Sonic Miiverse page says this:

1. Hints at stages, Green Hill (Confirmed), Chemical Plant, Space Colony Ark

2. Sonic learned the spin dash FROM TAILS?!?

It is weird that they specify those three stages only, if they also said Windy Hill I would've believe it. I can't see Sonic getting more than two new stages anyway.

It hides behind Palutena, and he almost only flees during the battle on the Chaos Vortex.. The Chaos Kin being a coward is pretty much canon

I didn't say it wouldn't
ALSO flee.
Of course it'll do that. But it should also
take control of random players :)

Unpopular opinion, but I'm actually not crazy about Paper Mario as a playable character. I'm a huge huge huge fan of PM as a series, but I am really put off by iterations of characters who are literally just the same person on the roster. I think another character that originated in Paper Mario would be better, imo.

I can get Toon Link, because it makes sense within the lore of the series and he and adult Link aren't the same person. But I don't know why I have such an aversion to Paper Mario. It just bothers me for some reason that it'd literally just be Mario. And I think better characters from the Mario universe could be implemented first.

I'm not rooting against the idea though. Hope all my fellow Paper Mario fans get something good.

As a massive legend of zelda fan, i'd much rather have paper mario than toon link, simply because his moveset SHOULD be more unique than what was given to toon link. Toon link *HAD* potential to be more than a clone (deku leaf, etc), so hopefully paper mario gets the differentiation he deserves.

If he's just a mario clone (same B moves) i'll be rather disappointed. That said, there's no way in hell sakurai would give paper mario FLUDD, so they'll have at least one different move.

Oh, I see.

But it also sounds absurdly broken :p

Not if it's only for a few seconds.

Mario and Paper Mario's personalities are so different anyway that they're barely the same thing. They just dress the same. Paper Mario is way funnier and it's incredible the personality they give him without even make him speak a line.
All that without saying that his moveset could be spectacular to say the least. Three custom moveset, everyone with a different party character (a Goomba, a Koopa/Paratroopa and a Boo maybe?). Holy shit so awesome.

This is me as well, right down to the reasons why I'm fine with multiple Links. Unless they worked in his partners, Paper Mario's just Mario rendered in a different art style to me.

It would suck for him to be a clone but if they worked in hammer stuff or turning into a paper plane that could be pretty cool.

Asking out of curiosity... how many paper mario games have you played? How many have you finished?

Having played and completed all super mario games and then also all paper mario games... they're basically 2 entirely different people sharing the same name. To me anyway. They act differently, they behave differently, the way they fight is entirely different. They're not even close, at least I don't believe so.

There are so many Paper Mario characters that would be more interesting than Paper Mario.

I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way. Paper Mario himself suffers from:
a) being another version of Mario
b) mute protagonist

surrounded by a lively cast full of personality. I'd much rather see them pick one of the characters that doesn't get representation in the main series and the cast is so awesome and huge it's not like there's a dearth of them to pick from either :o

In theory Toon link could've easily had an interesting and completely seperate moveset from adult link but for some reason they chose not to. I'd rather see one of the many zany supporting cast get some limelight because heck knows Nintendo seems to ignore the series as it is anyhoo :P

Are they announcing anything for the Wii U version yet other then online, new modes, level editor? I really hope they are not going bare bones like the newest Mario Kart.

My unlikely predictions...

I'd love a 59 character roster but that's definitely unlikley, I'd remove Bowser jr., Roy, Lip, Isaac and Paper Mario and add in another Zelda rep and you have something that's pretty likely.

I'm 50/50 on whether chibi-robo will be in though, he did have a new game lately.

Yeah, if I were to make a roster that is a bit more realistic (going to in a bit); I'd cut everyone you listed. Super Smash Flash 2 recently got Chibi-Robo and it made me realize how cool he'd be in Smash.

Was this known about already?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTmHZ4AyHRA

Apparently it says "Boss HP" in the corner. Might be old but I wasn't sure.

Dark Pit seems too alt-y.Canon-wise, the boss is probably
the Chaos Kin, and hoping wise, I'm wanting it to be Hadrs since I doubt he's playable.

Also, a little disappointed in the fact all 4 3DS Mario stages are scrolling, but I'm too busy having Paper Mario hype to care; it's lookin' good!

I think this has been brought up in the past (I'm not totally sure), but it says "残りHP", or "remaining HP". Could mean any number of things, really. Could be the HP for the bridge that we've seen is breakable.

Ok then yeah that's definitely debug text for the bridge, whether that stage actually has a boss on it or not isn't something we can confirm yet though, I definitely think dark pit is going to fly around that stage and shoot things at the players.

If they were to pull a character from the Paper Mario series, I'd rather see Count Bleck as a playable character.

