Because Suarez was not playing for Liverpool the moment it happened, so they are not responsible for this action of his. Would be nice if they could sue him or something like that so they can get compensation for the damage he's causing Liverpool right now.

i think it's a pretty reasonable ban, maybe a bit harsh. ultimately it's a lot of games, and combining the official matches and 4 month term a significant escalation on the last one. it's with the understanding that this is his last chance and he can't do it again without his career basically being finished. perhaps harsh on liverpool given that it was done on international duty, but you need to hit both sides of the game to really send the message and for liverpool that's the risk you take by having suarez on your team.

The game was kind of important. Italy needed to win. "Pounding on his face," in any sport, even in retaliation, is always going to result in an ejection, and more likely for those that retaliated than the initial perpetrator.
Like in the recent NBA playoffs, Lebron and co. might have reacted some kind of way to Lance Stephenson blowing on Lebron, smacking Mario (I think it was him) in the face on a 3, etc. if it were the regular season, but there's no way in hell they'd do it in the playoffs. Udonis is gonna fuck him up when the regular season starts again, though.

Feel bad for Liverpool (just a bit) as they are being punished for something they had no control or indeed direct involvement in, but I agree with the sentiment of the ban none the less. I just hope Suarez takes the time out to get some serious help, cause I sure as hell don't want to see him doing this shit again.

Anyways: Seems like a very lenient punishment to me. I don't think you need to bite people more than 3 times to get a perma-ban from professional football. 2 should do the trick just fine.
