They kinda did.

Definitely disagree with this. Destiny was going to speak for itself one way or the other. It was an awesome surprise, and seems kinda silly to be disappointed we're getting the same content in the Beta when we're already going to play the game twice before release, and within close proximity to one another!

Seems like a good amount of content for a Beta. Going back to Old Russia, good! I was far from done exploring that area and doing the public events. PVP is fun, so 4 maps sound good. The only thing I hope is different is the strike mission, would like a taste of something different this go 'round. But, if it's the same, hopefully the level cap will be high enough to take advantage of some of the gear it drops on Legendary mode.

I happen to be busy Mon-Wed. but Thursday-Sunday I will be Beta all day (streaming it too on PS4).

As I sit here on the south Shore of long Island looking across the ocean and up at the 'super moon' that is currently over head, I wonder is it any coincidence that Destiny will release on the Final appearance of the Super Moon for the summer season... September 9th?

weird we're like... right next to each other

I never played diablo 3 so I will be getting the ps4 version!
Smart man. Add me to PSN so I can give you free gifts. In fact, anyone planning to play Diablo 3 UE Edition pn PS4, add me - Kurt-Niisan.

The Queen of Dragons speaks the truth.

Plus it's not like releasing the Alpha was do or die for the game. Was it beneficial? Absolutely! But to me it came off more like, "Oh, hey, we have the servers up and running for the Alpha for friends and family, let's open it up to everyone else and see what happens."

Of course, this could've been planned from the beginning, seeing as how the Alpha was running the week of E3. But I dunno.

I have almost no doubt that the alpha was planned to be released from the beginning, over the short period that we got it. I also believe that it was more for promotional purposes than testing (although testing will be done off the back of it), because remember the negative attitudes towards the game before E3 and the alpha, compared to the utter flip-flop afterwards. It was a VERY smart move.

Well yea, it was going to speak for itself this month. But the alpha gave the game a month of early exposure and hype, turned virtually all the negative PR around, and skyrocketed the preorder numbers, moreso than they would have been without it.

ive always said the game has sounded great on paper, but the last month helped many of us to experience the game you and others have had the chance to see prior to these tests. it wasnt 'do or die', but it has only been good at getting it out there and getting many of us on board sooner.

i was largely apathetic pre-E3 and I never expected to play Destiny until September, so im tremendously pleased with the direction theyve gone since, whether it was planned or not. ill take old russia for the entirety of august if it meant playing Destiny some more!

I don't think it actually was. Even before the Alpha a lot of people who gave impressions of the game had been saying "you have to play it to really GET it" and the trailers weren't getting across to the players. So I think they realized, "Well we're going to have the servers up for E3 anyways, let's just run an Alpha instead of using white listed boxes and then they'll understand what we're talking about."

it just seems weird to try to discredit the influence the alpha had.

I'm confused here. Where have I discredited the success of the Alpha? All I said was that the being disappointed because we have the same location in the Beta as we had in the Alpha is kind of silly because: the Alpha was unexpected and they didn't have to release it; the Alpha was only on PS4, and the Beta is releasing on Xbox – it would be (again even more) unfair to give PS users time with more and different content than Xbox users.

None of that speaks to the influence of the Alpha.

Why would you be disappointed? Bungie/Activision didn't have to release that Alpha, you know.

But they did release the alpha.

Also I want to get an idea of how other zones will be structurally. Old Russia didn't really live up to my expectation after someone from bungie straight up lied during one of the playthroughs of the e3 2013 demo. Instead of Old Russia being that big open world, it's rather a bunch of areas connected by linear corridors and narrow paths.

I think you might not want to play the beta then, because I'm pretty sure that's the only place we'll be able to Explore.

I'm obviously gonna try it out regardless. I want to see how many of the alpha issues are still there. And yes I know how cynical that sounds

ugh i hate how slow mobile is -_-

i personally am not complaining about 'seeing the same area again' because you're right that we didnt have to see old russia; the alpha was likely not supposed to go public.

what i went on to say is that it was a smart move and has done nothing but positive things for the game. i didnt say they were in the hole before the alpha or that the game was gonna flop, but the decision to open it up came at the right time and it's been a great success.

the part u quotes (that i edited out after refreshing this slow ass browser and reading ur later post) was specifically referencing your comment about them 'not having to give us the alpha'. i felt that comment came across as "be grateful", which didnt make sense to me since it has helped Bungie as much as it 'helped' the rest of us.

