EA announces Subscription Service for Xbox One ($5/month or $30/year, get game vault)

I don't have a clue what "missing respectfulness" is, but excuse some of us for not getting excited to play last year's sports games or lesser multiplatform games on our secondary (tertiary?) console.
Show me where exactly I wrote that I have a problem with people not being excited about this one. You clearly don't get my point ... So just don't make a comment on it.

What make you think that every person who owns PS4 and X1? Has PS4 as their main console.

Because there's no discount if you buy fewer than 5 EA games per year and I don't buy 5 EA games per year. And if I want an older game, I'll buy it for much less than $30.

This is coming out this summer and FIFA14 and BF4 are two of the games available. At GameStop, both of them are for sale used at $44 so if I wanted to play both of them today, I would need to shell out $88 for both of them, or, I could just take the $30 sub and get them and the other games they have and will add throughout the year.

Because they'd be stupid not to???

I'm actually amazed at how many of you are for this. This seems entirely worthless and a cash grab but never underestimate gamers, they'll gobble up anything you slide in front of them.

Exactly.

This only reinforces publisher belief that gamers want to drop physical
media. Trust me, if physical media goes obsolete, you'll be screaming
about the DRM rammed down your throats in order to play your *cough* rented *cough*
games.

I have all of them PS4 mains WiiU is the Nintedo (mario/Zelda machine) and the Xbone is the Halo/Forza box. PS4 is everything else and PC is for RTS and MMO's and Steam.

For $30 I get 3 games I'm interested in playing but had no plans to buy at current prices (already own Peggle 2) plus I get %10 off a game I was going to buy anyway (DA:I). Plus whatever else they add to the service in the next year. I only have PvZ and Peggle 2 from EA. I don't mind playing older versions of sports games as I don't buy them anyway even though I enjoy playing them from time to time.

So it's a good deal for me.

The slow death of game ownership continues. Games as a service. Isn't this what all the publishers want to do? I don't like this at all. Boycott EA.
Feel free to boycott EA all you want, but I've been waiting for this for years in the gaming space. I don't need to own games anymore. Rarely do I ever go back to a game after I complete it, unless it's a multiplayer game like Titanfall. I bought Call of Duty Ghosts at launch and hated it after 2 weeks. I barely got $25 for it when I sold it. In my perfect world I would love to pay a flat fee every month and have access to unlimited games that I can play, just like Netflix with movies. If I don't like the game then I just move on to something else. No hassle of running back to the store and trying to return the game or sell it back for a huge loss. No more buyers remorse. This is almost the future I've been waiting for.

Don't mention game fly as an option to me, if I have to wait for my game via mail then it's not the future I want.

Madden, Peggle and Battlefield are all cheaper than $30 right now.

All for $30?
Plus access to upcoming EA games trials before launch.
Plus other EA games later down the line?

FOr 30 dollars a year, that doesnt sound half bad....heck that sounds pretty good.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows this is a glorified rental system. I think you are talking about a crowd of people that wont exist.

Does this mean an end to EA (I know it's just not them) keeping reviews under NDA until launch day? In other words, if a bunch of Gaffers sign up, are we going to get good feedback a week early on their games from people here that sign up?

So probably the thousands of people who don't use their PS4 over their Xbox One are stupid now huh? Wow.

God forbid people choose things like friends, features, exclusives over pixels and performance when choosing their main console.

Just wait until Mass Effect 4 is out (long way off, I know).

So many people will sign up just for the four day access.

Holy shit. I didn't even think of this! You know it's going to happen too.

Lol. Xbone is my main, Ps4 is for the few exclusives that are actually good. I also have a PC and still buy multiplats on Xbone.

No because the trials will have gates. It sounds like for Dragon Age Inquisition we'll get to play the first 2 hours or so of the game and that's about it. Sports games might be more open though since there's no story or campaign things to worry about spoiling.

Pretty much this. I have bought less than 5 EA games in the past 8 years, so I don't see how this would be worth it for ME.

The only way I can see someone thinking this is a terrible thing, are those that are obsessed with "owning" their games.

Because if you think about someone buying an XB1, and then being able to pay $5 to play BF4, Peggle 2, FIFA, and Madden, it's an awesome deal. A one month rental for those games, and it cost you $5.

I loved the "Halo/Forza box comment. Because Halo and Forza are the only good games on the console throughout it's lifetime obviously.

Hope I get in the beta soon. Had to sell my copy of BF4 not too long ago and I'd like to get back into it. I'd also like to play the other three games and try both NHL and Dragon Age before I buy them since they're both series that have liked kicking me in the nuts in the past.

Makes sense, thanks!

That's enough to gauge how decent the controls are, and the general performance.

Would be pretty great if it wasn't EA. I installed Origin because I bought Titanfall on PC and after browsing the store I came to the conclusion that they produce literally nothing I want to spend time or money on these days.
Will buy Mirrors Edge 2 and next Criterion game...

Yea. The nice thing is, they're trials that allow the progress you made to continue on so if you do like it, you could buy it digitally or physically and continue from where you left off.

As someone with a Ps4 and Xbox One I totally disagree with this. I'm maining Xbox One because it's where the games that I want to play are (and the community), and I'm sure there are a lot of people that are in similar shoes. It's definitely not "stupid" to main Xbox One over PS4 if you own both.

man console gamers are suckers. it's like people have been trained over the last couple of years to bohica. if something like this happened at the beginning of the previous gen or earlier, i'm pretty sure people would be rioting

pay for online gaming
pay third parties extra
pay even more for games

then every once in a while comes a guy and complains about how games on steam are so much cheaper and whatnot. well, guess who's to blame for that

it's almost like no one here knows how ea operates too. they're so benevolent. i'm sure they would never screw over the consumer

or maybe the internet is just full of viral marketeers/astroturfers/whatever the fuck they call it these days

There's something really uncomfortable with these exclusive deals between Microsoft and EA.

How much money has Microsoft given to EA this past year?

And isn't it kinda frightening that Microsoft is VERY DEPENDENT on EA holding up their gaming division?

I mean, from the outside, it looks like Microsoft is paying EA to be a crutch for the Xbox One.

Between this and Titanfall...

I can tell how concerned you are.
