He really is a toad.

A lovely toad.

Was hoping for a Brazil vs NED match but Brazil vs Chile will probably be just as entertaining.

Good luck to Mexico though, hope you guys can pull it off and get past Netherlands.

Nice job Mexico! I knew they would go through.

Now for tomorrows games. Oh boy. Really hoping for a mircale that puts Japan through. Italy also hopefully makes it.

Against the "born to 2nd place"? Come on

Second place means winning the round of 16 a lot. Try to even become vice world champions. Many nations dream of playing a final I reckon.

Since when is the Dutch team one of the "clear favorites"? Everyone thought they wouldn't even get to the elimination rounds, they are clearly the underdog this time.

You'd be locked away if you would predict 9 points and 10 goals in this group. I expected us to crash with maybe 2 draws.

Who the fuck can even predict anything this WC. I certainly didn't thought we would steamroller our group. Mexico is going to be tough for us, especially in that heat. But I have faith in based Louis.

Mexico played a great game and pressed relentlessly against a tepid Croatian team.

ESPN needs to get Francisco Palomo and Alejandro Moreno to call way more soccer games. I love listening to those guys so much.

Seems Modbot would prefer the goalie discussion is kept in here.

The OP was right to question their skills btw, when it comes to being a soccer goalie:

http://www.wrayherbert.com/blog/soccer-goalies-and-the-default-heuristic

Behavioral economist Ofer Azar ran an intriguing study of premier soccer goalies, which I describe in On Second Thought‘s final chapter, on the default heuristic. Azar, a lecturer at Ben-Gurion University in Israel, studied penalty kicks. A penalty kick is awarded after a foul, and is often used as a tie-breaker in championship games. A designated player stands 36 feet from the goal, which measures 24 feet side to side. Only the opposing goalie stands between the kicker and the goal, so it’s a high probability shot. In fact, with the typical penalty kick flying at more than 60 miles per hour, the goalie has only a fraction of a second to respond.
Facing such a physical challenge, professional goalies must decide before the actual kick what they will do: go right, go left, or stay put. So Azar decided to study what they actually do—and what they should do to be successful. He collected data on more than 300 of the top goaltenders in the world in action, and found a clear pattern: Goalies had the best chance of stopping a penalty shot if they just stayed put, smack in the center of the net. That’s the natural default position, and if they did this—that is, moved neither left not right–they were able to stop the opponent’s shot 33.3 percent of the time. That’s not great, but it’s a lot better than the other odds: Goalies who made a guess and jumped left stopped only 14.2 percent of the shots, and goalies who dove right stopped a dismal 12.6 percent. That’s one in eight, which means seven of every eight penalty shots flew past for a score. That can’t feel good. - See more at: http://www.wrayherbert.com/blog/soccer-goalies-and-the-default-heuristic#sthash.S3lRpVOp.dpuf

Mexico absolutely deserve this win but I'll still be rooting for Netherlands to destroy you guys, nothing personal!
It's alright, even the mexican media is getting rid of that "here's hoping we face the easier opponent!" bullshit mentality that was present years before.

Mexico is gonna face one of the best teams in the tournament and you know what? They might even make it, at least they believe it.

The Dutch are nothing, vamos Mexico!
Those european teams won't know what hit em!
