Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Time for another opinion and this one makes me quite sad: despite loving Halo I'm starting to feel that this franchise is getting too big for me. The amount of books and lore is really bothering me... I just don't care anymore. Halo 4 made go to Halopedia after finishing it and since then I've been asking myself if I should follow this franchise or abandon it completely.

I've been a huge fan since 2001, buying every single game, limited edition controllers and I bought my two Xbox's so I could play Halo. I remember back then I used to love this game, counting the days until Halo 2 release. Oh man, I miss those days. But now? I just don't care, Halo MP is not even that big to me.


Long story short: I kinda hate what Halo has become.

I don't get the point of consoles anymore. They don't serve my any good except I'm forced to buy them to play 5-10 games on a platform that is less flexible and enjoyable.

Nintendo might be different, from the small time I had with a wii U it was fun with a group to play party games once in a while.
 
I can't fathom why people go into "console war" stuff or hate on what others use. I feel like pretty much all platforms offer something good. It seems really silly. The only limiting factor to me is money.

PC gaming is great.
Console gaming is great.
Handheld gaming is pretty good.
Mobile gaming has its merits as well.

They each have some decent exclusives which is great. I cant imagine why people will disparage others even if they have a differing opinion.

(The whole "PC Master Race" thing is really annoying and quite stupid)
 
Where's the outrage over Nintendo having exclusives? Microsoft has one well known third party exclusive compared to Nintendo not counting the known games. Where are the claims of moneyhatting on Nintendo's part?

I agree 100%. If I had the money I'd own everything. And yes I hate the PC master race stuff too(used seriously or ironically).

But no one has the money or the time, and I think that's the problem. You have to make a choice about what to spend that limited resource on, and for some people, the possibility they made the "wrong" decision leads them to lash out defensively.

It's stupid and a waste of people's time, especially as each platform has its strengths. I play PC for RTS and MOBAs, Xbox for shooters, et al. You shouldn't get upset if people are having different kinds of fun.

Acclaimed games I think are bad:

Half Life
Halo
Mario Kart (more boring than "bad") and most Mario stuff
Zelda
Gears of War
Any GTA after the first
Bioshock
RE1-5
Anything by Platinum Games
Heavy Rain
Any Assassin's Creed

Hated games I think are fantastic and the best in their respective franchise:

DmC
Resident Evil 6

"Others":

Deadly Premonition > Alan Wake
Tomb Raider 2013 > Uncharteds
Shadow Fall > Killzone 2

plenty others. Most of my tastes seem very "controversial" all the time

I feel the same way.

Overall though, I just find Platinum hugely disappointing. They're trying to recapture something that they no longer are.

Platinum, given their heritage and Clover, should be producing amazing games, instead they produce the sort of games, were it not for that heritage would be more ignored than they are now.
 
Nintendo will never make a decent Metrid game again. Retro went down the wrong path, Sakamoto went batshit crazy, there's pressure from people to turn the series into an online multiplayer FPS, and Nintendo seemed to learn nothing from Prime's success.

If you want 2D Metroid, look at the indie scene. Games like La Mulana 2 and Ghost Song will be closer to Super than anything Nintendo's gonna make.

If you want 3D Metroid... lol you're out of luck
 
Ocarina of Time looked boring as hell so I never even tried

Thought the N64 itself was crap and never was interested in it.

I may have been a PS fan boy back then haha. I'm Xbox now.

I wish Xbox one would start kicking ass and catch up but it wont happen and that makes me sad

I think there are some people out there who can buy all the platforms they want. And I think you are right about people getting defensive over the wrong choice. Its just something I think is silly though. I know there are games I want to play on platforms I am unable to purchase and I know I would miss out on some great games if I didnt already own the platforms I do. Guess its something that just wont ever go away which sucks. Part of the hobby.
 
Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker are my favorite entries in those franchises.

Bioshock Infinite's story and characters were completely boring.
 
