Mourinho: blame lies with Sabella not Messi

http://www.espnfc.com/fifa-world-cu...essi-legacy-after-2014-world-cup-final-defeat

Mourinho instead laid the blame at the feet of Argentina manager Alejandro Sabella over his withdrawal of Ezequiel Lavezzi for Sergio Aguero at half-time.

"I would like to know why Lavezzi stayed in the dressing room at half-time," Mourinho said. "Argentina had been playing with two lines of four, with Enzo Perez closing Philipp Lahm and Lavezzi doing the same on the other side. Because they were so compact Messi could walk while defending and then when he got the ball he had the energy to make the difference.

"When Sabella brought Aguero on for Lavezzi, Argentina changed from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 and they lost a lot of balance. Messi had to run much more after Lavezzi went off.

"The team lost balance and especially energy -- energy that they needed in extra-time."

I think people don't appreciate how hard it is to be a ref. There is only 1 guy out there and he can't be looking in all directions at the same time. The players know it and take advantage of it. And the refs angle is often blocked by another player between him and the foul.

And when a foul occurs, it is a split second event. We sit here and look at GIFs in slow motion after the fact and whine about things.

Perhaps FIFA should consider putting another ref out there and/or allowing calls to be contested by instant replay. But they won't because they are FIFA.

How's there no bratwurst?
This Bratwurst thing needs to end. Döner is much more popular in Germany than Bratwurst.

Well yeah AFAIK Lavezzi wasn't injured so why the hell would he take out the (by far) best player of the first half? worst decision ever.

Lavezzi ran like a maniac in the first half. I'm pretty sure Sabella took him out because he was exhausted. It was probably planned that we would go in halftime, thatwhy he ran so much in first half.

No, Mourinho. Argentina lost because Hiquain and Messi did not score their 100% chances.
Nah, argentina lost because germany is a comfortably better team. Lets not forget that germany "could" have scored on a number of other occasions too, and kroos "shouldnt" have headed the ball back lile that for higuains chance.

I really want to go to Rio. But I'm a pasty blonde dude and slightly worried about the crime. An acquaintance of mine moved to Rio to live with his then girlfriend. A month later he was mugged at gunpoint twice and all his stuff stolen from a break in, and moved back to the Netherlands.
Watching cidade de deus obviously doesn't help either lol. I thought it got better but then a lot of people got pickpocketed (sometimes violently) during the fan events too.

Well, Brazil is a poor country and unfortunately that won't change anytime soon, so this kind of thing still happens, but the crime rate (at least here in Rio) is lower than ever. And of course, a foreigner living here is a totally different thing than spend a week or two on vacation. But for tourism IMHO isn't not any different than some tourist cities that I've been in the past like NY, Chicago, Mexico City and London (specially MC when I was pickpocketed, NY and London at night).

I say give it a try. Just stay low profile (as you should do in any country, not only in Brazil) and know where you are going, you will be safe. Having a brazilian friend showing you around is ideal. There are several closed tours with minimal interaction if you are really concerned of safety, but they are boring lol.

I had several european friends that stayed here at my home (including a french guy that stayed here for the WC), and they had the time of their lifes.

I actually agree with Mourinho for once.

Sabella did exactly the same thing against Holland in the semi, and they lost control of that match too.
Lavezzi and Perez should have both stayed on in both matches. Aguero and Palacio ruined their shape. Aguero was clearly not fully fit anyway.

I don't know how much Messi's opinion had to do with all of this. He clearly wanted to play with his mate Aguero. Tevez should have been there etc etc...

WORLD FUCKING CHAMPIONS!!!!!

I'm so tired man, was up until 4 am partying and had to get up for work the next day. Only just got back.

I might collapse in a minute.

Too bad that some German fans are only able to see this shit black and white. No one will take your victory back. I think they deserved the win yesterday, they also deserved a red card for Howedes and possibly a yellow for Neuer. But it is what its I guess. Fans being fans.

But the Argentinians didn't??

It's hard when the only Italian in the final is shit I guess. :P
j/k, relax

Let's not pretend the German team only won this game by being thugs. They had their bad moments but that applies to both teams. It was a deserved, hard fought win. Anyone saying otherwise probably saw a different game.

In fact, Argentina was way worse at first, they essentially dragged Germany into lashing back.
Obviously part of the tactic to keep Germany from playing their usually style. Get them involved in a grudge match instead.

I'm still not sure what's the difference. Where I live they call it Rostwurst. They come in red or white.

We have rote (red) and weiße (white) Bratwürste. Weißwurst isn't a Bratwurst, it's something typically bavarian.

It needs to be peeled and you normally eat sweet mustard and a Breze with it.

That is also true but World Cup's have some sort of football law. If you do not finish your chances, the other country will. It happened with Holland in 2010 with Robben against Casillas. Those are defining moments.

Those still thinking that Neuer's challenge was a foul, just have a look if you can find any Argentinians arguing strongly for a penalty. There was hardly any protest, so even they know that wasn't a foul by Neuer, if anything, it was a foul by Higuain as he walked under Neuer and took out his legs.

Players are supposed to get out of the way of the GK in those situations, as the GK will get that ball every time, the only possible result from going in there are potential injuries for both sides.

Romero does it even more extreme in this situation, but Klose does the correct thing and goes out of Romero's way:

ye not sure why lavezzi had to stay off the field for the second half, it did not work out against netherlands so why should it now? He was arguably one of the best argentinian players on the field, I would really like to know what the coach was thinking.

Oh boy. That logic is absurd

Actually that one would have been a foul, penalty, and red card if he touched Klose because he sticks his leg out just to catch him.

(although Romero only stuck his leg out because he wasn't going to touch Klose, I doubt he was actually trying to kick him)

Did you guys know that the streaker in yesterdays match was a popular youtuber/prankster (6.5M Subs)?

This dude is just batshit crazy

Lol at the delusional's thinking Neuer's challenge was illegal. Higuain should send his thanks that Neuer gave him a chance to kiss his knee.

Neuer is so god-tier I can't believe we've sung the praises of third rate midgets like Casillas for so long. Such a gulf in class it is unbelievable. If it went to pens the Argies would have bricked it and Bierhoff would have set them off again.

It was a joke. I'm pretty sure the Dirndl isn't all that popular either.

Dirndl and Lederhosn are actually quite popular in bavaria.
Many people wear it on special occasions and of course during Oktoberfest.
I have a lederhosn and I wear it probably 3 or 4 times a year.
I've never in my life eaten sauerkraut and I don't like Bratwurst, though.

I apologize for my Bratwurst joke then. I thought that the picture I was commenting on wasn't serious and more about funny stereotypes.

This is ridiculous. Look where the challenge happened, hint: in the edge of the area. Close to being a handball by Neuer even. Higuain is looking at the ball the whole time and Neuer blindsides him. Arguing that it was somewhat a foul by Higuain and that it was his fault is the most absurd stretch. He didn't "walk under Neuer and took out his legs" at any time. Look at the video ffs.

The ref made the wrong call. It should've been a throw-in. It was a reckless challenge, but that was it.
