Lucina, Robin AND FEMALE ROBIN, & Captain Falcon Are Today's Smash Newcomers!

I feel like we're probably going to see Shulk and/or Rhythm Heaven character in the final game and all of the people saying "well it's obviously fake now" are going to be confused by the idea that there's a level of access between "Sees the whole game every single day" and "is a liar making things up"
Exactly

I'm sure it's been discussed, but what do you guys think of the validity of the Gematsu leaks? The leaks have, up until now, been correct. Chrom not being playable may have debunked the leak, but too many of the names have already been proven true.

Not saying he just made some guesses and lucked out but too be honest he mostly just named representives of the most successful games on DS and Wii and the most requested classic characters.

I agree that WiiFit trainer has been rather obscure but the games sold something like 20m+ and the trainers are besides your avatars/Mii the characters of the game.

Miis also have been an easy guess, these avatars actually have been some kind of a symbol from the beginning of Nintendos last gen systems and also had been availabe in a wide range of games and among the most successful. They basically are the modern incarnation of the Game and Watch character and something like a new mascot.

Animal Crossing became a huge seller and is among the most successful games in Japan.

New Pokemon from the latest entry also already had a precedent in Brawl, easy to guess.

The same goes for Fire Emblem from Melee (Roy) to Brawl (Ike) but he still got this one wrong since Chrom doesn´t seem to be playable.

While Punch-Out isn´t among the most successful franchises nowadays, Little Mac was by far the most asked for and very iconic especially in the US.

Pac-Man - BandaiNamco is co-developing the game, that they would have a representative was a sure-bet, most people expected this character and just waited for confirmation.

About Shulk, so far no confirmation and who knows maybe he won´t be even in the game (I wouldn´t mind because he looks pretty generic to me). He could have been named simply because Xenoblade has built a little cult among some vocal JRPG fans in the internet and it´s also getting a sequel.

The choire boys from Rythm Tengoku, after scoring with the WiiFit Trainer another obscure choice from a popular series (in Japan the DS verison is a million seller). But in this case the chances are very slim to be in the game in my opinion.

Gonna stop you right there. No one on the Internet guessed Wii Fit Trainer besides that guy -- which is why I'm confident it's no guess. Well, that and the fact that if you were making up shit trying to look clairvoyant after the fact, would you really make only six guesses, and then waste one of your guesses on WFT? The guy definitely has/had some level of access.

Xenoblade Chronicles did reasonably well. It sold well in Japan and Europe, and it sold really well in North America considering the number of copies printed and how niche the genre has become, especially on consoles. Plus, a lot of people seem to consider the best JRPG of last gen, enough so that Operation Rainfall got as big as it did. And now Nintendo is really pushing its sequel.

As for the Chorus Kids, we've already seen a Rhythm Heaven enemy in Smash Run. Consider how every enemy seen so far comes from a universe that has or had playable characters in the Smash series, it's a decent indicator.

That doesn't account for the leaker being dead wrong about Chrom though.

Yes, not Shulk :p

While I personally don't care much for Lucina, she's the first traditional female warrior. Not a princess nor does she look like a dude. A pretty cool figure for young girls.

Dat Captain Falcon, aww yiss... Now all I need is my main man Ganondorf, and I'm set!

I really hope Ganondorf is actually going to be in this one, I mean, he is a veteran, right? So pretty good chance he's still in.. Kinda wanted Solid Snake too, but I guess he's pretty much been dumped.

How are there five Fire Emblem characters? Do the Robins take up two character slots?

Smash Bros. is looking awesome, so many amazing newcomers that I can't wait to try out.

She technically is a princess though.
She also disguises herself as a dude early on in the game.

Four characters, Chrom only appears during Robin's final smash.

The Robins take up a single slot, like Wii Fit Trainer and Villager.

It's definitely the biggest gaff he's made, but there are some possible explanations. Chrom has a fairly detailed model for being part of a final smash, so he could have just seen that and assumed he was being prepped to be a fighter. Also, he could just be ignorant about fire emblem, or maybe Chrom was planned to originally be the Marth clone, but they switched to Lucina for certain reasons.

Yep. There are a number of possible explanations. Hopefully the leaker will respond to Sal and clarify things.

AWESOME ADDITIONS

SO AWESOME

5 Fire Emblem characters and still no Falco? The fuck?

4 Fire Emblem characters.

Villager and Fitness Trainer both have male and female versions as a different costume, so I would assume this would be the same. That doesn't make them separate characters.

Nintendo killing it with the female representation.

I like how much they packed into the one reveal trailer. A single character announcement is pretty hype, but this is awesome.

Robin seems like an odd addition, but more FE characters are always welcome.
Odd? He was the player's avatar in the most popular FE to date. Robin and Lucina are "Marths" for a new generation of FE fans. :-)

That's especially appropriate with Lucina, being a new generation in another sense (Chrom's kid).

I think Robin is good just for the fact that you can be gender specific and it's a magic user (even if they carry a sword).

I was hoping we would do away with all clone characters, but I still think Lucina is neat, regardless.
