Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

Shadowrun style teleports you say??

We haven't had official confirmation of how Blink will work yet, but one thing I'll say is after playing the Destiny Alpha I got a MASSIVE Shadowrun vide off of it, and it's probably why I enjoyed it so much, so I'm hoping... nay, praying, that Blink works in the same way.

What are the odds we can get some Halo crossover stuff in Destiny? Maybe Master Chief's Armor, or a Ghost, or the Battle Rifle ? I know it's unlikely due to Sony's deal but it's nice to dream

Check this vid, start at 5:40 and watch till 5:47, you'll see what looks like a hunter (maybe classes can get eachothers jump abilities?) blink multiple times. It doesn't seem to be spammable but it doesn't seem to have much of a cooldown either.

Nice! Thanks. That looks like fun. More chain-able than I expected it to be. Will be interesting to see how mad it makes people in PvP.

I could of sworn the "blink" we all know was specifically for hunter. I wonder if the Warlock blink is different than the one we are seeing in videos of the Hunter.

Warlock's blink won't have a cooldown. It replaces your glide so if it had a cooldown, you'd be screwed if you needed to double jump multiple times in rapid succession like in the footage we've seen of the raid, where there's a platforming section with platforms that disappear as your party touches them.

Also it wasn't unlockable in the alpha, regardless of how much exp you got.

Doesn't the Warlock blink bind to L1? Are we sure it won't have a cool down I can see people spamming it in PvP getting annoying if not

I'm guessing different jump abilities are unlocked in subclasses or what might be a possibility is that classes can learn eachothers jump abilities (this would be best if you want total balance in pvp).

But what we have seen in the Alpha is that hunters third jump ability is actually a triple jump and not blink.

Is this game anything like an open world Halo? If you watch the original gameplay videos of halo, they made it seem like a much bigger and diverse world then what was eventually released. I always wanted Bungie to make Halo more like that video from 2000.

I don't think that it was described as being able to use the jump abilities of other classes, just that each subclass for a character would have a different jump upgrade tied to it.

But what we have seen in the Alpha is that hunters third jump ability is actually a triple jump and not blink.
You're correct, but we're talking about Warlocks here, not Hunters. Hunters have the triple-jump, Warlocks get Blink.

Warlock class is best class, confirmed.

Look at the post i am replying to and read my post which you just quoted (you are basically parroting me lol), also take a look at that video i posted earlier (start at 5:40 and watch until 5:47) which shows a hunter blinking, meaning we don't know the entire picture atm.

You're right, I didn't read properly (was transitioning from home to work and missed the video.)

All I can say, is that maybe each class has some sort of variant of a teleportation move OR it could possibly be tied to the Warlock buff class? I guess we'll see in the coming months :)

For PS4? Impossible, since Microsoft own all rights to the Halo franchise. For Xbox One/360? Probably very likely.

For the other hunter subclass I'm sure it gets blink. Which is what I am referring to, sorry if I was not clear.

Yeah :), we can only speculate atm. I'm thinking that either subclasses unlock new jumping abilities or that you can pick the jumping ability from another class.

Curious to see which one it turns out to be, all i know is that i want to blink around like the hunter in that video.

Anyone have detailed info on what seemed to be fire/blue?/purple? properties on some guns? The blue one seemed to do more damage to shields. Anything beyond a damage buff?

Fire (Bungie calls it solar)
Void
Arc

There are different colors of shields (I've seen blue and red), and I assume each one corresponds to the elements. However, I don't know if you should use fire against red shields, or if that means that the shield resists fire (same with the other colors).

Normally I wouldn't post links to the Destiny forum on Bungie.net, since it's the filthiest hive of scum and villainy on the known Internet, but this thread caught my eye: Potentially there are 8 more Destiny Cards to be released, if some things that have been seen in some of the page source code on the website are to be believed.

As we know 17 codes have hit the net so far (if you haven't redeemed the initial 17 yet, they're all in the link's OP and are multiple-use so go redeem them all for free content on game launch) and people are suspecting that, since no new cards were released at E3, that Bungie is holding off on releasing the remaining cards until Bungie Day (July 7th.)

Cool, thanks. I couldn't remember what each one was called. Yeah, I guess we'll have to play around more with the beta to determine the buff/resists. It would be cool if they also worked kind of like ME3 ammo, where you could shoot an enemy with an ammo type to prime, then detonate with another ability.

Officially with those names? None whatsoever. There could potentially be similar stuff that parodies Halo stuff but Microsoft owns everything Halo now

A thank you. Got all of them redeemed. Wonder what they are?

Of course we can only speculate, but I'm hedging my bets on the usual types of unlockables like weapons/armour pieces/armour shaders/Shrikes/Spaceships. Pretty much just minor variations of stuff we've seen already.

I think it's possible that MS could pay for a bit of fan service skins or something for the Xbone version of the game, too. Doesn't seem too outlandish.

I don't think Bungie would be in such a rush to dilute their new property. At least not before they are established as a completely separate entity with a dominant enough lore that it couldn't possibly be confused with anything Halo. And even then, that kind of brand confusion I imagine would be something that they would not encourage.

Look at what's happening with Diablo 3 UE Edition, and the fact that there's special items from Journey and Uncharted included for PlayStation players. I don't think that Diablo has suffered any brand confusion or dilution because of it. Hell, there's even a special dungeon for PlayStation users that is filled with enemies from The Last Of Us.

