PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | July 2014

Has anyone tested how far you can play your PS4 on Vita through internet remote play?

Here's my conundrum: The Destiny Beta, if you play at a certain time on July 26th you get an item unlocked for when the full game comes out. However, on that day I'll be flying from my home on the east coast, all the way to the other side of Canada, on the west coast.

If I leave my PS4 in sleep mode, do you think I'll be able to connect to it via hotel wi-fi across the continent? Or is the distance too far?

try to connect to it once you're at friends house or a local place like a mcdonalds. If you can do it there you should be able to do it in the hotel.

EDIT: Buy uhh....Persona 4 Ultimax when it comes out...I haven't been alot of things new.

I know my remote play works over the internet. I've done it from a couple towns over and it worked fine, I'm just wondering if the distance of the entire country would make a difference.

It'll probably make a difference in responsiveness to controls, but it should still work. Well, assuming the hotel's WiFi is good.

Okay. Good to know. I don't care how responsive it is, as long as I can just sign in and then travel to "The Tower" in the game. (Which only requires me to go through a few menus)

For now. Part of me thinks SCEA might delay the physical version until the R&C movie comes out. Of course, it wouldn't surprise me if it's just intended for DD-only.

Sony's recent decisions regarding what gets released physically for Vita is very odd.

Ratchet gets a physical in Europe, but digital in NA.
Freedom Wars is gonna be physical in NA, digital in Europe.
Oreshika 2 is digital in Europe, not sure about NA.
PS Vita Pets was physical in Europe, digital in NA.

Sonic should be pleased; Ratchet & Clank Collection for Vita due out this week: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/07/20/the-drop-new-playstation-games-for-7222014/#sf3769235

YES :D! Guess that ESRB rating really did mean something :). With EU buyers saying the collection was solid on Vita, I would love to check this out when it comes latter this week :).

I hope it has Cross-Buy support for US (to compensate for lack of a retail release; the Drop only stated that it has a digital release but not a retail one). I will get much latter on if it isn't Cross-Buy, but its great it is finally here :D. Ratchet 3 on the go man....that is something to be happy about XD!

Yup.

So how are the ports exactly? Are they straight up good or are they "good"? I've heard they aren't bad, at least.

I've read that they're no Jak & Daxter, but the games are still running at half the frame rate they were on PS2. They're subnative res too.

Based on my short trial and on other players' playthroughs, all three games are solid 30fps. All three games have different flaws:

- Ratchet and Clank 1 has major sound glitches and a slightly noticeable lag on inputs

- Ratchet and Clank 2 crashes sometimes when going to a minor planet such as Thug's battlesphere or Giant Clank's fights(nothing gamebreaking and apparently(?) happens with physical copies only)

- Ratchet and Clank 3's multiplayer has been dropped.

"Big" "hardcore" games get a retail release in NA but not in EU.

Casual/kids oriented games get a retail release in EU but not in NA, following SCEE's will to chase the casual/kids market

Yup.

They are solid ports but the collection quality itself is between the Jak Collection and Sly Collection, if that makes sense :l.

Meaning, the games run well at 30FPS and run close (not at but close) to Native Res. The games have compressed cut-scenes like GOW and Sly Collections had but with the Ratchet Collection, while they aren't full screen, some of them run in-game, making it look nice :).

The controls for the original Ratchet are great (outside of the Hoverboard; two of the tricks are mapped to the rear touch pad) with some very slight input lag. With Ratchet 2, the game has a control set up similar to Ratchet 1 but has the strafing mapped to the top-right of the rear touch pad. If you have a grip, then it isn't an issue at all, but it is worth pointing out as many hate the rear touch pad.

Ratchet 3 controls the same as Ratchet 2 but you also have the option to play the game in 3rd Person Shooter Mode (Lock-Strafe as called in the menus). This makes the triggers deal with shooting and jumping while the right stick is used for aiming and the rear touch pad (I think?) deals with crouching and 1st Person Aiming. Sounds like it isn't bad with a grip.

The games have some audio bugs (with Ratchet 1 suffering the most from it; levels have 1 track playing on lop when they should dynamically change) but it is okay.

Solid ports from what I've heard :D.

Hmmm...I think strafe being on the back touch might kill the game for me guys. And hearing about input lag (however slight) in the first game is disappointing.

Thanks though!

Wow, so it really is digital only here. Glad that I imported it.

They're pretty good ports btw. They are subnative and 30fps but they still play well and look great, input lag was never an issue and I didn't even notice it when I wasn't looking for it (maybe this will be a problem for others though) and rear touch strafing works a lot better than I thought it would. There are some really weird crashes in Ratchet 2 though, but I remember reading someone saying that those problems were only in the physical copies or something, so yeah... hope you guys don't have any problems.

Guess my guess a while back was right XD; who would have thought?

I'm just glad the games are coming to US :D. I love Ratchet 3 and having that on the go is just really, really awesome to have :).

I wonder why we Vita owners are selling with so little... If the PS3 or PS4 got a port like that, Sony would be crucified to no end until they fixed it. They do it on Vita, they just ignore the complaints to a point where most consumers won't bother to complain anymore and accept them as they are.

Stockholm syndrome

Stockholm syndrome

No other explanation. I'm an avid Vita gamer, with over 100 Vita games, but that's all the more reason why I'm not getting any of the dreadful HD ports from Sony, even if they're bearable. Only the Sly collection manages to do a decent job for the Vita.

