Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

Something I'm not looking forward to. I'm pursuing a career in entertainment, and LA is the best place to be.

Plus besada has kindly let me stay over at his place for the night while I'm driving across Texas. :)

I used to live in SoCal, lots to do there, but I don't like the traffic. I'm a bit further north of LA now, it's quieter here but super hot.

what's so bad about going to a wedding? booze, bridesmaids and breakdancing b
i don't drink you got me on the bridesmaids and dancing is a nightmare for someone with social phobia and sitting there watching a girl walk down an aisle just to see her kiss someone is not fun it just sucks. When i get married i'm going to do everyone a favor and just go to a courthouse and get it over with

I'm moving there with some money now and more coming in the future to help me live out there until I can get a couple of part-time jobs going/network enough to get a good full-time job.

One of the first things I'll do is try In-N-Out!

Oh man... you couldn't pay me (ok, you could) to live in SoCal! I have family out there and it's just smog, brown, cars and traffic anywhere other than beach front! However, anywhere north of Santa Barbara and it can start to get really gorgeous in the right areas.

Yeah, I figured it was similar to Halo. I didn't notice the elevation variation. I thought that the direction shown on radar was either close by or far, but not whether they were above or below you. I'll have to pay more attention in the beta. Thx.

Just snapped this from one of my own clips

Looks like the bars get brighter the higher the elevation. There appears to be an enemy below me and several below or on my level (I'm descending from a double jump too, so you get a general idea of the height required to change the radar reading). My teammate and objective waypoint are shown up top.

Another thing I'm noticing is that it seems to be very short; looks to be 15 meters.

Demon's Souls (a bit LTTP)

Great game, go under 50% equip rate and roll everywhere!

Found a few spare bucks and picked up Borderlands 2(this one is really scratching my destiny itch) and payday 2 thanks to the steam summer sale and got enough bing rewards credits to get a month gold and get max: the curse of brotherhood on GwG

BL2 will definitely scratch the itch! I still need to play the Tiny Tina DLC.

What part of LA are you going to be living in? You have to go here: http://www.portosbakery.com/ It's so good!

I was in Morro Bay last weekend. I ate some good fish and chips there. And the weather was great.

I can't imagine moving coast to coast more than once. Eesh.

haha yeah, it wasn't great

In-N-Out is overrated.

Then again, I've been around it for 23 years.

it's just a fast food burger, i don't even know why people talk about it

Hm, I disagree.

I don't think the radar shows elevation for your enemies - it's just position. The brighter the red segment, the closer the enemy is to you.

Your teammates are represented as dots that have little arrows indicating elevation.

Servers will be live well before the retail game is released. Reviewers gotta review and whatnot.

Could be done a couple of different ways, though. Like review events at a dev-hosted location on private servers, for example. Reviewers reviewing isn't necessarily a guarantee that servers will be live before launch.

Or has Bungie confirmed that they'll be live in advance, rather than doing a typical 12AM PDT worldwide launch?

Yea looking over more footage, this is correct, but there still ends up being a relative overlap. If an enemy is on the same plane of the player but further away, the red bar will be weak. If the enemy is below the player, the red bar could also be weak, so elevation can be gauged somewhat that way. It does indeed glow brighter the closer the enemy is to the player. Its brightest will be when the enemy is right beside the player. The team arrows look really faint in my footage but they're definitely there as well.

So as a general guide, enemies = relative and allies = actual.

I'm generally just looking for areas in LA that are relatively safe with apartments ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 rent. Gonna dwindle my list down to a few then when I get to LA look at the final apartments before making my decision.

Are apartments just really that expensive there or are you looking for something way nice? :O I've got a 3 bedroom apartment with a huge kitchen and living room for 600 that I split with a friend. :o

And hm... I love Child of Light and Transistor, but I think Transistor is a bit better, and only because Child of Light's dialog is hit or miss. I love poetry probably a lot more than a lot of people, but sometimes Child of Light's rhyme is so forced it hurts. I haven't played Valiant Hearts though.

I'm working through Transistor and Child of Light. Both are good and I appreciate them for what they are but they don't have their hooks in me.
Valiant Hearts sucked me in immediately and I'm getting close to finishing it.
Can't go wrong with whichever you pick first though...

I only own Transistor out of those 3. It's not a very long game; NG is about 7-10 hours. I really love it, it's my GOTY so far. Destiny will probably take that spot, though. I heard Child of Light is around 15 hours? I'd save Valiant Hearts for last. I heard the story is good and is about WW1, so it might be a bit... somber? I'm not sure.

Thanks! I think I'll go Child of Light > Transistor > Valiant Hearts then, which is also incidentally the alphabetical order. ;-P

I'm not that educated on the subject but I think most games have the servers up and running well ahead of time.(I had Infamous 10 days early and it had the servers and first patch up already.)

I highly doubt Bungie would fly every reviewer in and host it themselves. Just seems like a logistical nightmare.

Living out in LA is expensive, yeah. Any place below $2,000 and I'll be saving money based on my projected costs.

I can't agree more strongly. And I say this while considering other options in the same bracket (so not comparing to different brackets like The Bowery, or Umami etc.). I honestly think a generic classic double from Wendy's to be more satisfying, or a burger from Fat burger.

Considering the general adulation they receive, one would expect so much more. And when cautiously stating this sentiment upon people suggesting going there, you'll inevitably be met with disbelief, and also the inevitable question "but have you tried ordering from their secret menu?"

InFamous didn't rely on servers to function the way Destiny will. In fact, outside of the Paper Trail stuff, I can't think of anything that InFamous used servers for in-game.

With Destiny's MMO-like nature, it wouldn't surprise if reviewers didn't get early access for reviews, and we'll end up with "Reviews In-Progress", like most MMOs end up having. I think Diablo 3 and SimCity had the same thing happen, but I may be misremembering.

I think reviewers will either go to a review event, something I'm fairly certain happens from time to time, or reviewers will just be hitting the game the same time as the rest of us and we'll see their impressions updated over time.

While nicely stated I couldn't disagree more. In-n-Out is amazing. Better than Fatburger and Wendys. Better than Five Guys. It's not a super high end burger but it is absolutely delicious. Double doubles all day! Need more protein? Four by Four!

I played all 3 in the Alpha, now that I know it gets blink I'm all for it. I got lots of Nova Bomb kills too in the Crucible.
It was certainly excellent for the close combat maps like Rusted Lands. I'm hoping for a lot more maps like that in the full release :)

Yeah, I loved both maps you know.

I'm now pretty confident retail will have a bunch more excellent designs.

I've been looking at Westside Rentals and have found plenty of apartments in the Santa Monica area that look great. I'll have to check them out first, of course.

That place looks fantastic! Generally looking for pretty save places.

Be careful with them. When I still lived in LA they were all over. Most of what they have is over priced and in bad shape. Try apartmentguyz if they operate out of LA

I look forward to blinking upward from unseen depths only to nova bomb unsuspecting enemies alongside all my Warlock brothers. Yeah, I've finally decided Warlock first 100%.

Where does the Hunter keep all his or her's Throwing knives? Does it space magically reappear?

Hehe... well you see...

Also, it's been a tough process... but... I think I might be a Titan come Destiny's release. I'm sorry. :c I like the sash. I like the fur. I like the Bubble Shield. :C

I have to make a new avatar now.
