Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

Nope, just creeped how quickly the fucking knives come out if you say anything wrong about Destiny, on Gaf! Jesus, calm the fuck down people.

No, it wasn't that at all. It was the shock at how people could like something that got the thread riled up. Feel free to criticize, but jesus.

He/she doesn't have to read the thread if it bothers him/her so much for whatever reason. Let people enjoy what they like. Coming in the thread to say that it bothers you that people are excited for a game isn't at all productive, and, frankly, annoying.

Ehh, I don't know. Speaking emotions is a weird thing, and people say all sorts of things. In the end, it's just a post.

I thought you gave up?

People aren't bothered by you criticizing Destiny. They're reacting to you saying you're bothered by their excitement, with an implication that people shouldn't be excited because it isn't a good game.

Hell, I agree in ways that the bosses in Destiny can be a bit bullet-spongey.

Sandy has legitimate concerns that can be harmlessly be discussed. Picking the brains of people who played the alpha is a part of Bungie's feedback process, and turning them away for "trolling" (which it hardly is) bogs down this thread's critical thinking ability.

Again, the reason I left Bungie's forums is because everybody was circle-jerking Destiny and it was impossible to look at the game under a magnifying glass. I'm as excited as the next person, but I don't want to feel like I need permission to have any other impression of the game. If that's what awaits me in the other community locations then consider me out as well.

Found another easter egg on the other side of the Wall, guys;

Seriously though, can we please stop fighting? If you don't like the game, that's fine and you are entitled to your opinion, but please don't come into a thread just to shit on the community that likes it.
That said, some of the hostility in reaction to it is also uncalled for.

Make ( SPACE MAGIC ) love, not war.

NEVER fuck with the Destiny hype in a hype thread! Got it.

How are they going to mitigate that, apart from using specific strategy, I don't remember any hints given etc where to shoot the boss, I just remember parts flying off of it.

The Bungie forums are indeed a terrible place to get any sort of actual discussion. The subreddit is pretty good about invoking some discussion that isn't just mindless hype (although there's plenty of that there too).

Sigh...

How are they going to mitigate that, apart from using specific strategy, I don't remember any hints given etc where to shoot the boss, I just remember parts flying off of it.

I think the idea is you learn the various bosses through encountering them in various strikes, in the open world in public events, etc. and you build up your strats that way. Then you put it all together and mix/match as needed based on the obstacles ahead of you.

They probably won't lol. Personally, I like how you gotta figure it out on your own. When my fireteam saw the boss stagger after his armor was blown off, it seemed like a traditional videogame hint that something's wrong with this boss, and it's time to hit it's weak point for massive damage. Joke intended.

Why do you need a hint on how to take down a boss? What happened to video games letting the user figure out the best strategy? Honestly, I'm looking at your recent posts and trying to understand what exactly do you want?

Being freaked out by other's excitement, bothered by this and that. It's just a game, if the end product doesn't meet whatever your expectations are, don't buy/play. Also, your in a thread titled "Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread". Even after reading the thread title, you are still freaked out by the excitement lol. Back away from your CPU and take a deep breath and realize it's not that serious.

Sandy has legitimate concerns that can be harmlessly be discussed....

Why are people so desperately trying to push Destiny meems? Why does all the hype around this feel shallow and manufactured?

Just this loud inaudible chorus, foaming at the mouth, just going crazy for this game, then a couple of weeks after release, gone, everything gone, just like Titanfall, just like Brink, just like a lot of shit passing these halls.

I just can't shake this feeling that Destiny was a bad fucking idea, and to see a bunch of people getting exited over it just freaks me right the hell out. Same feeling I had about Brink I've got now.

It really bothers me because Bungie fucking owns, this game just feels *wrong*

Legitimate concerns that can be harmlessly discussed? Not when he's describing the fanbase like that it can't.

Sandy has mentioned his gripes with the game but amongst those posts are statements with loaded vocabulary that speaks negatively about those who enjoy the game. Of course people are going to be hostile when they read that. There are plenty of people who've criticized the game throughout this thread and in the Alpha Impressions thread before this. They just didn't insult (intentional or not) the people who enjoyed it. Hell we had a list of critiques and changes we'd like to see as well as a cordial debate about ADS earlier on in this very thread. Nobody expects an echo chamber of opinion but at the same time nobody wants to be accused of being shills. And that's exactly what is being implied when someone tells them that their being excited "feels manufactured."

I'm fully behind taking bosses down after some wipes because you didn't figure out tells etc, that's an awesome, Monster Hunter type vibe. Just asking about hints because focus groups will probably end up indicating that.

In my defense I think you and some other posters here are working very hard to blow this out of proportion, who's "they", I was talking about general vibes about manufactured hype all across the internet, not this thread, how did you come to that conclusion? I want to talk about this game and how it makes me feel, not about accusations and other bullshit, seriously stop this shit right now.

