Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Nice and colourful, sure.

But all they did was dump the worst Wii U stage with a really god awful stage hazard onto the 3DS.

There's so much MM material. I now wonder what the final stage list will look like. :/

Maybe we'll get lucky and the Wii U Version will have a second Mega Man stage.

Or perhaps Sakurai will channel Mega Man's Boss Rush Room for the Boss All-Star Mode.

As for Takamaru, as I've said before, I've given up hope for him getting in beyond DLC, & have resigned myself to only getting Shulk & a Rhythm Heaven character as the remaining newcomers. Would I be cool with Takamaru getting in, sure, but at this point, I just don't see it happening.
Get ahold of yourself dude. I resigned myself to Chrom a month ago, and we all saw how that turned out.

Pic of the Day: Since I'm obviously going back on the whole "not having identical cross-platform stages" thing, I've decided to put more characters in the Wii U version than the 3DS version. Who cares?! Anything goes at this point. WOOOOOOOOOOOO

Chrom, oddly enough, had the least amount of hard evidence supporting him beyond initial planning. Shulk & the RH character have ample evidence, more so the latter. The only reason we got Lucina is because she started out as a Marth alt.

That "leaked" stages list for 3DS shows SR388, which would be neat. It also shows Section Z. The Wii U Star Fox stage wasn't Section Z. Maybe it'll be a returning classic for both. It would suck for one version to be stuck with a Venom equivalent.
What's the comment? I can't go to sleep until I know.

Also neither the Japanese or English Miiverses have that Wily's Castle picture posted.

I dunno, but I tried loading the Japanese page in Google Translate, and it's hilarious. Proof I should probably go to bed.

I'm actually not too happy about the Yellow Devil on 3DS but I'm happy we can get cross system stages. There are a couple of 3DS Stages I'd like to see on Wii U

More characters are always welcome, and hey - it only makes the WiiU version more attractive :P

It's a little bit slow, the visuals are muddy, and there are a TON of bad stages.

I introduced a friend of mine to Brawl really recently. He's played Smash 64, and had just gotten Melee a few months prior and loved it (his gaming history has only been FPS and Kingdom Hearts for many years) and was playing it a ton. I brought over Brawl so that he could try it, even though I personally don't like it.

His first reactions were "this feels like walking through mud" and basically missed the speed of Melee and how it didn't "flow" as well. We made it a point to play through each and every stage, and we both agreed that there were simply too many stages that were almost unplayable. He even laughed when we tried 75m, saying that he could only laugh since it was so bad.

Now, his experience with Smash in general is obviously limited, but we sunk a good many hours into it, and he still came away with the same views you did. I know that doesn't make it THE stance on Brawl, but still. Those complaints keep popping up for a reason.

You're saying "we haven't seen this yet, so it can't happen, even though it happened for previous games."

If you saw Melee's roster without Ice Climbers and Mr. Game and Watch, you would say the same thing. You're seeing restrictions where there are none.

I already stated in my original post that a new character could be announced that undermines my entire point by mentioning Bubbles. I'm merely making an observation or prediction on what direction Smash 4's roster is taking in comparison to prior games. However, even if such a character was announced it wouldn't change that a majority of the new characters happen to be involved in games released between the Wii era and Smash 4's development.

btw: We're exactly where we were 10 days ago with the post count in OT9.
Hype is slowly getting insane. I don't think OT10 will survive San Diego.

Looking at the Japanese Miiverse, it's very dead.

Sakurai's posts get around 1000 likes and 200ish comments compared to the West with almost tens of thousands of likes.

Also, any comment yet?

Different anecdotal evidence:

Me and my friends didn't care about the lower speed at all, overall liked more stages than in Melee (since all six fun stages from Melee - FD, Battlefield, Temple, Peach's Castle, Corneria, Pokemon Stadium - made it to Brawl anyways) and the increased roster size made for more varied random battles.

That being said we changed over to Brawl+ when it released and then to ProjectM when 3.0 was finished and greatly enjoyed all of them (Brawl+ > ProjectM tho, fuck those moveset changes). We just like Super Smash Bros, I guess :P

"Pic if the day. Today we finished the 3DS version, and I would like to formally announce my retirement. I read all your criticisms about the Wii U version, and have decided to cancel it. Now, every "Super Smash Bros for Wii U" box will instead come with a copy of Super Smash Bros Melee that I have personally scratched with a knife. The 3DS version will have no multiplayer, but only an expansive version of Smash Run. I hate all of you.

All of this my thoughts exactly. loved brawl+

It's happening.

Pic of the day. In general, there are completely different stages in the 3DS and Wii U version, but we made Wily Castle and the special boxing ring available for both versions! We didn't forget the Yellow Devil either. There may be some small differences in the stages, such as the 3DS stage appearing to be during daylight hours.

Finally.

It's up!

EDIT: dammit senor.

It's happening.
The quick and dirty google translation:

"One piece today. Stage another he is prepared at all each 3DS, Wii U in basically, but has been ported to 3DS specially "special ring" and "Wiley base"! Yellow devil also, this street. Etc. are look like a little lunch, I put some differences."

Perfect.

Lol so beaten

My man Sakurai knows what's up!

Finally...so 2 additional common stages confirmed. I wonder if these stages are there to be used for online matches between 3DS and Wii U versions.

Sonic better not get an exclusive 3DS stage or I will riot. Mega Man deserves better, Sakurai!!

On another note, does someone have a link to that height chart Neorice made?

Pretty disappointing that there's no 3DS specific Mega Man stage (or, at least it's not sounding like it). So much material to pull from.

Eh, who knows. The assets look really similar, it wouldn't be hard for them to have added it in to the 3DS as well. I'd be a bit surprised, too, if there's no retro Pac-man stage on the Wii U version.

What stages are we hoping end up being cross-version?
Stages I hope get in both versions:
Pacman Arcade Stage
Pokemon Stadium 1
Dreamland N64
