At least, that's how I always imagine it is. I know I would have said some dumb stuff if I had a platform like Miiverse at that age. Heck, I probably said some things dumb enough to rival some of the Miiverse stuff even when I was a teenager on GameFAQs.

High chance would be Chrom, but it doesn't make sense as they can just make Chrom as Marth's clone instead of Lucina. Probably some other character *cough* Shulk *cough*

That's all pretty interesting. I wonder what all of this Lucina business means for Dark Pit, if anything. I could see him being a proper alt, but I really don't see him being repurposed into a full character, especially if it took a character being cut for Lucina (a much more visually distinct character) to be included on her own.

So it sounds like Lucina is the only clone and is only a clone because Chrom got cut last minute. And also that Marth won't have any alt skins because his became a character.

It's probably a situation like Zelda Kirby's headdress. A more obfuscated reference, which looks better when implemented.

So if #2 is true and it was Chrom the one that was cut, does this mean that the Gematsu might still be true? For all we know the emails given to Sal Romano were based off an early design doc or something simialr, which would explain the "Pokemon from X/Y" mention and now Chrom.

It would be strange for them to cut Chrom, move him into Robin's FS, and stick in a Marth clone in his place. I'd bet Chrom was planned for Robin's FS from the very beginning, and that "certain character" is someone totally different. Who knows - depending on how old the Gematsu leak's information is, it could have been Shulk or Chorus Men.
Oh, and Lucina was a Marth skin? Somewhere, Beelzebufo is laughing right now.

Sure, but they say they planned him and I assume started working on him, especially if it's Chrom (see the very detailed model), then abruptly they cut him? Weird.
There was a long and dumb argument about whether or not Zero was, in fact, Megaman.

But anyway, it's kind of funny, every time the leak runs into a bump in the road, there's Sakurai out of no where dropping tidbits of development that explain the bumps.
First "Pokemon from X/Y" being vague, was used as a reason to doubt the leak, until we learned later that was Greninja's development name
Now with Chrom not being in and Lucina and Robin instead, we find out Chrom was likely cut very late and replaced with Lucina as a clone. Either the leaker had no idea about Robin, or didn't mention him/her like he didn't Rosalina.
I think the leak is entirely true and there's now a good excuse for the Fire Emblem misstep.

Working on parsing through it. Seems like the translation is right, first line says that Lucina was originally a color variation for Marth.
Things do seem to add up to Chrom being the removed character though, huh? The trailer kinda hints towards it, Chrom has a model that appears in the game, and the Gematsu leak information. Hm.

At some point Mega Man came up and "Mega Man Zero" was a notable exclusion from the representation. Zero is a Mega Man because it says so in the title.
That was basically the extent of it, but like most things it went on too long.

Well in this case I think it's alright? No images or other stuff. Just a bunch of words, if he rewrote them instead of posting a pic the result would be the same, no?
I don't think of Wolf as a clone because through 64, Melee and Brawl, Wolf was the first time I actually found a spacie enjoyable to play. But clearly that's a personal thing since people apparently play Fox and Falco all the time.
The really weird thing was that some developer had at some point mistakenly called Zero "Mega Man Zero" like it was the name of the character, and this was treated as irrefutable proof. When some dialog from one of the games suggested otherwise, that was dismissed as a mistake.

Obviously Ridley was cut. Sakurai couldn't make it work because he was just too big, so he said hell, I'll just make another Marth Clone, it worked in Melee.
On a more serious note, this would be nice. Odd that they have all those details about her attacks if they are the same as Marth's minus tippers.

It was something to do with debugging IIRC.
It doesn't say they started working on him. It says he was planned and then cut. That happens frequently, especially in Smash Bros. There were seven characters that were cut for time in Brawl, and the same was undoubtedly the case for Melee as well. . Maybe time constraints were an issue. Maybe it was something else.
Maybe Sakurai just realized that Chrom would never be interesting to play as, so they cut him because he's boring and terrible.
But seriously, clones are much quicker and faster to make than unique characters, so Lucina was probably a 'consolation prize' to fatten up the FE representation again without taking too much time off the rest of the development pipeline.

Can only verify the Lucina was originally Marth's alt (colour variation), but not others. Need someone with better Japanese language skills :lol

I'm still curious with certain character being cut. I have a strange feeling that it's not Chrom, so it has to be someone else. Since Sakurai want to fill out the void with Lucina, so I would imagine that DLC characters might not happens?

Or maybe I'm too used to Western Devs BS and that outright honesty now looks weird to me.

Anyhow, we can't say for certain who was cut and I think it'd be dumb to automatically assume it's Chrom. Could've been someone totally different. Could've been Snake until Konami refused to port Ground Zeroes to WiiU. Could've been Simon Belmont. Hell maybe Lucas IS cut in the end but he was initially there (RIP Lucas). Let's not assume that Lucina must have gotten in because the cut character's franchise was Fire Emblem.
