Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Out of curiosity, assuming the 3DS version doesn't have voice chat, would anyone in here be interested in getting groups together for Skype or whatever group voice chat service would work best? We did it for Mario Kart 8 (which we need to again) and it worked really well. With less people in Smash per game, it would only work better.

I doubt either versions will have voice support.

I'll happily Skype whilst kicking your ass- I mean, playing with you. :P

I thought people didn't really want voice chat anyway?

So a number of things came in the mail.

First, this shiny, gold Smash Bros coin from the Best Buy event, complete with letter:

The coin is legit. Definitely not cheaply made. Cool little collectable right there.

Next, my Japanese 3DS has arrived! Shit said "used" on ebay. I don't know how the Japanese define the word used, but this thing was PRISTINE. No finger prints, scratches, or even d-pad marks on the top screen, which is a problem almost all vanilla 3DS' I've seen have.

It really was like new. If you are looking to play Smash 3DS early, I suggest you pick up a "used" Japanese 3DS off ebay now before everyone starts to and the prices on them increase. This one cost me $135 with shipping.

I think I'm going to download Yokai Watch to kill time between now and September. Prepare yourself, Japanese eshop.

I'll be flying to San Diego on Thursday for Comic Con. I plan to play a metric fuckload of Smash 3DS during the next week, and hopefully some more Smash U after the tournament, time permitting. I will post impressions when I get back, and I'd to actually use all the characters in both versions. Judging from last year, Comic Con will have multiple setups for each game. Last year, I played 3D World twice, Bayonetta 2, Link Between Worlds, Wind Waker HD... all in the time it took me to play Smash U once at Best Buy. Getting my hands on most characters shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully they bring Gamecube controllers, too.

I also plan on taking that 3DS tournament. I don't give a damn what rules they use. I don't give a damn if I have to camp the entire match. I'M WINNING FOR GAF.

nice goodies

godspeed good fellow. and if you weren't already planning on using her, use Sheik because she's hella busted if the e3/best buy impressions still hold in this next version

for the motherland, for GAF

Might be cool if enough people want to.

I'm sticking with IRC which is better option for me .

Sweet! I'll definitely try and organize some stuff closer to. launch.

For strangers, I couldn't care less, but I'll be really annoyed if there's no voice chat with friends on the Wii U version.

I doubt they'll do any voice chat options. It's Nintendo and their weird safety fascination.

Also, decided the 3DS tourney I'm planning will be 3 stocks, 5 minutes.

You (or someone with your exact same username) used to make those, right?

Mhm

I hated how people would use usage statistics as an infallible tier list (because really, that's all they are: OU, UU, etc... they're based on usage statistics). Basically, I wanted convince people to look at Pokemon based on their own merits. Back in the day, you'd always run into people who'd say "Oh X is OU, therefore this Pokemon is good" or "Y is UU, you shouldn't use it" but I feel like that mentality has since died down. With the viability ranking thread, you can get a sense of how good a Pokemon is, totally divorced from what tier they may be.

EX: Despite being in RU, Amoongus is a solid Pokemon in OU

Actually, now that I think about it, I hope the Wii U version gets Awakening songs. It's the best soundtrack in the series. But with this whole "handheld stuff on handheld/console stuff on console", I'm not so sure.

I thought that only applies to the stages? Pretty bummer if that's applies to songs too

ok let's talk about Smash tiers instead /s

Totally wishful thinking, but I wish there was a playlist editor where you could just pick the songs you wanted to hear on any stage.

I'd be devastated if Id~Purpose was only on the 3DS version.

There's no reason for songs to be exclusive to the 3DS version. Wii U has enough space on the discs to fit the 2 songs from each stage. Even songs like the Tomodachi stage could be applied to Pilotwings for example.

That'd be cool, then Battlefield and Final Destination could have unique soundtracks for each tournament. It's a shame Sakurai didn't also make a Battlefield version of every stage as well, platforms add variety

I'm going to guess all songs on 3DS will remain on 3DS.

Gotta keep them unique, you know?

Just a toggle on the menu would be nice. "Platforms: On/Off"

Tough call. Not sure if I'd place 9/10 or 13 higher in terms of OST. If it is divided into handheld/console, at least you're still getting great FE music.

Then again, it just occurred to me: Isn't the Kalos Elite 4 a stage in the Wii U version? That would mean that the whole handheld/console thing isn't a hard and fast rule.

Might be cool if enough people want to.
As long as we have four people, that's enough for me!

They at least had lobby voice chat in MK8, but I'm not expecting much. :(

Also, I'll totally join in the tournament if there's still space.

Awakening's soundtrack is great, but mostly in arrangement and actual ingame implementation - I wouldn't really say it's the strongest in the series compositionally speaking.

Hmmm, I might agree with this. I guess when it comes down to songs I'd actually want to listen to in smash, though, a lot of Awakening's songs come to mind.

I'd like to see what they could do with arranging POR/RD tracks*. Them doing a take on Against the Black Knight would be incredible.

*Or any Gamecube game, really. The only GC arrangements I remember in Brawl were Luigi's Mansion, Legendary Air Ride Machine, and a couple of Pikmin songs.

Good luck Anthony! I hope you take the whole tournament! I wasn't able to make it to a best but to try out the demo (there was only one best but in my whole state playing the demo). Can't wait to get all of your impressions for the 3DS version, I bought a 2DS for my birthday specifically for smash (although I'm playing through FE:A and I'm super hyped for Lucina and Robin now).
