Would have loved a Charizard/Mewtwo trailer, but if he has to be paired up with a newcomer I'm sure they'll come up with something dope. I'm still getting over Ivysaur, one of the most creative characters in Brawl, being cut. And I'll of course miss Squirtle

Yeah, it would be so strange for most of us because we would have Smash 3DS Import OT, 3DS/WiiU daily Thread and Black out Thread. We will work it out when we are getting close to the release date.
I dunno if it would be character reveal or not. Strangely enough Shulk would work very well for Comic Con-Vibe.

Who's taking out anybody? Ness gets a moveset actually representative of his character, we get to retain the old one via Paula, and keep Mother 3 representation via Lucas and Kumatora(!) alts respectively.
Sounds pretty good to me.

What worries me about Mewtwo coming back is that he was considered "replaced" by Lucario. At least according to the phrasing of the "Dragoon Leak" from the Brawl pre-release.
We speculate that the Forbidden 7 were all characters deliberately in development at some point. But we also know that Smash 4's development began by porting over Brawl, and Brawl may have begun by moving over assets from Melee. Granted some Melee characters are missing, but data could have been ported or deleted selectively.
If Sakurai felt that Lucario filled the same position that Mewtwo did, he may feel the same way now. I think most people would agree that Mewtwo didn't really "work" in Melee and to reintroduce him the same way would be a waste of time.
So Mewtwo would need to be redesigned from the ground up, even if he kept some of his original qualities. But such a conscious decision like that would mean Sakurai would need to decide Mewtwo represented something unique or could perform a role distinct from Lucario and Greninja.
You can effortlessly form a case for Mewtwo's inclusion, but we all know what it comes down to.

What does it matter that Ness's moveset isn't perfectly true to the Ness of Earthbound? It's representative of the series, which is the whole point. In Smash, Ness isn't just Ness; he represents the entire Earthbound series (along with Lucas, of course.)

Because it's not representative of the Ness himself. Ness and Lucas's moveset in Smash are a complete embellishment. Justifying their current moveset is like justifying having Charizard use Hydro Pump if he were the only Pokemon rep (it represents Pokemon!). I seriously challenge the notion that either of PSI boys have movesets that represent the series. Where is PK Rockin/Love, a.k.a their signature skills?
The reason why Robin is acceptable and Ness/Lucas aren't is because the former has a single embellishment while the latter 2 have a fabricated moveset.

Every. single. one. of Lucas's special moves belong to Kumatora. A Kumatora alt would be perfectly acceptable.

Lucas uses PK Love during his Up Smash and Down Smash. It's represented by the hexagons.

Given the leftover data we have, Mewtwo was intended to be released up until the last moment. He has more leftover data than any of the other characters, including an empty Wiimote selection noise, and has obviously been dropped fairly close to the end of development.
People constantly claim Lucario has "replaced" Mewtwo, or for some reason call him a clone, solely based on the fact they're both Pokemon with a similar neutral B. But that's as far as their similarities go. Plus, Lucario has a really big role in the SSE, which we know is where the majority of Brawl's development time went to. This means Lucario was, by no means, considered a minor addition to beef up the roster or something.
It is much more likely that it was Sonic who replaced Mewtwo - after all, he and all of the assets he brought to the game were last minute additions. Everything about Sonic - his moveset, his stage, the music used in it, his SSE cutscene - felt rushed and last minute. It's a pretty easy conclusion to make that, after deciding to put Sonic into the game, they stopped working on Mewtwo (who was probably the last character they worked on who was left unfinished), and started working on Sonic instead.
Or perhaps Sakurai and his team thought they might be able to finish Mewtwo before the end of the deadline, but couldn't, so they entirely dropped him from the roster.
In one interview, Sakurai mentioned that it is difficult to work with Gamefreak/Pokemon Company, because they're very specific in how the Pokemon are represented, which also could be the reason why Mewtwo was the last character to be worked on before ultimately getting the axe.
I'm pretty sure that if Mewtwo were to return, though, he would get essentially the same moveset as in Melee.
I don't think it's good enough. The hexagon PSI effect is represented in several of his attacks. I'd much rather it be an actual move.
But who the protagonist tho.
Also... ya know normals and smash attacks and stuff, jumps movement grabs.

Three special moves and a Final Smash isn't a whole move set. None of Ness' standard attacks feel out of character, and even PK Fire/Thunder/Magnet/Starstorm seem sensible enough. They're not at all aesthetically jarring or unbefitting.
And that Hydro Pump hypothetical doesn't make any sense. Obviously a fire Pokémon like Charizard isn't going to use Hydro Pump. A better example would be Mewtwo having a psychic attack that it can't actually learn... which wouldn't be that big of a deal. Pikachu's neutral B isn't even a real Pokémon attack (outside of the TCG), but it still fits him and shouldn't be removed.
Kumatora swinging a stick + using hexagons for some of her normals would be less of an embellishment than Lucas stealing all of Kumatora's specials.
It would be easy to justify too:
"Lucas taught Kumatora how to use PK Love / swing a stick"
PS: Lucas stole the Rope Snake from Duster as well.

I didn't mean JUST to prove the leak wrong and troll the fans a little bit but rather an amusing little benefit on the side. I would think the MAIN purpose would be to surprise players who thought everything was known about the roster already. And to keep the hype train going.
It would KINDA like what MvC 3 did with Jill and Shuma except it'd be free and long after a previous release.
Otherwise, like I said before, I think Sakurai would prefer announcing the characters himself via trailers than have people fund out about it via import impressions on the internet.

Glad to hear there may be a few combos too. I'm sure it's going to be good. This and Mario Maker are my next Day 1 purchases. I'd get Bayonetta and Zelda straight away too if I were a bigger fan.

I can see your point with the Charizard example, but I think the difference is that giving a water move to what is clearly a fire-based character is a blatant contradiction; even someone who knew nothing about Pokemon could see that doesn't make sense. But it would be fine to give Charizard other fire moves that he couldn't actually learn in any Pokemon game, because it would still make sense. None of Ness's specials appear out of place; he's a psychic kid with psychic powers. And, as others have pointed out, Ness has several normals that are true to his character.
And, to be honest, I don't consider giving Robin Nosferatu an "embellishment" at all, since Robin really can learn dark magic in Awakening if you class him appropriately.
