MS: Xbox One June 2014 sales more than double May 2014's sales

That boost doesn't seem too great, but it is June so there aren't any major new releases. Hopefully the sales stay consistent week to week in July and we don't see a big drop off.

What the hell? So he buys a PS4 for better multiplats, then sells it because XB1 has (apparently) better media features, but worse multiplats?

Fickle is the first word that comes to mind.

He had an Xbone, sold it for a PS4, then sold his PS4 for another Xbone.

All I can say is "I wanna see the receipts"

no numbers = no confidence.

Percentages and fractions are for damage control.

Yup. It's all spin. The news is bad.

When is the last time a console got a bump this small after a price drop? Anyone want to sift through NPD and see what's really at the end of the rabbit hole?

Everyone is assuming that they are talking about monthly sales, but could it be weekly? I personally doubt it given that PR is prone to double speak but that would make for a much better June for them.

I didn't read the thread, but doesn't this put X1 around normal levels? Only reason why it did horrible in Msy was because people were waiting for Kinectless, but now that it's here and sales only doubled, it's like nothing happened.

Put it at April level... ~30k per week.

Sounds pretty much terrible to me.
Preemptive press statement for the fact that PS4 is still ahead, <200k sales in 5 weeks month. Probably around 160k units sold with part of the sales from May shifted into June because of the well known price cut in June.
And in the near future the competition has more exclusive games or games with exclusive contents and marketing deals coming (TLOU, Diablo 3 Ultimate Edition and Destiny).
This looks more and more like the PS3 situation which struggled to reach a good position in the US market because of the early missteps and lost mindshare, but at least Sony had european and japanese sales going for them, while for MS this is their biggest market.

Yeah I see this system staying in a big slump until 299. They need a big reason for people to pick up the system and nothing this year seems to be that with the ps4 still there as well.

The problem is it gets compared directly to the ps4.

I think pachter made the estimate that ps4 sold 255k and it had the exact same no release month.

Price parity and your competitor is beating you by 100k in your strongest region is something to worry about.

Xbone will be fine, it just won't be the market leader...anywhere. Biggest thing is that flips the script on MS's gaming strategy, which has been, including the first year of Xbone, to leverage their market advantage to lure external devs into making exclusives. I would imagine those devs will be more tempted to dev for PS4 or ideally both than just the Xbone. Thus the price for external devs just went way way up these last few months for MS.

Which really makes the decision to move Black Tusk to Gears sting, and perhaps was a big sign they can't depend on external devs anymore. So the question becomes where are the original IPs coming from in the future?

Theres only so many publishers and whilst it won't be the case for every title I think theres still a perfectly viable market for exclusive games on Xbox One given a level of support (especially marketing money) that developers might get from Microsoft publishing and funding a title vs third party publishers.

As I said, its not the case for every title nor but if MS pick something up - with a deal that suits both parties a title can still be very successful (EA partners is a good example of what I mean, if you look at how people like Epic and Insomniac went to them for multi platform money and look how the titles amongst many others performed)

They certainly could do with boosting their internal studios though

probably higher.

154 is double... if its really more than double than its anywhere between 154 and 231.
If it was 200k they will say more than 2.5x or something else... it is like when they say over 3 million that means over 3 but less than 3.1.

Pretty much they sold close to 154 than 200.

Went back to the npd May thread...where are we getting the 77k number from? That thread ended with the op not having any numbers for xbox or ps4 (other than ps4 was best selling)

Honestly I feel that if Microsoft was happy with the number they would have stated it. Hiding behind "more than double" just confirms that the new sku did virtually nothing.

200k would be ~2.6 times as much as May's 77k

Doesn't "More than two and a half times May's sales" sound better than double?

Every article about this news that I've seen failed to mention how little the Xbox One sold in May.

To be fair, news outlets don't have any official figures for Xbox One May sales to go by, correct? The only numbers we have are the leaks here. Though I suppose they could have mentioned that Microsoft's standard sales PR statement was missing last month.

Never said it will. Just said I could see it happening.

Yeah, and that's exactly why I said I could possibly see it happening -- MCC on top of holiday deals and bundles. I (again) never said it will outsell the PS4 though.

Oh, well then I guess we'll see. I think their best bet is a MC Bundle, which is probably pretty likely at this point.

You have to search the thread. The OP doesn't get updated with leaked numbers (for obvious reasons).

Man, the console market is rough at the moment.

I'm still not 100% sure whether the generally lacklustre sales for all the consoles so far this 2014 (yeah I'm including the PS4 - in a vacuum it's selling well - but when we're talking about the market as a whole it's pretty underwhelming) is due to the record breaking sales at launch last year, or just because the console market has contracted significantly. At the moment I'm leaning heavily towards the latter.

It contracted because all the casuals that bought the wii moved to phones/tablets

You people are very confident about PS4 winning...
You are not counting the PS4 returns per second.
It's never brought up that NPD simply tracks that a console has gone over the counter, not which way. The PS4 is still tracking higher, but those might just be the many returns from early adopters who have seen the light and bought an Xbox One instead.

If the Wii U did outsell the Xbone, I wonder if Nintendo would make it official and publicly declare the Wii U as the second best selling home console. It would be quite an achievement, but I'm not sure whether they'd want to phrase it that way.

Xbone will be sold in 15+ EU countries in September 5.

Thing is, if those markets were so important to them they'd have been scrambling their arses together to get the console out there soon than 10 months or so later.

They will get a boost (not a big one by any means) in those regions but I don't think it will do that much.

US and UK were the two biggest markets for them, that is what will hurt them more than other markets.

Welp Pack it up sony.

Reggie did say he expects xbox in third place.

XB1 is already being sold in the majority of those countries simply on the gray market or if you're British the grey market

Yes but MS can't give the exact results of sales in EU. There are a lot of NTSC-U consoles in my country and everybody is trying to get a PAL one. If I was an US customer, I would think that "Aha Xbone sold XXX K units in EU. If this was a bad console it couldn't sell that much. I'll buy Xbone"

Wait, for real? I didn't know that