I have quite a few:
-Cinematic games aren't worth more then $10-$20. The developers wanted to mirror a movie, so I'll pay the cost of a movie and treat it like one.
-I dislike most turn based games, especially the old school Japanese variety. They are slow and either offer no challenge or much too tuned. The turn based games I'll play are SRPGs, JRPGs with enemies on the map, CRPGs that are really tight experiences (Fallout being a prime example), and the rare TBS.
-I don't like themepark MMOs. They are billed as 'have fun when you hit level cap!'. NO, I bought the game and I want to have fun now. If a game takes that long to get interesting, then the game is bad.
-I feel like the only good FPS is an arcadey FPS, specifically arena shooters. Modern military shooters are a plague that I wish would fall out of popularity. On the topic of those..
-Level up systems with unlocks in multiplayer games needs to go. It creates too much of a barrier between newbies and seasoned player. Let player skill be the sole determination of how matches go, not player level.
 
I think the Wii U, currently, has a better library than either the PS4 or Xbone.

All systems in the future should be backwards compatible with their predecessors.

I think handheld games are better than console games.

I liked the Retro Prime games, but I generally agree.

The bad news is Nintendo probably won't make a 2D metroid, and if they do they'll fuck it up.

The good news is, like you say, Indies are more than making up for it.

I had the same feeling after or during halo 3. They obviously stripped out the story details to sell cross media content such as books, digital novels etc.

I love the prime trilogy (Prime is my favorite game period), I was just talking about how each game got more linear and guided and combat-oriented.

Corruption was a fine game, but I want another Prime or Super Metroid.
 
I hate Bayonetta. I love her character, design, moves, universe, but the actual game gets on my nerves. The combat, controls, and fights with the regular enemies are great, but the boss battles become a chore on subsequent playthroughs, and the QTEs are more annoying than the ones in RE6; I think it's bullshit that I have to press the button when they tell me to as opposed to pressing as soon as the sequence starts. And there's a bunch of stupid parts throughout that make repeat playthroughs a pain in my ass such as the motorcycle level, the missile riding mission, or when you have to press X to jump to another object. I enjoy using Bayo a lot more in Max Anarchy than her own damn game. I wish she was a Sengoku Basara character.
 
Legend of Dragoon was the best PS1 JRPG and Legend of Legaia has the best battle system of any JRPG.



Edit: Also, I find FFVII highly overrated and believe to this day that the original Resident Evils/Dead Spaces are not Survival-Horror.
 
I'm at the end of Case 5 in Ace Attorney Investigations 2 and honestly? The game really didn't deserve all the hype it got, and I think that just came from the fact that it wouldn't be released in the states.

Yeah, it's better than the first Investigations....but that game was a dud. There are some bright spots in the game (Case 4) but overall....yawn.

I'm no longer mad at Capcom for not bringing it over. It's honestly not that good.
 
I just started playing Halo 4 War Games and I don't see any issue with it. Have no problem with loadouts, etc.

Heh, that's funny. Bayonetta is my Game of the Generation and yet I agree with most of this (aside from the QTEs as I memorized them and stopped giving a shit). I hate every single boss that is not named Jeanne or Rodin and I don't get why they're praised at all, I absolutely loathe the dumb "smash Jubileus into the sun" minigame, and some of the "environment kills you" levels get my blood boiling.
It's just that the combat is so ridiculously fun (especially in the Angel Slayer mode) and the mechanics are so crazy good that I can't get enough of the game despite all that, and I'm willing to forgive absolutely everything it does wrong.
 
I got BF4 at launch on PS4. My experience with the games MP has been pretty much flawless from day one (bar a sound issue at the start of a game that is still present). Any issues i have seen have been minor and barely affect gamepaly or my enjoyment of the game.

People who say that BF4 is a broken, unplayable mess are wrong.

I personally was REALLY surprised by the game, I believe that AAI1 is the worst game of the whole series so I wasn't expecting much, but AAI2 is now my second favorite AA game, I loved the music, characters, how everything was meaningful by the end, and Edgeworth got tons of character development which was pretty neat too.

The whole PC Master Race circlejerk makes me hate Reddit more each time I bother going there. I get that it's supposed to be "ironic" but it's not funny when the vast majority of the subscribers to the subreddit take it seriously, invade threads, and talk down to console users.

