I was referring to the end of this but it's been a while since I've seen his dancing blades finish, so I could be wrong. It just looked different at first
I think with the POTD earlier and the trailer reveal today just opens a wide possibility of things we never thought would happen. From last weekend we were pretty sure that it will be Shulk that will be revealed. Ray Man's trophy then shook up that certainty. Then this trailer just flat out destroyed our expectations. So at this point, anything just can happen.
On a side note, with 4 playable characters Fire Emblem instantly becomes one of the most represented franchises in Smash, and at this point only the Mario universe has greater than 4 reps at the current standing.

Baby steps. At least we have Little Mac, Ganondorf and Mii for now.

personally i think it does make her a new character but we will have to see (either way though im super happy and excited shes in regardless)

Why would they make her an alt costume when she is a completely different character in the fiction, and they could get away with having another slot with different move properties?

Well, again, Lucina is a separate person from everyone, but that doesn't mean she's a separate character when she hasn't shown any mover of her own, she was mostly underplayed in the reveal gameplay wise and we know character's armatures will be able to use different character models.

Love it! I'm hoping when the game releases they will be official artwork of all the females together (hopefully with Dixie).

Why waste time giving her another slot with different move properties, when they could just make her an alt costume for Marth (which makes perfect sense because they fight the same way in Awakening)?

i noticed that in her pic she has a slight different jumping animation from marth (at least thats what i think)
edit;also while i do feel like lucina is going to be a clone to marth i do think her move properties will be different

The DLC is actually a chapter, not just the characters by themselves (which are pretty barebones) and you need to finish that chapter to recruit them and then you can use then anywhere. Marth's has the lowest level DLC and can be gotten as soon as the DLC becomes available, while Ike's DLC is actually higher level than the last story chapter.
There are multiple difficulty levels, and the actual Awakening characters (not the DLC ones) can have different pairings, which changes their children's stats and appearance (just hair color). There's a large pool of characters for different teams and such too.

Count them as a male and a female character, if they can be both. Might also work that way for some of the Pokemon.
Why would they spend so much dev time making a completely new model for it to be an alt costume for Marth?
"Just make her an alt costume," do you realize how much time that takes? If they take the time to make a model, why would they not want it to be a clone and please the fans of the character that much more?
I'm just trying to figure out why you think an alt costume is even in the cards given what we know, and Smash's past history with clones.
