It's a really interesting genre (?) because it's wildly popular but the definitive game to
nail it has yet to come along. They all seem to be heavily compromised in some way. People thought that would be DayZ standalone, but the devs seen to have shit the bed there. Sony might do it with their H1Z1 game, but I don't think that's even alpha yet.
It seems to now be a race of who can put out a polished, fun, open ended game first. Whoever does will sell millions.

Great week of content - Dan seemed to just jump right in and try out a bunch of smaller games to QL which were usually pretty cool and Alex/Vinny started to put out more regular content too. Consistently having a few videos each day (and still more to come throughout the weekend/Monday) is awesome, this whole GBeast/GBW thing seems to be doing great things for the site's content output.
Plus we got an excellent Vinny livestream so this week was amazing.

GB Chicago needs to step its game up!
It sold well based on its name, but it also soured a lot of people to the genre.
But given the pervasive interest, I think there's potential for a breakout game to do Minecraft numbers and we won't stop seeing monthly new releases until there is one.

Sales-wise it did great, I think it sold 2m. But the updates don't seem to be coming as fast as you'd expect (especially since the devs said they staffed up thanks to the sales), there is lots of fundamental shit just missing and I think they're now switching engines. The mod is basically in better condition.

It's definitely put a question mark on his GB Chicago plans. This sounds like a incredibly selfish thing to say in light of the accusations, but I hope Giant Bomb's name isn't somehow dragged into this - there was already a lot of unfair judgements of them being a "dude show", they really don't need this to add to it.
I suppose a lot of it hinges on what her twitter account will say when she releases a statement.

It's not just the original accusation anymore - there seems to now be two separate (but anonymous, so could be the same person) blogs saying Max had an unsavoury reputation on campus.

Wow that's a rough situation for Max to be in. I'm sure Max as a fan of the site wouldn't want Giant Bomb's name to get dragged into this. Plus yeah, CBSi heads might be the ones that would put a stop to any Max ate kin associations. I don't see Patrick stopping non-site, side projects like the Lost rewatch cast though.
He's showing restraint and hesitating to sue, but I know if I was in his situation I would be incredibly angry. He's right in that even if he is innocent these accusations will follow him the rest of his life.
Patrick will be on his friend's side of the argument anyway. No matter if the accusations are true or not.

Le me rephrase what I meant. In a situation (like the one we have right now) where somebody is accusing Max and Max is 100% denying the facts then I expect Patrick to be on Max's side. I would do the same if a close friend of mine was in a similar situation. By default I'm gonna trust my friend.
I'm not talking about if Max endup being actually recognized guilty of the crimed alledged. Now that's different.

Given the current internet climate I think it is the best decision if Patrick stays silent regarding this mess with Max.
Stand by your friend sure but keep Giant Bomb away from it.
I feel for whoever the innocent party is though. The internet isnt going to make it easy for anyone. Nothing brings out the internet crazies quite like these stories.

But it's different when both you and your accused friend are relatively public figures in an industry where the subject matter is already at boiling point. Patrick has his career to consider.
It's one thing to support your friend in private, but public, unequivocal support? That's a tall order and I think any friend would understand why you'd want to suspend co-projects for a while at least.
There are a lot of question marks all over his statement. There is a breakdown of it on tumblr which, while overly accusatory, makes some good points.
Part of Temkin's blog about it kind of bugged me but I understand it is a hard thing to address properly. He said " I will continue to be a feminist and an advocate for women’s rights to the best of my capacity." I agree with what Cara Ellison stated on Twitter that a man shouldn't be patted on the back for being a feminist, it's called "not being a total fuck." To me, the way he stated that is a little self-glorifying. I also wish he wouldn't have brought up lawyers and such.
Again, I don't know who is telling the truth in this whole situation but those things kind of came off bad to me. If he's telling the truth it is a very awkward thing to address. There is a very blurry but narrow-line you'd have to walk when talking about it. He needed to get his side out there but I'm not sure if he did it too well. The woman making the accusations shouldn't be discounted at all at this point in time either. She could be telling the truth too and we need not forget that.
I try to think the best of people.

I use my roku app all the time. I sent a email to the bomb cast about the possibility of such an app in the future.............I got no response
They've talked about it before, the upfront costs of both those apps would be ridiculously high - like six figures. With how dirt cheap stuff like Chromecast/AppleTV/RaspPi/Xbmc boxes/Roku etc are, are they that needed?
But on the flip side, it's legit crazy how modern boxes are released without some low-barrier-to-entry marketplace. Both MS and Sony need an App Store on their consoles ASAP - especially MS, imagine the cool stuff people could do with Snap given the chance.
Edit: can someone tell me why FIFA looks like trash? I haven't played it in nearly a decade but it still looks like a PS2 game. As there's almost no world geometry, you'd think the player models and animation would be better. Or is most of the console power spent on AI?

Every Fifa since Fifa 10 is basically the Legacy edition.
Pro Evo 15 looks decent because it is on the Fox Engine but EA has money hatted most Club/League Licenses. The Champions league is the only thing missing from Fifa game as that is a Pro evo exclusive though.

i don't think giantbomb has anything to do with the roku/xbmc/etc apps. they just have an api available for 3rd party developers to use

When Drew was saying how good the game looked and good the animation was, I wondered if he was watching something else. The player models are incredibly basic and the animation so stilted and canned - there's no fluid transition between them and anytime two players interact, it's like there's a force field around them.
Reminds me of the bullshit on the OG Xbox. EA weren't making their games online because MS controlled the user data. MS eventually caved, seeding control and then, 'coincidentally', all their XSN Sports stuff shut down. Links especially was so good and much better than anything EA have since made.
