The idea of going out of your way to hire someone who isn't white always seems really weird to me.
People struggle with it all the time because it sounds pretty close to discrimination (and technically is, hence 'reverse racism'). _this intuitive line of thinking typically fails to recognise institutional or social level issues that mean that candidates do not necessarily all begin from a position of equality (not just regarding talent and effort etc)
It took me a long time to puzzle out too.
