Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

This just reminded me...

We could still get Impa as a Sheik clone. Impa is the only Zelda character besides already deconfirmed Tingle that would make sense.

Unless they're really going with Toon Zelda...

I'd rather they saved Impa for the next Smash as a fully fleshed-out character - her appearances in Skyward Sword and Hyrule Warriors have enough unique material that it would be a waste to relegate her to clone status. I'd love it if they could incorporate Tetra as a Sheik clone, though.

Lucina being a clone isn't that bad...

We've currently got 12 new unique characters with very diverse move-sets, including the Mii Fighters as their own character. And more to come probably.

64 had 11 unique characters, Melee had 8, Brawl had 15, so Smash 4 is doing pretty well for itself.

I think it's that so far everything we've seen of her (which admittively isn't a lot) suggests that she's a clone of the bare minimum. I'm one of those who loves clones no matter what as long as the differences are identifiable and numerous in how they play, no matter how similar the design is or the animations and I'm a bit disappointed if the only difference is the hurtbox on the sword.

But again, we really don't much oustside of that.

I want to hold it once just to see how it feels.

I think you are overreacting. And Nintendo is very aware of it. The Project M team goes out their way to make sure they don't reach into Smash 4's bag. Making the Brawl disc worth playing only helps Nintendo out, not hurts them.

And no, it's nothing like emulation.

Might have phrased it wrong, but this is what I intended to say.

When the VC games for 3DS were revealed to have a save state, some people complained about how it was only one when there had been emulators running them for so-and-so years. I might be focusing too much on my personal experience and not on a larger picture, because it wasn't seen as a big deal.

But it got me thinking; there's a lot of people that use Project M as a basis for what they want in Smash, and when it turns out to not be what will happen they discard it and go back to the Mod. It just seems...kinda short sighted to me, to stay with it while the rest of the community is getting ready for the fourth generation of Smash (I don't think it's unfair to say that Project M is squared in the Melee Generation, since they sought out to be a sequel, rather than a successor like Brawl was.).

THIS IS ALL PURELY SUBJECTIVE AND BASED ON MY OPINONS. I'm not saying it's wrong to like Project M or hate Brawl, I just do think that sometimes people underestimate the radically different parameters that the game and the mod underwent.

I noticed that the last few on his list were clearly not very highly requested fan-favs, and I thought it was odd and hypocritical for Sakurai to add Chrom. Now that Robin and Lucina are confirmed it makes it easier to see that fan request are being met and Sakurai hasn't lost his mind.

I don't get what you're saying...

How was it odd and hypocritical? Chrom was requested just as much as Lucina, and probably more than Robin (which most speculation rosters I saw simply called "My Unit").

Chorus Men is the only odd choice that wasn't requested a bunch. Lots of people wanted Shulk too.

He was wrong on 3 accounts, he was wrong with the FE A rep, AND the amount of FE A reps, he was wrong with Shulk being 100%, its clear that he probably only has a vague idea of the characters or made up stuff to compliment what he did have, judging by his "Say hello to Shulk for me" garbage he seems like the type to make some things up to watch the chaos.

People are also expecting some kind of retro and I was snooping around Smashboards and apparently there was an image of a posing action figure in the seiza samurai position. Several people remembered it, but Sakurai deleted it, and only it out of the other figure posing images he has up, one also was in a stance that little mac takes.
but chrom is highly popular :T and i dont get the whole bit with it being hypocritical or odd that sakurai adds chrom?

also i think an RH rep and a xenoblade rep would be super cool tho :V

Speaking of the n64 controller, I never knew it was supposed to be held by the middle grip lol. never had any issues holding it the wrong way.

Fair enough. I wouldn't hate an anime look,I just don't like the pristine Barbie pin up model look. She's basically become Nintendos version of a sex symbol and she was more respectable to me before that.

Other M didn't help.
I see what you mean but at the same time the game since the original was rewarding the player with her in a bikini at the end of the game.

We've had Dark Link, Dark Toon Link, Dark Samus, Dark Pit, Shadow Mario, Mr L, Shadow Queen Peach, Black Yoshi, and Shadow Diddy Kong, honestly Dark Meta Knight and Dark Kirby don't really seem that weird. At the rate Nintendo's going you could potentially make an entire fighting game out of the dark/evil versions of characters.
Don't forget Cosmic Witch which was essentially Dark Rosalina and SA-X. Wolf initially may as well have been evil Fox as well. Pokemon XD also introduced Shadow Pokemon.

While im not a fan of "shadow/dark/black character" and find it incredibly lazy, I will say Dark Samus and Dark Pit were pulled off well.

Honestly I could see Impa being a newcomer for Zelda in the next Smash Bros game, assuming her unique moveset in Hyrule Warriors gets brought over into Zelda WiiU or another future Zelda game. I've felt she'd be perfect DLC material since they first revealed her for Hyrule Warriors
I wouldnt really want her moveset to be based on Hyrule Warriors. Sure it could have some influence but I felt her Hyrule Warriors incarnation isnt very true to how she is in the other Zelda titles even though Im happy that she's playable and like her incarnation.
True, though it still has felt a bit weird to me. But yeah, I don't see people like Ghirahim or Demise making it. The only ones that ever felt possible have been Impa and Tetra since they've been in a few iterations.

After this whole Lucina thing I've actually been thinking of other clones they could add, and I could potentially see them pulling Impa in playing like Shiek.
If Impa was in the game, I'd be okay if she shared similar traits to Sheik but I hope she wouldnt be a straight clone. She could use shadow powers since she is a sage in a few titles. She could also use some of the moves she used in SS like that force field she puts up against Ghirahim. However, certain things like Sheik's b-up could stay the same.

trunks doesn't use a katana

sasuke does, though

guys i think sasuke is confirmed

Sasuke?

I'd be okay with that.

On the Project M alt costumes topic, if SSB4 shares some costumes with Project M, it'd be very stupid of anybody to think that Sakurai is copying them. Considering the stuff that gets into the games, they probably have a ridiculous archive of information about every character and don't need to look at fan mods to get ideas.

It'd be interesting if Lucina's similarity in role to Roy meant we got some more spiritual successors to the cut Melee clones; like Riolu,
Mew
or Plusle & Minun filling the baby Pokemon niche or Paper Mario as a Mario clone. They're not the most original characters, but if the rest of the roster's already done, they'd be fun additions.

Why do I feel like sakurai just pulled some death note shit on the gematsu leaker...smoked him out with the fake out Lucina trailer instead of shulk and disproving chrome all at once...

Wait what? How long ago was this?

Sorry I'm too lazy to read through this thread, but am I the only one who thinks both Lucina's official artwork and her character model don't look that great or really look like Lucina? They did an awesome job in the intro video, so it's not like they weren't aware of how she looks... they just made her lose any girlishness she had in FE:A imo =(.

I wonder if Metroid's 30th anniversary will be celebrated in any way. :-(

I dunno. She looks kinda bland.
What's funny was that I just now realised that peach avatar comes from the same pic as where I just changed my avatar.
TMI dood

They were probably going for a more realistic look in her official render. I think it's fine.
