Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Slightly better version of Bowser's (but it's still tough to hear the beginning). Basically, the gist is that it's an electric guitar variant on the main Mario victory theme. Essentially what Meta Knight's was to the Kirby series.

I'm glad we're seeing at least a couple individual victory themes independent of series, as it was silly that Meta Knight was the only one to end up with one in Brawl. I mean, it's not super important, but it's a nice touch, and would help ease the blow of some carried over victory themes from Brawl for me, personally. Of course, nothing is final, so we'll see how it ends up.

Rayman being dropped because of animosity towards the postponement is the most absurd thing about that leak. And Bandanna Dee is already pretty damn absurd.

Sakurai gets the final say on everything. It could've been just a lack of interest towards Rayman as a new character choice, or the game may have been too far along in development when Ubisoft approached him. Either way, I'd say Rayman getting a trophy is a gesture of good will so I don't think there's any animosity there. It'd be childish to remove a character from the roster over a game delay.

As for Bandana Dee, I don't expect another new character from Kirby to appear in Smash all too soon and probably not for a very long time. Going off recent Kirby games though it seems like Bandana Dee would be the popular pick.

Regarding landing lag on air moves, I liked that idea someone said ages ago of an "on hit L Cancel", where hitting the opponent would half the landing lag on the aerial and allow for better follow up.

Anybody giving the supposed leaker points becuse of Rayman should realized that John Harker (Who does work in the video games industry) told us about Rayman and his non-inclusion as a fighter months ago.

YeH, I did pointed it out many pages ago but no one noticed and kept talking about rumors.

Next up on the rumor mill is: "Sakurai rejected the Master Chief in Smash Bros. because Don Mattrick poured hot coffee on his cat and called it 'flawed messaging.'"

So I was just thinking about Lucy and kinda though it was funny that she is a clone character twice over. A clone within a clone...

Just saying that Lucy was pretty much a clone in her own game too.
I guess my memory of Awakening is starting to fade away.

I know she was impersonating Marth, and she was Chrom's daughter. Did she have animations taken straight from Chrom or something?

Animations based directly on Marth's old battle animations.

Marth's DLC character, ironically, used Lucina's animations.

Seems like an interesting dynamic. If they still don't cancel lag on block though, I don't know. It feels like that could lead to a lot more risk to attacking from the air than shielding or attacking on the ground.

What makes it different or more believable than, say, Gematsu?

The guy is very specific in his info and called stuff like Lucina, saying that Chrom was cut because he played to similarly to the other swordsmen.
So, Chrom was cut "because he played too similarly to the other swordsmen" and replaced with a character who plays almost exactly like the other swordsmen.

And that's the most believable part.

Sakurai did say that he couldn't think of a way to make Chrom especially distinctive amongst the other two blue-haired sword-Lords.

Except he wasn't replaced by Lucina, he was replaced by Robin. Lucina was a happy bonus.

Yeah, I was being sarcastic, the "leak" says Lucina replaced Chrom.

Since HW is leaking in Famitsu, I'm gonna take the lack of Smash scans to mean they're not interesting.

I just realized that if Mewtwo and Jigglypuff were included there would be a nice type advantage/weakness for each of the available Pokemon:

Pikachu:
+ Greninja
+ Charizard

- Lucario

Charizard:
+Lucario

- Greninja

Greninja:
+ Charizard
+ Mewtwo

- Jigglypuff

I was the one who suggested L-cancel on hit and in my writeup about it I said it should lag cancel if you connect with a player or shield and only do the full amount of lag if you completely miss.

If it doesn't cancel on hitting a shield then it removes half of the point of l-cancelling.

