Fighting Games Weekly | July 14-20 | Bracket Resets Full of Tears (of Joy?)

i've heard that opinion quite a bit. they must have somehow blocked out the memories of getting your guard bar cranked by shadow k, taken to the corner, getting opened up for 75% of your life leading into an unblockable reset.

i really wonder how the airdasher community is gonna wind up in the coming year or so. it may be my own ignorance but i see the BB and P4a communities as largely fluid and somewhat separate from the GG community and i'm not sure i see them giving up their game of the moment (BBCP which is actually really good, i never thought i'd say that about a BB game.) for Xrd. if anything i expect a big part of arcsys players to move on to the newer persona game. gonna be some divisions imo but i guess thats doesnt have to be a bad thing.

Ah, man. I'd have said hi, but I didn't want to lose my seat in Tekken grand finals. I was in the back row and thought "is that Q?" Didn't want to stare, but you were gone not too long after.

It's fine haha, my friend and I didn't eat yet that day so we bailed out to go get lunch.

Bridget is the most popular character no one plays I have ever seen, so very strange. Do people find him that charming?

Lots of people play with Bridget - offline. Match videos alone prove that, there's always some random Bridget players popping up in a set or two. Not a lot of them end up on stream at tourneys, though, which is actually something that's been nagging at me for a couple of days. It's weird.

Dont most people say reload is the best version of GG anyway?

Only people who are really, really defensive about buying the PC version off of GOG, or those who favor characters who were strong in that one.
It's like people who say Slash was the best because they really liked Anji, but slightly less sad.

good....good

I would of walked up and grab his ass and if it wasn't Q I be like "my bad bro" if it was I grab it again. You never PM me either that week I was out in Vegas told you I had bottle service all weekend!

My friend would have probably clocked you, seeing how I was sitting down you'd have to put some effort into that ass grab and well yeah.

I think I remember hearing N-O saying he doesn't play Xrd because he thinks some of the stuff is dumb and making it bad.

If true, I wouldn't be surprised if other GG vets thought that in Japan.

Faust damage, chipp teleport cancels, and Eddie spawning where you last put drills are all dumb as fuck. But that's just my opinion :P

I think the biggest issue is one of dilution. You have GG Xrd, P4AU, AH3:LM and UNIEL all getting releases in the next year (and all are coming out in the US within the next six months except UNIEL).,That's not counting something like the Dengeki Bunko fighter, and you need to factor in people that keep playing BB. That's a lot of games, and while I think everyone can make educated guesses on how the games will break out, there are still a bunch of unknowns.

from a distance Blitz Shield and of course Danger Time look incredibly dumb even if they are a kinda harmless.

the kind of SC2 GI game of chicken that Blitz Shield leads seems pretty....well, dumb.

Yeah, "airdashers" will be more spread out just by virtue of having more recent games to choose from.

Still need to order my copy of UNIEL for this month...

We'll get to the point where we can sustain more than one game at a time at least. I'm not optimistic but with the numbers and attention we're getting it'll happen eventually.

I do wish we had mroe players who can efficiently play multiple games at a time, like LK and BKen do for P4U/BB.

Yeahh, pretty much lol. YRCs and also those silly restands (which will probably be removed eventually) need to get tweaked. I love GG, so I'll still play it. It'll be interesting to see if I'll enjoy it more than BBCP though.

I feel bad that out of all these games, I probably won't be getting AH3, even though I really want to.

And here's hoping that Evo will have more than one anime/air dash fighter next year.

I know we like to lump all airdashers together, but for the most part, the active players are mostly specialists.
The only ones with significant crossover are BlazBlue and Persona 4 Arena. Even Guilty Gear's a bit more distinct. It could change with Guilty Gear Xrd, but it seems more of the BlazBlue players are more hyped for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax.

Sure, some players play all of them really well, but they're mostly a separate pools.

My bad, I tototally forgot the week you were in town. And then I saw you mention that you were at the pool and at Drais and was like DOH I fogot to hit this guy up! I'd have definitely hit you up if not for my having been so forgetful. My plates been pretty full. Sounds like you did it big though! What was the highlight for you and your peeps?

I think Persona community is its own thing- as Persona has a huge casual following that is separate from the compettive crowd. Also, it's a simpler game to get into so it draws people in. (no idea if Ultimax will do this with Ultra being so strong right now though)

I could see BB vs GG getting pretty nasty in the same way 3S/CVS2 vs SF4 was back in 09.

I feel really bad for Love Max- that game is going to get ignored by the masses due to Ultimax and Xrd, and even UNIEL. Just horrible timing.

Some real scumbags out there, stealing Lapchi's cash during a gaming suite.

https://twitter.com/lapchiduong/status/489240505080102912

Damn, that sucks. Fucked up of whoever did that :\

Had to reschedule, the original date didn't work out, its in 3 months from now. Right now I'm studying for it too right after working 9-4, I feel your pain...

Edit:

Damn scumbag who stole it but Lap Chi has gotta be smarter than that, you're letting a bunch of strangers in your room to play. Strangers.

I did that and I'm pretty sure none of my stuff was taken. Can't find one of my Evo fans but I'm pretty sure I misplaced it, and worse comes to worse, there's always our other one.

But I get what you mean, you're playing a dangerous game by doing that in a way. Especially if you're a bit known to have some deep pockets. No excuse for it, whoever did that is a piece of shit.

Yeah someone jacked 40 out of my wallet, seth looked like he wanted to choke a bitch when I told him

That sucks too, sorry to hear that Q :\

There isn't perfect crossover (or even close to it), but there's way more than there is from, say, UMvC3 or Tekken players. :p I know locally, the anime FG players are roughly split into ArcSys games (GG/BB/P4A) and non-ArcSys games (MB/AH). But even then, most of the players in one group have at least some experience with the games in the other group.

We'll get to the point where we can sustain more than one game at a time at least. I'm not optimistic but with the numbers and attention we're getting it'll happen eventually.

It's just an issue of size -- and if the community gets big enough to support multiple games, the communities will start going on their own anyway.

As for people playing multiple games well... it's hard, and the people that do it are just talented (or have way too much time on their hands). I've tried learning multiple fighting games (across multiple sub-genres) and that's a ton of effort, even if you have a lot of prior experience. Asking newer players to do that is just crazy (unless they're SonicFox).

And here's hoping that Evo will have more than one anime/air dash fighter next year.
It's possible, but I think it really comes down to support. If multiple games can draw players, then it's likely. If, for example, Xrd, P4U2 and UNIEL all have 100+ players at NEC or another big major... they have one hell of a decision to make.

Everything.

Thursday - Fly in - >drank -> Encore
Friday - Eat > Drais > eat > EDC
Sat - Tao > EDC (ate on the go...and from here on out...)
Sun - Daylight > EDC
Monday - Wet Republic > Marquee

Next year I woudn't be shocked if KOF gets replaced for a 2nd anime fighter if the anime-FGC has 2 games that are doing well. I think Ultimax has the best shot due to being on 360.

Empire Arcadia sounds like it was a fucking homeless shelter.

he complains that he's the only one educated enough to run EMP

now he complains when people in EMP for not keeping up with things

so he noticed he had too much on his plate, but didn't want to let anyone else pick up the slack.

That is kind of how I always thought of it. A bunch of dudes rooming in a small place scrounging up money to go on. Maybe once the Empire dies, the FGC can rise above poverty status.
Triforce (and I'm inclined to believe him) is saying on stream right now everyone who ended up in the house was kicked out of their homes.

And only 3 people were helping pay for the bills (I forgot who they were, but he named them initially).

Says EMP is about $30k in debt.
