The mexican confidence is so cute and based on absolutely nothing. Brazil was mediocre, cameroon as bad as iran and croatia is just a former shadow of itself.

Mexico is still playing a lot better than they were.

In qualifiers in 2013:

Mexico - Jamaica 0-0
Honduras - Mexico 2-2
Mexico - USA 0-0
Panama - Mexico 0-0
Mexico - Costa Rica 0-0
Mexico - Honduras 1-2
USA - Mexico 2-0
Mexico - Panama 2-1
Costa Rica - Mexico 2-1

Playoffs:
Mexico - New Zealand 5-1
New Zealand - Mexico 2-4

Really? You're bringing up games against Panama, New Zealand and Jamaica?

Really now?

Netherlands - Hungary 8-1 . bestest team ever

I'm not saying they can't win, but I dont understand where the confidence is coming from. It's not like they have beaten Germany, France or Brazil.

Their confidence is coming from a solid defense, crowd support and a huge win in their last game.

Holland should respect Mexico, just like Brazil should repect Chile.

and the leapt of quality from pre-WC friendlies to yesterday game is notable too.

Vamos Costa Rica!!!

It's relevant, is it not? Mexico played like shit in the qualifiers and barely made it in. They seem to be playing much better now.

I'm not saying I'd favor Mexico over Netherlands, but Mexico is playing a lot more confidently now and are playing much more cohesively. They were completely out of sync in the qualifiers. Just a disaster.

this is a conflicting a match,
I like Uruguay but Italy has done a good job of defeating Germany in recent history.

If Italy goes through, they are our best hope to prevent a German championship win

Yeah, but won't the winner go against Colombia? I want whatever team that can stop them to go through (life of a neutral party)

Not sure how anyone can say Chile is mediocre though.

it's not, but you are dismissing Mexico's matches pretty easily there. I'd say Neymar is now of the top 3 players of the tournament, actually to me he has been the best, Robben has looked great too but in bursts, Neymar has been basically him
+10 in Brazil and Mexico managed to control him most of the match.

Mexico has also shown great mental strength, having to deal with wrongly denied goals in the first match and a clear penalty not given yesterday.

I wonder if BBC 5 Live keeps using Assassins Creed music in their World Cup coverage as a hint that Fifa are templars, or that the England team need assassinating.

I find disgusting how the local media is blaming the ref for our loss yesterday, hell even our players are falling for it.

smh

Yeah. Chile really gave Holland a hard time there. You guys need to do something about defensive "height" tho. Chile is in constant threat through the air because defenders are "short" by football standards.

You said Brazil was mediocre, dude. By that measure we might as well call Germany, France, Argentina all mediocre too.

Wait, are people saying Brazil wasn't mediocre? for real? Have you seen them play?

I can feel the heat of the mexico- dutch match next sunday. I have confidence in Robben en Van Persie which are in top-form with Robben being the best of the tournament. And if all fail we still have a great bench with Depay etc. Can't wait! Sunday is so far away

Argentina has been mediocre and should thank Messi for their 6 points. France has a great team but they are yet to face a good opponent and we all saw that even Germany is vulnerable.

I wouldn't call them mediocre, i'd say they have been average maybe and yet they still managed to win 3-1 and 4-1, plus a tie vs Mexico which they could've won if it wasn't for Ochoa.

Also Neymar is so far the player of the tournament for me.

C'mon Uruguay!!!!!!! Germany needs dat Italian Kryptonite out of the way to have a chance in the KO rounds!

And oh, that CRC v ENG game is purely academic at this point. Rooting for CRC to see whether they can complete the destruction of ENG.

Neymar scored four goals, one of which was a pen.

Robben scored three goals and assisted once.

I'd say it's about even.

It's finally the time for the stronger Italian player to debut in this World Cup!

Please don't do something stupid, lol.

tone it down a little? What the hell?

i'm off to the football thread, you guys can't take anything geez

Well, you were implying mexican fans should be basically saying good bye to the tournament by saying we had no reason to be confident. I don't see anyone here saying Mexico has the win in the bag, all we were saying is we have a shot, we have played as a team and much better than expected and we have a shot on sunday to make history.