Why would Sakurai have Bandana Dee fight Metaknight? Wouldn't it make more sense to have him fight a non Kirby character like Ness or Falco or anyone else really. I'm not talking about the actual gameplay footage but during the cg/anime cinematic. Pac man was the only real exception not shown fighting anyone in cg/anime only shown with cg mr g&w along with cg mario and dk to indicate that he's older then them

Villager trailer had him attacking Mario with his net

Mega man trailer had him fighting mario/link/dk and others

Wft trailer had her attacking Mario/Link/Kirby

Rosalina trailer had kirby crashing into mario kart

Little mac trailer had little mac punching samus after she made fun of his height

Charizard/Greninja had Charizard fighting Mario/Link/Samus/Olimar/Kirby before Greninja interrupted. Pikachu is shown with Charizard but not fighting along side him

Mii fighters had reggie and iwata irl fighting, then iwata pulls out his mario amiibo to turn the tide

Palutena trailer had pit fighting link until she intervened

Pac man had him being revealed as older then mario and dk, same age as mr g&w. His intro while not cg did have emphasis on mario, sonic, and mega man

Robin/Lucina had them fighting Captain falcon

So no we reveal Bandana dee fighting meta knight, even if it is real thats kind of disappointing.

Ok. That would be pretty great then, and a fun shake up from the way things worked in any of the previous games.

I agree that it's extremely suspicious at first glance (especially the toggles; I thought that was dumb as hell) but upon reading more, I feel like there may be more than meets the eye here. Quick recap of the important details (so far):
  • His source is employee who was fired a while ago but is still in contact with some people. Some of his information is current (from contacts), while some may be outdated (from his own experience before being fired).
  • Miahstorm has been constantly replying to people's questions all throughout the thread, and has shown screencaps of the supposed emails he's received. Nowhere near as elusive as Sal is/was.
  • CREDIBILITY: He said in a private message to a mod that Chrom definitely isn't in the game a few days before the Robin reveal. This is pretty bold if fake as Gematsu was still holy at the time. Similarly, he also said that Lucina would be a Marth costume with mask and no-mask varieties. We know that this isn't true now, but it was true at some point in development, and it's pretty specific for a guess. These are the biggest things in his favour right now. EDIT: He also said that Rayman was originally considered but not in the game. This was before the big trophy mindfuck happened. So there's that.
  • He said that Bandanna Dee and Meta Knight would be revealed soon, and then later stated more firmly that they'd be revealed at SDCC. This is what's going to make or break the leak.

Yep, don't really nelieve it, but its far from impossible too.

All of the characters make sense except for Chorus Kids exclusion. Why would RH get two enemies in SR if theres no playable character? Weird.

I love the idea of Chorus Kids, but this leak has lots of good characters that make sense.

K.Rool: Kremlings in SR. Considering how Retro doesn't care for them, this means Sakurai himself added them for a reason. (Could just be Nostalgia tho of course,)
Ridley: Already obvious he's playable. Dat shadow lol. (Its totally going to be other m Ridley as the ultimate rroll tho.)
Sceptile: As already mentioned: Grass Starter to round out the trio, ORAS advertising, and atleast it adds abit more variety than having everything be from the same gen.
Bandana Dee: Sakurai Bias.

So the leak said only two unlockable characters? I guess both newcomers? Did it say which two? I would assume Ridley and K.Rool for maximum hype/they have no game to advertise.

Edit: Also there may not be Bandana Dee Trailer at SSDC, since Sakurai knows about lots of leaks, he me throw a cirveball again...

Also all these characters would have unique movesets too.

I could swear that ShockingAlberto mentioned some similar things previously as well.

Ok. That would be pretty great then, and a fun shake up from the way things worked in any of the previous games.

It fits in with the smash philosophy of simplifying input barriers so that everyone can enjoy those aspects whilst still allowing enough depth for competitive players to get more mileage out of it and allow for the interesting gameplay we all want.

It's not something that would ever happen though, far too good to be true.

I am interested in seeing what (if any) changes are going to be made to the base mechanics from E3, as long as its change for the better and not pre-release-Brawl -> release-Brawl style changes.

So, Chrom was cut "because he played too similarly to the other swordsmen" and replaced with a character who plays almost exactly like the other swordsmen.

Chrom wasn't cut, he never made the roster in the first place. He also wasn't "replaced" by Lucina, he was "replaced" by Robin. Who doesn't play like the other swordsmen at all, which is why was included in the first place.
