I need to get in on this. Destiny pretty much sounds like the game I've always wanted to play (no pressure, Bungie!).

Wanna play together sometime? #buildingthebomb #giantplays

I'd be definitely down for that sometime, but I only had 2 actual matches and 2 bot matches as of yet, and I seem to get steamrolled if I use anything other than Sand King (even by bots). I think I need to have a bit more understand of the game before I burden someone with my lack of skill

I am going to give Sniper a go later (probably v bots), and see if I like it. I should probably open a wiki to read up on the characters, but that seems like a dark path.

At least I have no urge to buy items yet. That's a great sign.

I'd totally play Destiny with you people, too bad it's on consoles :(

I'm buying a PS4 more or less just because of Destiny. Since I have a gaming PC there's not really a lot of other games I'm interested in on the PS4 that I can't get on Steam, but Destiny looks fucking awesome.

I've only played 4 or 5 online matches myself so far. I was getting destroyed with Tidehunter, but I've actually been doing "ok" with Dragon Knight. I also found this comfortable guide that straight-up shows you in which order you should distribute points into abilities, what items to get, what lane you should go in and what role you play - a checklist, basically. Pretty handy and not that "dark". :p

Anyway, let me know when you're up for it. I think playing with other people you "know" makes the game 1000x better.

Vinny and Alex are quickly making Giant Bomb East become best Giant Bomb. Also loving the huge amounts of content these last couple of weeks.

The hype train got to me as well despite telling myself i wouldn't get a PS4 until next year. Here's the bundle for it (white ps4 > black ps4)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KVOVBGM/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Black > white. Always.

But yeah, Destiny and Bloodborne are really making me consider buying a PS4. And since I never had a PS3 I haven't played TLoU either.

But buying a console means no money for synths! Why can't I have infinite money?

Wow, you're right. I have an email from April. I thought that was an alpha code, not beta. Glad I didn't delete it. I figured codes weren't going to be out until the 17th. Thanks.

You need to redeem that one on the bungie site and select your platform. They will an actual store core on thursday to download the game.

I forgot I bought that Charisma.com album from iTunes when that was a thing. It popped on the phone when out.

Automade is legitimately catchy.

Is this J Pop? Am I going to hell now?

If I was in the alpha will I automatically be in the beta? Because I haven't done anything to try to sign up for it.

They'll probably do something like that, I don't think you will be in from the start

If you want to be sure, just preorder from Amazon... wait for the promotion email, then cancel that order. Use the promotion code you received on Bungie.net. That will guarantee a alpha code on 17th, and cost you nothing.

still 15% off at target if you use their coupon app (today only)
No Targets in Finland. I just checked the prices, and apparently the PS4 is 450€ here, and that's without a game bundle. Pretty tough to swallow after having bought a 250€ Wind Waker Wii U.

I'm guessing the price is that high because Xbox One hasn't been released here yet, it's not nearly as expensive elsewhere in Europe (i.e. Germany).

The Destiny Alpha was way more fun than I was expecting and I was already looking forward to the game. I'm counting down the very few days until the Beta! Hopefully GB does another unfnished for the beta.

Just pre order/ cancel on amazon and you will get a code to redeem on the bungie site. On the 17th you will receive 3 keys for your selected platform.

I went to the strip club with pockets stuffed with twenties, but had to come back when I noticed the club had been shut down a half dozen years before. Damn New England's puritanical laws. I had no choice but to buy the fridge. It's in transit, and should be here on Tuesday. Maybe Wednesday. Either way, I'll send it out the next day.

Here's the letter I plan to include with it. Put people's handles where available, so check it over to make sure you're on there, and listed how you want to be listed.

I'm not listed there (maybe because I wasn't in the google doc); just listing me as BTA's fine.

Fighting Game Community?

I have never paid enough attention to it to be excited by it. Any time I look at fights, there is too much going on on screen, and due to my lack of knowledge of the genre, there is no reason for me to get excited.

...

It is my own lack of knowledge that is at fault, as I just cannot be bothered to invest time to learn what it needed to appreciate things.

Usually good commentary can overcome the lack of knowledge. I'm pretty terrible at most fighting games. I don't know what a "frame trap" is. I barely understand the concept of an "option select." But listening to good commentators, like UltraDavid and Aris, both expands my knowledge and makes the match more interesting (especially Aris's commentary, 'cause that guy is hilarious).

As for fights that have "too much going on on screen," were you watching Marvel? lol. You should check out some of the finals matches with Snake Eyez's Zangief in Ultra Street Fighter IV at Evo this year. On the surface, barely anything happened in the match, but I found it super exciting because of how tense it was. And the commentary helped out a bunch to understand why the matches played out like they did.

As for the comparisons between the FGC and e-sports, here's quote from Jeff on the matter.

Jeff Gerstmann said:
When fighting game players come together for something like EVO they make eSports look like a shameless corporate cashgrab by comparison.

That quote loses some impact when I consider my newfound burning desire for Baja Blast and movies about apes.

Not to say there isn't a big difference between FGC stuff put on by a community and MLG put on by a big corporation. Stuff like The International and League of Legends tourneys feel fairly genuine, however. Even if the people putting them on are the people that make them.

Preorder then cancel, eh? I can't believe I never thought of that. Thanks, guys.

They should play some Cannon Brawl on UPF. Game seems really fun.

Btw - 'Light', the stealth game they did a QL of two weeks ago, is on Steam now.

Yeah, that's the plan at least! I ordered a PS4 so it should hopefully be here by Wedensday. There's a GB guild for this, isn't there?