....You didn't play the Ratchet FFA port....did you X(? That was......one of the worse Vita ports out there; really low resolution, horrid frame rate, shitty controls....it was just bad :(.

THEN we got the Jak Collection (though there are real reasons WHY it was that bad.....still man :().

With the Vita, while it really is stupid and downright shameful from Sony, we can't expect much from them :l. So when they DO a decent job (God of War Collection), solid job (Ratchet Collection) or good job (Sly Collection), even though it isn't a big deal, we should just be pleased they didn't do a crappy job.

After 8 years of PS3 I suppose Playstation fans are used to crappy ports.

An over rated game

Booooo

I'm enjoying it so far.

I've only played mainline DoD (1 & 3) and never dove into Nier so the game is quite something so far.

As I understand, Nier Replicant is a continuation of one of the endings of DoD

Yeah, they share the same universe. I know there's some connections between DoD3 and Nier, but I haven't the latter in a while.

I'm curious, what did you think of DoD3?

So between all the rewards points that I have. In a couple of weeks I should be getting $10 from Best Buy, and $5 from Sony. I'll use it on Child of Light or something. Or Driveclub. Who knows what the future holds ?!

Because I want as many of my favorite games as possible on this system and I understand that it's just a portable system, not a pocket-sized PC, PS2 or PS3 capable of 1:1 equivalence with every game. I don't want 10 different consoles and a PC, I want a sick handheld with as comprehensive a library as possible. If I have to choose between no ports at all, or the ports we're getting + more like them, I'll choose the latter.

Like all the mimetic hate and hyperbole with Vita since day 1, I just wish everyone else would stay out of the way and let the system be what it can be for the people who enjoy it.

They have bugs, they have glitches, they freeze and make you have to restart your Vita. It's not about looking good, it's about barely getting it to work properly. The Vita is more than capable of getting a game without any kind of problem hindering gameplay. Sony is doing a service to people like you who want these games, I get it, but they're doing disservice by making it look like the Vita can barely handle PS2 games like I've read on the internet time after time after time.

I was an LBP creator for 5 years who'd lose weeks worth of work sometimes, and a Fallout 3 & NV addict. Bugs and crashes really mean nothing to me. Would it be preferable to not have them? Sure. Am I still going to choose any ports over no ports? Yes.

Yeah, portability is what sells me on these. I'd rather play a slightly less functional Ratchet and Clank on the go than the full console experience. (Although cross-buy WOULD be preferred...)

I've only now just realized that Persona 4 is rated M
Just checked my copy... My god... It really is M Rated. I mean... It has mature themes and suggestive images and violence... and nudity... sexual themes... and huh... I guess Persona 4 is M Rated.

Have you not played the game?

M rating means 15+, at least here in Australia, seems fair for the content in Persona games and pretty much what you'd expect.

M is 17+ here in the US. Nothing really ever screamed out M to me tbh. Have the digital version so I just always assumed it was T

Oh well it's definitely only M15+ here. There's heaps of sexual references in the demons and personas. Not to mention dead bodies and some content that could be considered disturbing (The room with the noose comes to mind). I think a 15/17+ rating is pretty fair.

I'm glad with Ubi's support for the Vita. Child of Light and soon Tetris Ultimate?
Just the fact that I can get to play Tetris on Vita makes me get a feeling so complicated about their shadier actions/stuff.

hmm that's weird, I was going to link you to the PSP Mini Tetris, but it looks like it's not on the store anymore. That was a staple on my memory card until they announced Tetris Ultimate. If that retail release on amazonuk is actually a physical game I'll be really happy.

I really enjoyed Child of Light. After so many JRPGs in a row, it was really pleasant to play something with a European influence for a change, even if the battle system is still pretty much FF. The gentle difficulty, relatively short running time and whimsical soundtrack were just what I needed after slogging through Demon Gaze and Persona 4 back to back! The dreamlike, fairytale narration was cool too.

More like that please Ubisoft.

The battle system is pretty much lifted right from Grandia isn't it? It was fun, I also appreciated the (Relatively) short play time. Besides which it was just gorgeous.

I have used remote play to my friends ps4 in Maryland and I am in NY. It can go anywhere from perfect to nofuckingway. It can swing wildly and suddenly, but I've also had long segments of perfect play. I think you ought to be able to start the game at least.

Wasn't feeling RPGs this past week so I figured I might as well finally try out Muramasa. TBH I knew it had a lot of fans, but I expected to not really enjoy it as I am not a huge platformer fan.

Well I was wrong and the game is fantastic... wish I tried it sooner, but if anyone else has not, they should give it a shot. The one thing I don't like is the constant map back tracking, but otherwise it is easy to play, but fun and challenging with enough depth to keep you going as well as an interesting story line and quality artwork. A+

Add me to the list of people who loved the Vita Child of Light port. Its a great looking game on my OLED Vita and the difficulty curve was just right for me (I don't really play RPG's so I appreciated the easier difficulty). Really pleased with the game, and the Ubiart engine. I'd love for Valiant Hearts to get a physical release on the Vita as I'd buy that day one as well.

I've moved back to Moto GP 13 now. Its not a pretty game but I really like the way it plays. Its one of my favourite racers for the platform and I'll be getting '14 as soon as I platinum this one.
