Maybe they will be regulated to his special moveset and will work kinda like stances?
so his
neutral b access to all the lightning tomes
side b access to fire tomes
down b> access to nosferatu
and up b> access to the wind tome?
(and can change them on the fly)

his sword is kinda weird to me maybe its random? or he starts with levine sword and as it gets used he has to *recharge it* so he ends up using the bronze sword till then?

but im guessing hes gonna be super weird to play for sure

I can't wait for the Amiibos, I'm wondering if they'll bother doing the actual alts (Fem Villager, Robin, Male WFT, Wire-frame Lil-Mac). Once I get out of University and have a job, I'm going to do some collecting.
 
Lucina is probably a clone, not an alt.

Lucina looks faster than Marth (E3 demo), alts dont have gameplay changes.

And its not the first clone in the game, as Link and Toon Link still share most of their moves.

Well, the difference there, I suppose, is if you're talking about things like Marios USA colors, or Link's Skyward Sword outfit, those are just recolors, which Smash has ALWAYS had, so I think it's reasonable to say that's not what he's discussing here. Other than that, the only alt costumes we had are characters who keep their "identity" in tact when they change costume. I.E. Wii Fit Trainer is WFT whether male or female, and Wario remains himself, whether he has his biker outfit, or his overalls, so this still doesn't contradict with Sakurai's statement of "taking away uniqueness" of the character. Lucina being a costume for Marth absolutely does do that, and is the only costume situation (so far) that would seem to contradict that statement.

EDIT: I should point out, however, that we'll have to wait to hear more about Lucina from Sakura himself before we can be sure, but I do think there's a case to be made for clone with the info we have.

We also have things like Little Mac's alt costume though (not wireframe). It's obvious that he's not sticking to the "no costumes" rule at any rate.
 
My older kid is devastated, because he thinks both his mains (Falco and Lucas) will be cut, he is wrong guys, right?.

He really has 3 mains (Ike)

personally i just pick whoever lol (i dont mind wether the character is scantily clad or wearing full body armor if the character is cool the character is cool :P) but yeah i do see where your coming from and i do think its great nintendo is putting in some strong females as well :P

I mentioned that aspect, and like WFT or Villager, Mac's Pink Sweatshirt does not remove any sense of "identity" associated with Little Mac. It's similar to Wario being in his Biker Outfit vs. his Overalls, it keeps his "uniqueness" in check.

I mostly want Lucina be a clone and not an alt because clones will make the roster look bigger at a glance, and nothing makes a fighting game feel awesome then having tons of characters to select
 
I don't think Lucina having her mask removed as an intro is indicative that she is not an alternate appearence for Marth: Little Mac's alternative looks include the pink sweatclothing he removes when he enters. His entrance doesn't make sense when the clothes remain so I would assume he has a couple entrance animations to accomodate the fact. Plus we were already counting on the Lucina appearance to have the appropiate voice clips as well. So having extra content as animations wouldn't be so rare as part of the special treatment its recieving.

Has this been posted? Sakurai interviewed by Joystiq seems to dislike the idea of costumes for characters as it takes away their "uniqueness."

He wouldn't elaborate on exactly what those customization are, saying only that they won't be costumes and they won't be something that players have to unlock through repetitive tasks. Different costumes, he said, would take away from what makes each character unique. He also wanted to avoid boring, repetitive tasks, while Sora works to produce a "stress free, easy connectivity" between the two versions.

He seems to only be referring to customization with that comment and not the game as a whole.
 
Okay, ask yourselves this.

If Sakurai was putting a character into a Smash Bros. game with their own slot, whose moveset is based on another character, what are the odds that he would not introduce a single change to that second character's moves or animations in the final game.

If Chrom's a Lucina alt, they wouldn't need to change any moves.
 
I never really thought too much about it, but we're gonna get Fire Emblem Awakening music in this game. Imagining fighting to some of those songs.... FFFFFFFFFFFFF

The shitty thing is that they said the 3DS game will only get like two tracks per stage, and it's the game with the actual Awakening stage. Hopefully the coliseum will have a good amount of FE:A tunes.

If it has 「Id」 ~ Purpose I will never play another stage.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what he was talking about though. They're the very definition of an alternate costume. You can't really look to that quote when it doesn't apply.

Anyway, I updated my roster. Fits perfectly on the 3DS screen, so I don't think we'll see any additional characters. Miis are selectable in another fashion (not on the select screen) so that it doesn't look ugly during online matches.

Just a rough idea, but you can see how it fits. Like the demo, it's 4x6. 48 roster spots, plus 3 Miis. 50 characters overall!