I hope we get to see really huge weapons with massive, 5 minute cooldowns, I think that could help with the boss HP issue.

What are you.

Going off the idea that you aren't trolling, I found that the damage indicators telling you how much damage you were doing helped a lot. The giant glowing brain and accompanying sound effects helped too.

I don't disagree with you here and I didn't really mean to support such statements, but I also didn't find it productive to draw attention to them. We're going to have another 2 pages where people spend more time correcting others and less time discussing the actual game. Doesn't make for an interesting thread.

There are special weapons which deal a bunch of damage. Not on a cool down but the ammo for them is pretty rare, so you have to use it sparingly.

Yea the purple ammo right? I had like an LMG which would tear shit up, was good for elites but the ammo drops were VERY sparse, was there a way to actually buy special ammo at the home base?

Yep -- you can buy consumable packs for ammo that you can activate from your inventory at any time. From what I remember the special ammo consumable cost a ton of Glimmer, but you can certainly see situations where it comes in handy.

NEVER I don't remember any hints given etc where to shoot the boss, I just remember parts flying off of it.

When you shoot anywhere on the boss it does minimal damage except when you shoot one of the legs it does a crit showing the damage in yellow as if you got a headshot on a normal mob. That is a pretty big clue you should be shooting the legs.

Do that for awhile and it falls over and there is a big red blinking target opens up for you too shoot at. I don't know how they could have made it any more obvious how to beat it without using a lame voice over or dialog pop up.

There are a lot of things about the alpha I hope are fixed by retail the pacing of the boss battles definitely wasn't one of them.

Is anyone here going to get Destiny for PS3? I don't have enough money to buy a PS4 and all my friends are getting it for PS4/X1 :(

Are there any benefits to the next gen versions of the game other than better graphics?

I love you. I truly, truly do.

Yes especially against melting the elite mobs, I can't remember, but did it cost a very high amount of Glimmer for that Ammo? I think I remember not buying any because of the price, kind of hope there won't be a real money for Glimmer type deal going on, that would be gross.

Personally I thought the orange spots on the legs of the walker were a good enough clue to aim for them. Was a clue confirmed when seeing yellow numbers instead of white.

Ditto for the purple circle on the other boss.

If the other bosses follow the pattern of those two, weak points will be obvious.

I still remember the price of the Heavy ammo, 950 glimmers. I think I only bought 1 pack the whole time during alpha. But, the primary and special ammo were pretty cheap and crits with a sniper rifle on the Spider tank made it go down pretty fast, so I stayed stocked up with those.

They've already said there won't be.

OK that's pretty sweet.

From what I understand, Bungie is very anti pay to win. I don't think that will be an issue. Bungie has also implied that the changes between Alpha and Beta will be pretty huge. The audio is getting an overhaul at least, or they were only using filler in the Alpha, and they were very dedicated in making sure they got an negative feedback at E3.

I'm not trying to blow anything out of proportion. I'm explaining, in very clear terms, why people took offense to your approach. "They" as I also clearly indicated, refers to others who have stated that they didn't like the game when they played it, for whatever reason.

Plenty of people are replying to your qualms already, but if you'd like another reply about them, here you are.

You found it the encounter with the Tank boring: Well.. there's really not much to say to that. If that's how you feel, that's how you feel. I didn't find it boring at all and actually liked using a strat that my fireteam developed that involved trading aggro back and forth while whittling away at it's legs from both sides. It resulted in 4 legs being stripped one right after another which gave us almost constant access to the "brain" weakspot.

You didn't see any clear clues as to where to attack the Tank: The clue was the yellow crit damage when you shot the armored legs. I feel like, for the level of difficulty that Bungie seems to be aiming for (they've said they feel even Legend is too easy) that such a clue is more than enough. It's direct damage feedback to the player that should clue them in rather quickly. In a MP game such as this, the various strategies on how to overcome bosses are going to be shared quickly and liberally. Having clues/tips/signs any more obvious than what they have now would eliminate learning curve almost entirely.

Big Powerful Weapon with 5 Minute Cooldown: Well there's the Heavy Weapons, whose ammo is harder to come by but more inline with what you're suggesting would be the actual Special Power that Guardians have. It's CD is attached to a meter that grows faster through kills or when a player picks up Orbs of Light that are left behind when a teammate kills and enemy with their own Special. Without any kills, Orbs of Light, or Gear that reduces Cooldown, the Special meter fills up on it's own in around 5 minutes or so. That figure was discovered in one of the Datto Does Destiny Youtube vids. I'd link it but I don't have the specific video handy atm.

Have they mentioned anything about cosmetic items for real money, hoverbikes, armor dyes, anything like that? Just curious.

Void, Arc and... Sol or something? Their exact implementation is unknown still.

Would be cool if they had something like that, I remember kind of enjoying that mechanic in Borderlands, also created a shitload of variety in the weapons.

So here's another one, are the weapons all pre-determined, or is it an RNG type deal?