But i digress. This is hardly the time to complain about 'the same content'. I too would like to see more, but im more interested in seeing how our feedback has helped what we already did play. Testers run around the same levels for months and sometimes the only change is a new rock or enemy spawn.

anything else that is confusing is mobiles fault. hard to use my normal spot check posting style so im probably missing strains of the conversation.

Just a quick heads up for those UK Amazon customers who pre-ordered Destiny on PS4. I've tried and tried to get a response on the matter of Beta codes and just received the following email:

Amazon UK said:
I can certainly understand your concern.

I am sorry to hear that you've not received your Beta code for your "Destiny Limited Edition (PS4)".

I can confirm you're eligible to receive your Beta code.

I've checked our records for you now and I found that codes will be e-mailed to you before the launch of the beta.

Beta opens on July 17, 2014 at 18:00 BST.

Please rest assured that you'll receive your code before the launch of the beta.

I'm aware It doesn't really say much but thought I'd post it in case anyone was waiting for a code.

besides, it's not like it's the alpha cut and pasted. They made changes and there are new items and areas in old russia and crucible. i think if one were to find fault in playing content they were already familiar with, then they'd best avoid pre-release tests/demos entirely.

xbox guys are in for a treat
Yeah, and? That's still doesn't address the fact that the Alpha was only available to the public on the PS4. Think of Xbox One users who still haven't had a chance to play on Old Russia and will be getting to spend half the number of days with the Beta as PS4 users.

this is a good point. Playstation shouldn't complain about playing the same content when Xbox hasn't played it at all and will have less time to play it. And again, it's not the exact same content copypasta'd

But they did release the alpha.

I'm actually glad that we can only explore Old Russia because I don't want any of the other planets or areas to be spoiled for me by September. It also gives me a reason to spend more time in crucible matches which I was starting to warm up to by the time the alpha ended.

I don't mind that we'll visit Old Russia again. I don't want to be spoiled on Venus or Mars. But I hope areas like Kings Watch will be opened up for exploration.

Right! Exactly. That's what I've been trying to say. And yeah, there are going to be differences because it'll be a new build.

They've shown a fair amount of things in the beta timeframe that wont be in the beta. We wont see Cabal, Twilight Gap or Exodus Blue until the release and the second subclasses are definitely going to be absent as well.

Lots to look forward to though!!! I really hope there is some sort of theater mode, at least for crucible

lol now we're on the same page :p

speaking of 'build', is there a reason they used 'beta build' instead of just 'beta' like the alpha? Seems a bit superfluous to me

I remember how surprised I was at the graphics in Alpha. I just couldnt believe I was playing it at just the Alpha stage. I'm pretty sure the graphics would have been toned down for it no?

Last gen consoles should really struggle to run it. (The full game i mean)

Considering I was one of the people playing until Alpha servers shut down, I honestly didn't have enough time with the Alpha content. If we get the same Old Russia I would be happy, if we get more of it opened up, I would be very happy. I don't foresee me burning out on Old Russia anytime soon :)

Which, incidentally, is the same amount of time that PS4 users had the alpha.

speaking of 'build', does that word in the watermark bother anyone else? Seems a bit superfluous to me, but oh well.
Only when you're trying to take a beautiful screenshot, then it gets annoying with the watermark.

Old Russia again?

My time has come! That ??? Ogre is gonna get what's coming to it. And the knight as well!
I'm gonna die again. D:

For those of you using EU as your region for PS3/4, can you please try selecting your platform on Bungie.net again to check if it works?

Report back.

It may be working...

Y'all forgetting about Metro Redux.

So hyped for this. I hope it does decently, but it's coming out in a tough spot.

So 4 MP maps, 4 SP missions, one strike and one free roam area? I hope the strike and free roam area are different than the Alpha but I highly doubt it.

Now we just need to know the level cap.

How do you preload the Beta? Bungie hasn't given out the codes yet on their site, so I am confused as to how you get it. Is it like because you've stated that your platform is PS4 that you get in in your download history or something?