I can definitely see Phil Spencer making a deal with Bungie, to get some Xbox-specific Halo pieces into Destiny. What I can imagine seeing:

- Master Chief's helmet is too iconic, but maybe an ODST helmet?
- A Halo Assault Rifle skin for the Full-Auto Rifle?
- A Halo Battle Rifle skin for the Scout Rifles?

Hell, in fact almost any of the Halo weapons (at least the human ones) could work as skins for Destiny weapons.

Why isn't this game out yet? Why?

I want to believe that the Steam sale can hold me over... but I know I'm wrong...

The difference with Destiny right now though is that there are more people making comparisons to Halo than not at this stage. And they are going to have a prolonged period of those comparisons because of the design similarities. Diablo isn't going to have any brand confusion with content from TLOU, but people will wonder if Destiny and Halo share the same universe.
Not saying that it could never happen, just that it's highly unlikely during the early stages of the game.

While I have heard the Halo comparison slung around a little, it's been more overshadowed by the Borderlands comparison. I guess we'll see after the beta whether there'll be an announcement from Bungie or Microsoft about Xbox-exclusive content.

I thought it might be helpful for people who didn’t play the alpha if we could give some general gameplay tips. Especially for people who are coming from a FPS background and may not be familiar with some of Destiny’s gameplay mechanics. Maybe the better ones could be organised and included in Dax’s Beta OT. (Don’t want to tread on toes here though! Ha.)
Thanks for this. ^_^

Explore mode
Just to mention, some people didn’t realise that explore mode has no end objective. It is designed to allow the player to keep playing in the area endlessly.

There are radio beacons placed around the destination that will give you short mission, these will never run out, after a while the beacon will become active again with another short mission for you to take. The idea is that these missions give you small rewards to help you level up for the missions / strikes and also take you off into the world, helping you find new areas to explore.
This and the technologies that exist within the game really make it baffling as to why there's no mapping.

Yep, I think the game design encourages it, especially with a shared loot vault. At least give them all a try. You may find you like them all for different reasons or just to change things up.
Shared loot vault? Awesome!

We need more titans out there people! Everyone wants to be warlocks and hunters it seems. We need balance!
I will be all.

But Hunter first

I could see Blink becoming a problem in pvp.
WoW Mage! <3

I would hate that. Destiny is it's own universe. I don't want anything to spoil that suspension of disbelief. It would ruin the fel of the game, make it feel like it is a game.

My opinion, but I wouldn't like a map. The premise is that you are taking the first steps into a hostile solar system, everything of the past has been destroyed and forgotten. For me it's about exploration and wonder.

I preordered Destiny over PSN. Do i get an extra Betakey or is it enough that the Beta appears in my libary now?
From what we know it should just download into your library for you. I'd expect to get details in this weeks or next weeks updates.

To clarify, I don't want a map available from the start but I would love it if you had (as a part of GHOST perhaps) a map automatically discover as you explored the world. So like MMOs often work, but without the huge discovery boundaries and with an actual scientific justification within the game universe.

I like the way that the more time you spend in the game, the more you learn the map in your head. After the Alpha I knew my way around old Russia no problem. I like that you have to spend the time getting familiar with the area by being out in it.

It makes it much cooler when you walk through a section for the fifth time and THEN you see the little tunnel leading off that takes you into a Hive infested pit. That feeling of 'I thought I knew this area", makes it special.

There are missions to go to certain points and map the area in explore mode. Would be sweet of you could use those to actually map the wild for yourself and mark things that you think are important like certain level event spawns, or locations of recources.

Sure, but that's only a valid excuse for a few hours. After one trip around the open-worldy area, this wonder gives way to confusion if you can't keep track of the tunnels connecting more open spaces.
Not to mention, the mission selection menu is already a map and then, in Old Russia, you run into an even more detailed map in one of its rusted warehouses. A self-completing map would be an acceptable compromise, even if that's already a pretty big stretch.

I think what they are going to do in the game, based in previews, is mix those spawns up, have things happen more dynamically than in the Alpha.

I'd prefer it to be about remembering where you went for that gun you got when you want to show your friend how to get it, you go back with them and everything is familiar but you don't have an 'x marks the spot' to find it again, you have to explore a little again.

There will be walkthroughs and strategy guides with maps I would imagine, but I'd prefer not to have them in game.

I still need to take revenge of those Overpowered Knights in those tunnels

They need to be taught a lesson!

I prefer the feeling of having to know my way around to having the convenience of pulling up a map every five minutes. It's like you master the area, like you master popping headshots. It's another skill to the game in some ways.

Agreed. Having to actually learn the map without any help was one of the many reasons I loved Dark Souls, and I'm glad Bungie is following the same approach, as it makes the exploration much more rewarding.

It was pretty cool indeed when all we've had to play with was the Old Russia. But the full game will hopefully have many, many more zones like that. Wouldn't take too long for the lack of map to simply turn into 'play with a fan-made map open on second screen device' and that just sounds like a pain in the ass to be honest.

It's not like the map would have to list every single cave and possible loot chest/public event locations. There's plenty to memorize even if you could pull up a simple map.

But you do get help here, the game shows you a simplified map with seemingly every memorable location marked quite clearly on it.
Also, Destiny's empty open spaces aren't really comparable to D. Souls' mazes. A huge blob representing Forgotten Shore wouldn't be a solution to a level design puzzle.
