54. I think that's certainly within the realm of possibility. And I don't necessarily expect all of them. I expect between 50-55 characters.

Man, Prime's Samus face looked amazing at the time and still looks pretty good. It's ridiculous how much worse she looks in Prime 2, especially when everything else in that game looked better.
Its like they took fifteen years off her. Everything about her face tells a completely different story than it did in Prime 1. It was like, damn, she's seen some shit.

Yeah, but I don't think Snake would be revealed in a newcomer trailer as just another vet the way Captain Falcon was. If he's back I imagine he'll get something more like how Sonic was confirmed for Smash 4. Snake and Sonic as special guest don't fall into the same classification as other Brawl vets and really shouldn't be revealed like just any other character. Plus Robs themselves were shown off before Brawl's release in the various footage and pics of Subspace Emissary and the actual playable ROB was kept a secret. The same thing could happen in Shulks trailer, he could fight a bunch of generic robs in that while the ROB is kept as a secret character. After all G&W showed up as a teaser in Pac Man's trailer and still isn't confirmed and is likely an unlockable.
Don't tell me you also missed Kellam...
Balancing everyone of those must be a nightmare.
Most companies can't even dream of filling that much space with recognizable characters like Nintendo can.

I will never understand what happened. I was fourteen when I played Prime 2 and I was seriously upset when I saw her new model. I was so confused and betrayed. Prime 2's Samus doesn't even feel like it's from the Prime series.
Prime 1 Samus was actually my first ever look at the character, so I have that bias. But she looked like a real person. Then seeing how she was remodeled in Prime 2 as some sort of... Cartoon character?
It bothers me to this day. Not just because I dislike the model so much, but because she's not consistently portrayed in the Prime series.
Yup, and even with 50ish characters there's still a ton of characters they can use. Balancing has to be awful like you said though.
Maybe Ridley as a Charizard AND Bowser clone ? 2 Ridleys for the price of one !

Actually just from looking at the pictures posted above, don't you think the facial features of Prime and Prime 2 Samus are the same? It definitely looks like the same facial model to me, except with some minor tweaks perhaps. The shape of the nose, eyes, and mouth are very similar. The only things they definitely changed are the hair and the... art style, I guess? Or lighting effect?
Don't know why they decided to change the stylistic direction of the character in Prime 2, probably to make it look more consistent with what Nintendo had in mind for the future of how Samus should look (ie Brawl).

Yeah, I'm not too big on Metroid, but Metroid Prime really did have the best look for her.

At this point a 50 character roster isn't really out of the question. Lucina really makes me think that outside of Ivysaur and Squirtle there may be no cuts (Snake's inclusion seems almost entirely up to Konami and if they let Nintendo/Namco use him). Yeah we've heard various rumors that have talked about possibly cutting either Ness or Lucas leaning towards Lucas, but if Lucina can get in as a newcomer clone I really don't see much reason to cut any of the "clone" characters from Brawl. That gives us at least 11 more characters for sure (Ness, Lucas, Mr G&W, Meta Knight, Ganondorf, Ice Climbers, Rob, Wario, Falco, Wolf, and Jigglypuff) and we know for sure we have at least 2 newcomers left based upon Sakurai's comments that there are a few newcomer videos left (probably 2-3).
We're currently at 36 slots/38 movesets, adding in the 11 unconfirmed Brawl vets brings us to 47 slots/49 movesets, then adding even just 2 newcomers brings us to 49 slots/51 movesets. 49 with a random would actually make a nice even 10 by 5 grid. This also assumes that Mewtwo doesn't come back and that there are no more newcomers then those that will be shown in trailers. Unless Sakurai is going to go cut happy with the Brawl vets the odds of us having over 50 move sets is really good.

Why stop there? Ridley is such a BIG character you could probably make an argument that he could use any character moveset as a clone and be good with it.
yeah... that seems about right. the model looks almost the same but they changed the art style. it's kinda weird.

I'm suggesting the pill as a purely cosmetic change to Mario's fireball.
And yeah, the neutral B would be tricky but if they managed to make Captain Falcon's moveset work for Ganondorf I'm sure they can find an alternative to fire breath.

I love Captain Falcon's facial expressions and darker complexion. His features look thuggish and exaggerated, making him resemble Judge Dredd more than he already did, and helping to set him apart from the boyish anime faces everywhere else.
Also, Falcon and Lucina are the One True Pair. What we didn't see in the trailer is Lucina got her daddy to go after him because he was hitting on Palutena earlier.
This would be an absolutely fantastic reveal trailer. Just a quick montage of all the previous reveal trailers shot at slightly different angles revealing that Snake was there the whole time. Like he was actually camouflaged as one of the Pokeball Pokemon during Greninja's reveal trailer or hiding behind one of the columns at the Arena Ferox in Robin/Lucina's trailer. And then it ends with a Codec call.
That Palutena crashes.
This one's free, Sakurai!
Better yet: Snake pops out from under Palutena's skirt.

It would be easier to say that it could be down between King Rool and Dixie Kong; and Ridley, Medusa or Dark Pit. We will see when we get the game, but I think DLC leak should be out of the window because third leak and fourth leak are unstable for my opinion.
Yeah, that's true. Other company that could DO that is Capcom and Square-Enix but again they haven't start working on Capcom All Stars yet!

I just want to point out how redeemed horizon is, basically everyone thought that lucina would be a alt at the most, but horizon kept the faith, and then out of nowhere, his never give up attitude paid off.

Takamaru, Isaac, Ridley, Shulk, and Unique moveset Ganondorf are the 5 newcomers I want most at this point.
That said even with the Gematsu leak in question I'm still worried that Shulk and a Rhythm Heaven character are the only remaining newcomers left. Yes he was wrong about Chrom, but Lucina and Robin are both FE:A characters like Chrom, and even without the Gematsu leak I felt pretty confident in a FE:A character along with a new Pokemon character. way back when we knew we'd first see the game at e3 2013.
Until we get a non Shulk or Rhythm Heaven newcomer and a non clone newcomer (feel Dark Pit may end up as a newcomer) I'm still only expecting them to keep my expectations in check.
There is a very real possibility that the gematsu leak being "blown right out" may cause quiet a few people to set themselves up for more disappointment.

With Smash Amiibos being a thing I feel like DLC is going to happen, after all it's kind of a double win for Nintendo.
Popular characters who weren't in Smash Bros get made/released later as DLC -> people buy that -> release an amiibo for that character -> people go out and buy it.
And heck if unlocking DLC is tied to purchasing Amiibos that creates further reason for people to buy the things, helps to promote long term sales of Amiibos and people to buy more then just the 1 or 2 for their favorite character.

On the flip side, the worst feeling in the world is when you are literally one character inclusion away from jackpot, as in never caring about another Smash roster again so long as these guys are tenured, your shot has enough going for them that they should be in consideration, and being within the last bunch of character reveals. Seriously I have my:

Red Mage: Robin
Black Mage: Palutena
Ninja: Greninja

I'm very fond of the extra detailing going on with the Samurai Warriors incarnation, but I just love the quaint late 80s-early 90s animation style in the original Murasame Castle look. Also less realism/srs business.
I seriously love how much crossover SmashGAF has with Marvel/MarvelGAF sometimes. :lol
Military Samus would be a really cool Zero Suit alt. Also, I am totally down for Hyrule Warriors alts for the Zelda cast. Every single alt they've done has been great. Hell, the standard Hero Scarf Link and Queen Zelda looks are some of the best looks those characters have ever had.

In terms of DLC I only expect it to be used for characters sakurai didnt have the time to finish yet and some balancing improvements, especially when it gets to WiiU's release.
