to do.

This is my favorite gif of the World Cup so far. I think the only way it could be topped would be some native Americans cheering when the US is defeated.

The US has a player who is half Native American on their roster, Chris Wondolowski (on his mother's side, obviously)....

Suarez just killed England, nobody can ignore his status as world star after this. Hope he leves for Real next season

Not many English fans really shocked by this. Very few people expected them to get out of the groups.

What is painful was there was a ray of light in the Italian match with some good interchanging from the younger players but yet again, an England manager breaks that up because of their pandering to the big name players.

Dump Rooney & Gerrard and we may start to get a team that people can believe in again.

England World Cup Hype cycle 2014

England qualify well, We'll win -> England get shitty group, we're going out straight away -> No one thinks England will win -> Low expectations mean England will win -> England loses, England will still win -> England loses again, WORST TEAM EVER

England out. Time to focus on non football until the league starts up again.

Grats Uruguay GAF. Deserved. I am oddly happy for Suarez.

Good luck! Hope you go through!

Too much improvisation for England, and errors in both defense and attack. Many missed opportunities for Uruguay too, but in the end they have a stellar couple in front, definitely among the best of the entire world cup. Nice match but too many errors.

so now england and spain (no.1 and 2 football leagues of this world) is gone

germany and italy next?
Nah.

2 reasons:

1. Compared to England Germany actually has quite a lot of German players in the top clubs. Also, calling England "No. 2" football league on this world doesn't exactly mirror their success in the Champions League. Spain/Germany tied for first place, England/Italy tied for 3rd place

2. Compared to Spain in this tournament Germany actually has a working team unlike Spain, German team worked together almost flawlessly against Portugal. Spains "offence" and "defence" didn't work together for shit (hesitant to even call that swiss cheese a defence and that dull blade an offence), with the result that nothing in Spain's play worked at all.

Please don't compare these travesties of a team to the German National Team, this is borderline insulting.

we should have scored one of those 3 chances during the first 7 minutes of the second half, that's for sure

cavani looking at you

Italy beating both Costa Rica and Uruguay isn't that impossible right?

Right? :(

Its impossible in that, if Italy win tomorrow, they will rest some players, especially the older guys like Pirlo and wont give a shit

Italy is the last country that will be doing England any favors

England have been our rivals for a thousand years, we Scots love watching them lose, they love watching us Scots lose. The Scotsman in the crowd was a representation of how much we Scots at home are loving England's inevitable early exit from the World Cup.

Take it away my brother.

Ironically the majority of English support the scots on the odd occasion they qualify for a tournament (except when they play the England team of course). Read into that what you may :/

The thing with us this time around is that we were never in with a serious chance of winning the tournament anyway, so it hurts a lot less than, say, 2006.