Many RPGs created before 6th console generation and before have better executed narratives than the most lauded narrative driven game created in recent years. People readily place TLOU and Bioschock Infinite on their banner marching to the carefully marketed, self-congratulatory beats commonly referred to as "moving the industry forward," but in terms of the writing quality and game design they pale in comparison to games like the original Fallout of Planescape Torment. What's more is that Fallout and Planescape Torment used game design to help convey their stories in a way that made sense. TLOU and Infinite's tired shooting convention don't help to convey the narrative in any meaningful way.

And no, these are not nostalgia glasses. I wasn't even a toddler when Fallout was first released.
 
I thought of another!

I think Resident Evil 4 is the scariest Resident Evil game (although, I haven't played 1 or REmake).

The crowds, the lonely atmosphere, all the intense setups and enemies like the garrador, the opening village sequence, dr. salvador, the mine cart, the regenerators, the chainsaw sisters, the fucking hedge maze, and the creepy chanting cultists that you hear just around the corner...

RE2&3 have a spooky atmosphere and are littered with creative jump scares...but they're not actually 'scary', as in terror inducing, the way that RE4 is.

I prefer Uncharted 2, but I like it when 3 is people's favorite. It gets way too much hate, and it does quite a number of things better than the other games in the series.
 
- Microsoft has the better exclusive games. I always felt that quality over quantity. Microsoft exclusives tend to be very well polished and tend to push new ideas for the gaming atmosphere they inhabit. Not saying Sony exclusives are bad. Sony has very good games too, but I tend to lean towards Microsofts side.


- fuck season passes. Thank Epic Games and Microsoft for introducing it with Gears of War 3..

- Gears of War 3 is one of the best experiences to play online with friends over Xbox Live.

- Halo 4's MP is great. If you play today they have basically done away with Infinity Slayer. I believe I get 1 match of it compared to 6 of normal slayer.

- Xbox One will narrow the gap between it and the PS4.

- I believe the next console from Microsoft will be a powerhouse.

- Halo 5 will bring back the glory days of Halo.

- The Order 1886 will just be a visual spectacle.

- God of War will never return to its former glory.

- Forza Horizon will become the definitive Forza experience.

- Black Tusk will drastically change Gears of war for the worst.

- PSN is garbage compared to XBL.

- if it wasn't for PS+, Sony would have never came back from the hack they experienced.
 
I thought more or less everything about Paper Mario 2 (the characters, the enemies, the locations, that god awful sewer system) was worse than Paper Mario (and Super Paper Mario). Don't get all the love that game gets at all. It's not bad, but not the best PM game by far.
 
I hate almost anything Nintendo does these days, All 3D link games ae boring to me, I dont like gaming on the 3DS, I tune out anything that has mario attached to it cause i just can't stand to see him anymore. Metroid shouldve stayed 2D. Their products are just not for me.

I think Halo 4 is one of the best in the series.

Forza 5 is my favorite one in the series gameplay wise

Infamous has always been bad to me... the first one was tolerbale, the second was horrible, The new one is better but meh.

I generally dont like open world games

I dont think TLOU is as great as GAF makes it out to be.

Ryse is a GREAT game

Im all Digital.... dont even know if the disc drive on my consoles work

Resistance series is just not very good.

I Love Kinect

Killzone 3 is the best in the series

Super Time Force is currently my GOTY (I like it better than Shovel Knight)

LOL, no kidding. Well, Scalebound looks good...but that's more a MS moneyhat. Sunset Overdrive looks awesome too but same deal.
 
Playstation won the PS2 Vs. Original Xbox Era, Got their ass Kicked in the PS3 Vs. 360 Era

AND, Playstation 4 WILL get their ass beat in this Ps4 Vs. XboxOne era. They are out front now, but, Microsofts extreme willingness to spend money for Exclusive's coupled with the XboxOne's Ability to adapt & grow over the next 10 Plus years will spell DOOM for Ps4.

Playstation Now, will be trumped when Ubisoft Play & EA Origin sign exclusive deals with Xbox, as well as launching streaming Capability.

By 2020 there will NO LONGER be a Playstation Console in production.
