So a number of things came in the mail.

First, this shiny, gold Smash Bros coin from the Best Buy event, complete with letter:

The coin is legit. Definitely not cheaply made. Cool little collectable right there.

Next, my Japanese 3DS has arrived! Shit said "used" on ebay. I don't know how the Japanese define the word used, but this thing was PRISTINE. No finger prints, scratches, or even d-pad marks on the top screen, which is a problem almost all vanilla 3DS' I've seen have.

It really was like new. If you are looking to play Smash 3DS early, I suggest you pick up a "used" Japanese 3DS off ebay now before everyone starts to and the prices on them increase. This one cost me $135 with shipping.

I think I'm going to download Yokai Watch to kill time between now and September. Prepare yourself, Japanese eshop.

I'll be flying to San Diego on Thursday for Comic Con. I plan to play a metric fuckload of Smash 3DS during the next week, and hopefully some more Smash U after the tournament, time permitting. I will post impressions when I get back, and I'd to actually use all the characters in both versions. Judging from last year, Comic Con will have multiple setups for each game. Last year, I played 3D World twice, Bayonetta 2, Link Between Worlds, Wind Waker HD... all in the time it took me to play Smash U once at Best Buy. Getting my hands on most characters shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully they bring Gamecube controllers, too.

I also plan on taking that 3DS tournament. I don't give a damn what rules they use. I don't give a damn if I have to camp the entire match. I'M WINNING FOR GAF.

Conceptually good, but I hate wallpapers with logos.

A lot of the background icons have bits of them cut off from when he pasted another one below it, probably because he took them from the smash wiki which has a massive amount of empty space around each icon.

If you're downloading something off the eshop, mind letting me know if you notice any increase/decrease in how long it takes, since you're downloading it off the japanese one? I'm planning on doing the same thing and want to make sure it won't be hard to do.

Just pick sheik and string tilts and back airs all day, most people there will not know what to do against it.

Don't worry, the Smogon rules mean very little since the official rule set uses doubles.

For official format yeah, but for singles most use them

I sometimes do VGC but honestly I just can't do them, it's too fast paced, bulky offense and stall or really tough to do in them

And I find VGC's banning of really stupid and random legendareies like the pixies really annoying. Why are some select few legendaries allowed but something so NOT broken like Celebi, Jirachi, Victini, etc. not allowed

Hell, even frailer legendaries like Darkrai without Dark Void, Shaymin-Sky really aren't broken either, not when there are two opponents to take care of. And I dislike the 4 pokemon from your team only rule, etc, etc.

Plus you don't get many physical tournaments made with smogon rules, but a whole bunch of tournaments set online using Pokemon Showdown or online that are pretty big

Sure. For what its worth, I downloaded a trailer and it downloaded pretty damn fast. I'll test on a full game (Yokai Watch) soon.

Huh, I was told I had to wait until I picked up my Pre-order in order to get that, now I'm a bit jealous

Best of luck with the 3DS tourny

Dat White 3DS. It really look nice. I hope that you have fun with Japanese 3DS. I'm going to save those money for Amiibos instead.

Good luck with 3DS tournament, and I probably would see you on stream if they are going to shown everything.

... I actually straight up forgot that items were a thing that existed for a minute there.

Yeah.

If you want an advantage, Anthony, play Brawl or Project M with the default classic controller/pro settings, except set grab to the L button. Should help get you somewhat used to the layout.

I find it very hard to believe that FE would get two more reps just because the last game sold well whilst DK gets no new reps despite the last two games being much more popular and better selling. DK is either going to get K. Rool or Dixie.

DKCR sold well, but Tropical Freeze seems to be a disappointment. The later seems to be way too new to influence this Smash bros line up though.

I guess, but if we're ignoring DKTF, then the last DKC game was still massively successful.

Also Retro should have given Sakurai their fur shader, DK looks shit in smash compared to TF.

Looking forward to your impressions.

Since the Japanese version of Smash for the 3DS is being released in early September, the 3DS build of the game that will be used next week at Comic Con will likely be quite close to the final build.

I think that the fact that it's close to release means it's even less likely for them to make, polish and localise a new demo, easier to just use the E3 demo.

Good luck at the tourney! Hope you kick some ass with Sheik

It definitely looks a lot better than his Smash model, but the framerate probably couldn't be maintained with 4 DKs using it, plus items, stage hazards, bosses and such.

They might use E3 demo

Not worth it for me.

I can wait, but good on you Anth0ny and have fun at the tourney(that coin looks sexay), probably won't be here around that time--at least till after the game releases in the US.

and have an embarrassing SD off a Final Smash?

nah :P

Can't you cancel out of the FS in Brawl? I know you can in PM, but I thought you could as well in Brawl

Edit:

ITT: People who didn't learn how to B cancel Marth's Critical Hit.

Also ITT: People who didn't learn to abuse the gigantic lingering hit box on a early canceled Critical Hit.

That's what I was thinking of, it's not even 'pro-level strats' it's a simple "Oh shit, I'm gonna miss, better hit B"

ITT: Marth fanboy in denial that Fox is a better suggestion due to his superior Final Smash

:P

(also while you can cancel, something tells me people miss under pressure, also 3DS)

Rosalina needs that pimpin' 3D World Fire Flower look or a Maneko Suit. Agreed on the Strikers stuff though.

Remember, Sheik's grenade will draw your opponents in. It will absolutely fuck everyone up.

I never really got why Pokemon Stadium is a "Fox stage", simply killing off the top faster isn't much when the platform setup is terrible (at least against Marth, since this is the matchup being discussed).

People were evaluating the stage from only one angle. The article mentions this. I think the reason it's favorable to offensive Fox matchups is because Fox has the ability to tech chase into uair. With M2K however you need to play defensively or at least very carefully because M2K has a very strong punish game. The fewer recovery options Mang0 has to recover on Pokemon Stadium translated into more punish opportunities for M2K which is why we see Mango perform worse on the stage.

That coin is beautiful. Damn.

Also, get a ton of 3DS coverage too!

This post makes me happy.

P.S: High five, I own an Ice White OG 3DS. Damn nice white.

Out of curiosity, assuming the 3DS version doesn't have voice chat, would anyone in here be interested in getting groups together for Skype or whatever group voice chat service would work best? We did it for Mario Kart 8 (which we need to again) and it worked really well. With less people in Smash per game, it would only work better.