Dapper magic using jerk that can also use paper moves.

Yes please. :D

Adult Link shouldn't have gotten the Boomerang until after Twilight Princess. He didn't use one in Ocarina of Time. Likewise, Young Link shouldn't have gotten the Bow until after The Wind Waker. It would make sense to just give them unique moves, for fun's sake.

I don't know about you guys, but tomorrow I'm going to be talking about nothing but Funky Kong.

Whilst I personally don't think the Links should have massively different specials, considering the specials are the most iconic zelda weapons regardless of if that link used them or not.

I'd prefer it if their normals and smash attacks used the items they used in their own games though.

Skull Hammer side smash, Iron boots down smash, deku leaf uair, that sort of stuff.

*Ahem* Majoras mask would like a word with you. :P

I'll take this opportunity to dump my roster prediction/hope:

Mario
Luigi
Peach
Rosalina & Luma
Bowser
Donkey Kong
Diddy Kong
Yoshi
Wario
Chorus Kids
Villager
Pikmin & Olimar
Shulk

Link
Zelda
Sheik
Ganondorf
Toon Link
Marth
Ike
Robin
Lucina
Ness
Lucas
Ice Climbers
Little Mac

Pikachu
Jigglypuff
Charizard
Mewtwo
Lucario
Greninja
Samus
Zero Suit Samus
Ridley
Fox
Falco
Wolf
Captain Falcon

Kirby
Meta Knight
King Dedede
Pit
Palutena
Mr. Game & Watch
R.O.B.
Wii Fit Trainer
Mii Fighter
Sonic
Mega Man
Pac-Man
RANDOM

Things to note:

- Ridley, Chorus Kids, Shulk are the only remaining newcomers.

- Mewtwo returns.

- Only cut veterans are Snake, Ivysaur, and Squirtle (not happy about it but those are the only ones I see not returning).

- Mii Fighters occupy one slot. I'm not sure this will be how it is but if each type gets its own slot, then 5 rows of 11 for 55 slots.

- 4 Rows of 13 for 51 characters and RANDOM (52 slots)

- 1st Row: Mario Universe, Chorus Kids next to Wario because their universes are closely related, Villager, Olimar, and Shulk grouped together because they're recent big mainstay IPs.

- 2nd Row: Zelda, FE, Mother, Retros

- 3rd Row: Pokemon, Space/Futuristic Franchises (Metroid, Starfox, F-Zero)

- 4th Row: Sakurai's Babies (Kirby, KI), Hardware/WTF Characters (G&W, R.O.B., WFT, Mii Fighters), Third Parties, RANDOM

However, I could see a couple more character being added. This is my conservative guess. If I added more, I would probably say Dixie, maaaaybe Mallo just because the Pushmo series is getting bigger and bigger, and a Zelda rep (Impa?). I think any characters beyond Dixie that aren't on my roster start into territory where it's too hard to tell how likely they are.

Paper Mario has the potential to be a really awesome character though.

He could be a double character, like Ice Climbers, but have switchable partners. For example, he has 5 different partner characters from the Paper Mario series and they attack and influence his special, with down+B being used to change partner.

He could be centered on the paper mechanics, like turning into a plane or a boat.

His moveset could be based on the badges and stickers of his games.

There's so much potential that I would be really pissed if he was in the game and Sakurai made him a Mario clone.

Oh, that Paper Mario stage looks great. Really great.

I hope we have another one (different) for Wii U. After all, there are three Paper Mario games for consoles and just one for portables.

and here is what I could see happening, but highly doubt because I'm not Sakurai. I kept Lip because I'm pretty certain Sakurai likes Panel de Pon.

I'm with ya pal.

Eh, I just can't see Lip being in, nor can I see Mewtwo and K.Rool (or atleast Dixie) not being in, DK has to get a new rep and Sakurai knows Mewtwo is a fan favourite.

This week we already had a new assistant and a new stage. Tomorrow will probably be filler.

A boss would be cool, though. It's time to have a look at them.

It feels weird that you say that you're not crazy about characters that are just iterations of the same character but then say that you are completely fine with Toon Link.

I get the sentiment, I just can't agree with it. Paper Mario has the ability to be a completely fresh addition to the roster, despite the fact that he's another Mario. Toon Link, while he has a different personality, for all intents and purposes is just another Link with the same moveset even.

Think of it less as getting another Mario, and more like getting an entirely different type of fighter. Sure, you could pull someone else from the universe, but I just don't think that makes sense when it's Mario who has all the cool paper-style moves.

I've wanted Paper Mario in Smash for a while. He has enough of his own personality at this point, and could have weapons based more on the rhythm action of the games.
