EA announces Subscription Service for Xbox One ($5/month or $30/year, get game vault)

so you are saying they are going to change the games so you "have" to buy micro transactions?

Thats what that other guy was saying. Not saying they're mandatory, but in the sense that the game won't be very enjoyable in the sense of making games grind so you have to buy new weapons or XP.

This whole generation so far EA and Microsoft have had a uncomfortably close relationship. It's odd that shareholders are not up in arms about this seeing how much money EA is leaving on the table with shunning PS4/Sony gamers.

You have no idea what the inner workings of this deal are and your observations are pure speculation. For all we know EA could have went to Sony with this idea but Sony wanted nothing to do with it because it would compete with PS+ or something and Microsoft did.

Read the update at the bottom of the article. EA doesn't plan on removing games from the vault. I know I know, doesn't plan....

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/...-catalog-games-discounts-early-play-time.aspx

Update: An EA representative tells us that the company has no plans on removing games from The Vault, which means the library of titles available will grow over time. Additionally, if your membership lapses, your progress will be saved should you decide to re-up later.

That's actually cool then. Hope the library becomes compelling then

Well at least...

.....they will let you know, so it's not that terrible. I'm expecting whatever get removed would probably be a very old game that they probably don't have the rights to anymore.
Or they remove the games that are currently played most, so they can sell them to the players that are hooked. 4 weeks notice at least means you have got a decent amount of time to finish a campaign, before they take the game away from you.

Honestly, at the current point of EA's xbox one library, the vault service is better the latter you sub. Since you don't have to worry about missing a game like PS+/GwG.

Let me guess. You need to keep a CC on file with EA and the subscription is set to auto-renewal by default. Then when you want to cancel you have to call a 1-800 number that will then transfer you to the Comcast customer service center for some reason. You'll spend a half hour on hold and then another half hour with the CSR after which you not only didn't get your subscription canceled, but somehow unknowingly signed up for a two-year contract with Comcast as well. The CSR bids you farewell with a $5 credit towards your EA account and you feel much better about yourself.

It mentions you can buy cards for the service at Gamestop.

I only have a PS4 so I can't participate at all but I would wait and see for a while before getting suckered out of 30 dollars. To me it all stands and falls on the quantity and quality of titles on offer in the Vault and their duration of availability, because all the other perks aren't particularly enticing.

Sounds like a decent deal on the face of it. Also it's not mandatory to sign up. So cautious welcome from me, sounds pretty cool.

Have hoped for a Netflix style game sub service foe a while.

Step 1: EA gets you to sub.

Step 2: You play games with microtransactions.

Step 3: You buy microtransactions.

It's a Trojan horse guys.

Pretty much this. I don't see how people are just buying this hook line and sinker. You'd think EAs shenanigans the past few years would merit some skepticism in gamer's eyes.

Quoting previous post for new page. Seriously don't fall for this guys. It plays right into EA's hands.

This is the same company that's shoving ridiculous microtransactions into all their games. How are people just taking this at face value and not questioning it? EA has proven over and over that their priority is squeezing as much money as possible from their customers. This is just yet another way to bleed everyone dry cleverly disguised as a "good value."

If you think they are going to be adding new titles to this on a regular basis you are kidding yourselves. The fact that Titanfall is not included speaks volumes. Don't fall for this crap guys.

I don't get all the cynicism, why get upset about this? It seems like the natural evolution of the EA Sports Season ticket. Don't buy it if you don't find value in it. I personally find it to be a great value and the only games I see them ever removing would be sports games when the shut the online servers off.

I would guess Titanfall is not included because its an EA Partners game and not EA large.

Nah, I don't think they will do that. If this is EA's way of showing that they are above those "Worst Company in America" championships, then they will be very foolish to fall back now when they somewhat have captured positive feedback for this program.

The concern because it's EA I get. The wait and see attitude I completely understand but twisting facts and adding imaginary scenarios based on pixy dust to come up with reasons to be wary is silly.

Well it is EA we are talking about. Everything we have no expected the worst from, has come from them directly. Let's not pretend as if they aren't also notorious for twisting facts. (See. BF4)

This is EA's version of PlayStation Plus

Wonder if other publishers follow suit.

NO reason for EA to restrict this to XB1 unless Microsoft paid for it. Will be interesting to see how that shakes out

Rockstar doing something like this would be godly :o
Especially if they put last gen games

I wanna play bully scholarship edition on my PS4 or Xbox one

Yes Titanfall will not be included.

Man all those subscriptions would add up if you want to have everything !
Amazon Premium
World of Warcraft
PS+
XboxLive
Netflix

now EA ?
...
starting to get potentially heavy !

We are talking about paying five (5) dollars to try it. That's the price of a good milk shake. "Don't fall for it" sounds just like a utter exageration.

The more I think about this, the more I realize that $30 a year to play last year's sports games alone sounds like a decent deal to me. They don't really change much from year to year anyways.

There's something really uncomfortable with these exclusive deals between Microsoft and EA.

How much money has Microsoft given to EA this past year?

And isn't it kinda frightening that Microsoft is VERY DEPENDENT on EA holding up their gaming division?

I mean, from the outside, it looks like Microsoft is paying EA to be a crutch for the Xbox One.

Between this and Titanfall...

Wow 5 days shrunk to 2 hours real quick.

And to those arguing otherwise, how could they not remove these games ever, while continually adding to this vault for the same price? Maybe if they only add games this time of year I suppose..

Then buy them and actually own them. You can probably get all their old sports games per year for cheaper then $30

It's not just MS. Go back and watch the PS4 conference and see how many times their suits mentioned 3rd party partnerships and exclusive content.

Madden 25 is still $25 on Amazon, FIFA is still $40.

It reminds me of Nokia.

MS ones seems like a much bigger commitment, with exclusive titles, timed exclusives, etc.

man, i've always wanted to try the $5 dollar shake from jack rabbit slims.. suck being european sometimes

Five full priced games per year. Aka essentially their entire catalog per year. Or just wait for cheaper discounts if you wait a couple months
And it doesn't include the best games like a Titan Fall. And do people buy all the different sport games each year?

The time thing makes sense for a game like Fifa 5 days is fine where's as dragon age it doesn't make sense to give someone that Long as the could complete it
