Indie Games 2014 [July] Now Voting - Post 430!

You brought that right? The payment went through okay and everything? I'm interested but always a little worried when sites use a widget that I don't recognize. I know its probably all okay but my paranoia makes me to ask before I throw my money through the internet.

Also, just learnt that Hidden in Plain Sight is coming to steam on the 17th. If you have ever played a local multiplayer game on your PC then you owe it to yourself, your friends and the vague concept of competition to get this game. If the developer is price matching it to its previous releases then it will be like a dollar or something.
I've bought other games from itch.io. It's safe.

Arcade Ace so far is being fun and enjoyable, there's a new arcade opening in the town and you need to collect coins to go to the arcade and play. The way you collect coins are doing several minigames that are scattered through the different locations, some allows you to retry if you fail, others don't. The game has kind of an Atari vibe, the chatacters seems more detailed than the ones from Atari era so it's mostly the colors that evoke it.

The developer's name looks familiar to me, anyone knows what other game he made?

Doesnt ring a bell for me at least.

Inquisitor is 69p on Steam today...

Also congrats on the RPS mention baddy - MAD jelly over here!

And nice work on that Ashen article - game is firmly on my radar now.

Hi, I'm the developer of Arcade Ace. Glad to hear you enjoyed the game!

As for my name looking familiar: the only other game I've released so far is Ninja Rush ( http://gamejolt.com/games/arcade/ninja-rush/1992/ ), a simple action game with similar aesthetics to Arcade Ace.
Both my games aren't exactly huge indie hits, so I don't think many people know my name.

I've made a few silly Youtube videos in the past though (one of them is a video game parody), so maybe, juuuuust maybe that's where you recognize my name from!

Claire's finally released

I checked the Beta for this as the dev is a gaffer. When I had the time, there was a critical bug which didnt let me progress, and then I drowned in work and couldnt do more betatesting..

Sorry, guys.

Anyone here tried Mother Machine? It didn't run well on the PC I'm currently using but I'm still interested to know more about the game, it looks interesting.

I think I played Ninja Rush so maybe it was from that game. xD

Would anyone here be interested in testing the PC version of OTTTD?
It's not major testing
It's not really game balancing testing or anything - just performance, doesn't crash, etc.. so no major commitment. We've added real-time shadows so that's the main unknown in terms of how it'll run for people
The dev asked me if I knew anyone else who might want to take a look. Here's his email if you do: pat@smgstudio.com

The Nightmare Cooperative - July 16th (PC, Mac, Linux)

http://luckyframe.co.uk/works/nightmare/

It’s a strategic adventure where you lead a group of unlikely comrades through some rather difficult situations. Your village has fallen on hard times (due to some rather reckless spending by the Village Council) and it’s up to you to bring back some gold.
Each character has a different special ability, but you move them all together – each turn needs to be thought through very carefully indeed.

Testing out GifCam, here's a GIF of Shadowcrypt

I have been going back and forth on whether I want to pick this game up or not. The GIF looks a lot better in motion than the screenshots. If you end up making more it would be great if you could share them in the thread.

These GIFs are actually from the trailer, not my own gameplay. Here's another

I'm back and forth on it too - it looks nice but I have the world's largest backlog already.

On the plus side I uninstalled DOTA 2 for what is, I hope, the last time - so that should free up some hours.

Don't, for the sake of your free time, start up Tales of Maj'Eyal.

I'm amazed that you even have any free time! You're like the world's busiest man!

I'm finishing up Dishonored and it's final DLC. This game deserved way more credit.

I have no clue how that works tbh. I have so much shit to do, yet still managed to put in 40 hours into Maj'Eyal or something, while everyone is still satisfied with my work.

*scratches head*

Maybe I accidentally figured out how to bend time.

Had one of those steam moments when I had a look at the steam store page for Maj'Eyal to see what it was retailing for only to find that I already owned it. Must of been in a bundle somewhere.

Edit: And just used the saved money to get Shadowcrypt, hooray!

Share your secrets with the rest of us!

Too many awesome games lately...

I know - and it's only going to get worse towards the end of the year.

Toma's time management skills must be out of this world.

More_Badass posted about this game a few posts above, but anyway it looks like an intetesting game.

Hah! I didn't realize it. Anyway, I've played a few early iterations of it. It's really good! It's about getting close to things, and dodging, and it feels really great. I'm hoping he puts up a demo or something soon.

Waaah, congrats, its been a while since you first mentioned it here :) Best of luck for the release!

Now we only need Malebolgia to come out still from the big ones we know for ages already :o

I'm planning to get an alpha build, of the full game, out by the end of the month. I trust you and others in here would be willing to give it a playthrough?

Other than that, I consider to have a small crowdfunding campaign to cover some licensing costs. Just not sure if it's worth the trouble to go for Kickstarter over IndieGoGo. Former is much more popular, but a little bit more hassle (and higher expectations?) than the latter.

What IndieGoGo campaigns have there been lately? Have they been successful or just completely driven out of the market by Kickstarter?

It would be great to hear some more Shadowcrypt impressions for us fence-sitters after you get some time with it.

Nah, IndieGoGo still finds its place, especially because its not as US centric. Every project I was interested in also got funded there, so it shouldnt be too big of an issue.

And sure, I'd love to give the alpha another whirl :)

I started playing Claire last night. I'm not very far in, only about 20 minutes, but they absolutely nailed the atmosphere. It's a very eerie unsettling game

I'll post more impressions once I've played more

Okay, played it for a bit and I'm afraid I can't recommend it. I found Shadowcrypt to be a fairly poor game. Given that the game is primarily about fighting enemies their AIs and battle patterns are just not interesting and varied enough, I found myself resorting to similar block, hit, knockback strategies for enemy after enemy and at was always fairly effective The game also suffers from repetitiveness,a feeling of slugishness after player input and the way the camera is fairly pulled back makes it hard to tell exactly what the sprites are doing which seems odd given how much of the screen real estate they don't use in every room. Although the biggest problem with Shadowcrypt is just how much punishment the enemies can take, their is a spear wielding skeleton you fight early on who takes somewhere between 17-20 hits to kill and given how the game plays you can't just whale on it so the dude takes an age to kill and your reward it to go to the next room with an identical enemy in a slightly different room layout.

I honestly can't think of any real positives for this game other then the lighting effects are quite nice and the super hardcore might get a kick out of it but I would recommend just finishing Volgarr on the B route if you want some tough sword cutting action.

Thanks for the impressions, sounds like I will wait for a sale on this one. Such a bummer when games look and sound interesting but don't live up to those expectations.

Hey folks, hate to do another shameless plug but The Sun At Night is currently sitting at #59 on Greenlight. We're hoping for the best when they release another batch this week, but we could really use the votes.

If you're in the top 75 you'll definitely make it. I think it would be extremely unlikely for you to lose 16 or more positions between now and Thursday or whenever the next batch is. So don't fret!

Voted anyway.

Giving away Tales of Maj'Eyal and Creeper World 3, quote to reveal. Please take one or the other, thanks.

Creeper World 3

Tales of Maj'Eyal

Sweet, I took Creeper World :) Awesome, thanks!

And <3 for giving out ToME love. I am about to make a mechanics discussion thread for it atm.

You are going to make me play ToME again Toma, if I don't play enough games this month it's all your fault. :P
