So, how does everyone feel about Roy's chances? I mean, he's basically another Lucina, but then again Lucina got in. It also seems odd that there's a "balanced" version of Marth when there's nothing to balance it between. Plus, Roy was intended for Brawl.
That said, I hear Roy isn't super well-liked by people who are into Fire Emblem, and that most of his popularity comes from him being in Melee.

Most of his popularity comes from Melee yes.

I've completed awakening, I've never even played the game Roy was in, don't even know what it was called - I'd much rather get Roy over Lucina. Roy is cool, Lucina a shit.

The number of Zelda characters in this series is so weird. There was only one in 64, then it jumped all the way to five in Melee, and then stayed at five in Brawl. I really hope the trophy theory is real; it'd be great to get another Zelda character
and Ridley
.

The Koopa Crew would be plenty interesting in the pod. It's a fully-animated robot with changing facial expressions, extendable arms, a propeller, the ability to sprout wheels and legs, etc. It can wield punching gloves, bounce on its propeller, fire Bullet Bills, lob Bob-ombs, unleash Mecha-Koopas and Big Steelies, etc. All while Jr. or the Koopalings act goofy inside. I think that's a fair bit more interesting than spinning around in a shell or firing magic from a wand. I mean, sure, that could work, too, but it's not categorically superior to the pod. The Clown Car has plenty of potential, so I could see it working.

That reminds me Dr. Mashirito in Jump Superstars.

Now I want the Koopas on a robot! >(

Brawl's roster numbers are weird, ESPECIALLY if you factor in the cuts.
Mario would have had 5 characters.
Zelda would have had 5 slots, 7 characters.
Pokemon would have had 6 slots, 8 characters, 9 different Pokemon.
Fire Emblem and DK would each have 3 characters (though DK would have only 2 slots).
Personally, I could see Pokemon having the most characters this time. It has the most characters in the series has a whole, is Ninty's second biggest franchise, has by far the most characters of Mario, Zelda, and itself, and unlike Mario, doesn't give its more interesting characters their own spin-off franchises.

Goddamn so many people are down on Shulk. I'm playing thru Xenoblade now and I think he'd be awesome. Yeah he's pretty generic and more "anime" but it would be cool to have him in. The Monado is cool enough on its own for him to get in

Can someone point me to a decent preview or write-up of how the 3DS version plays? Was debating selling my 3DS for a bit but now I figure I will most likely keep it for Smash.

If there weren't so many fire emblem reps and palutena I might be more open to the idea of shulk, otherwise I'd rather have something that's actually visually interesting compared to the rest of the newcomers.

Also, with all of these NSMB stages shown, it's somewhat surprising that the koopa kids aren't a part of any of them.

Yes, shulk is shit, the Koopa Clown Car is a classic mario design and the koopa kids are classic mario villains, I wouldn't want Bowser Jr. outside of the mech.

If he's outside of the mech then that means there won't be Koopa Kid alts due to size differences, if there aren't koopa kid alts then there's no point to the character for me because bowser jr. is shit.

And how are the Koopa Kids + Bowser jr.'s abilities more interesting than all the stuff the koopa clown car can do anyway?

It's more a matter of opinion. I think the Clown Car would be a serious cop out. The idea is kinda sound and I would have to see it in motion to get a feel for it, but the the general thought is still kinda boring. I think Bowser Jr. would be a good representative of what all the kids do in a way, as long as he wasn't just a baby clone of bowser with a wand.

Bowser Jr. would not be a good representative simply because if he's solo and can't have koopa kid alts due to all the model differences, then his moveset should be based on his character and not a representative of what all the kids do, and that's just rubbish.

The KCC allows you to have all 7 koopalings + bowser junior without having to worry about size or hitbox differences, making unique animations for every single one for every single move and making unique specials based on what they do.

Also I still don't see how you can think the KCC is less interesting than a solo Bowser Jr.

I mean, he's just a shit version of the koopalings except he looks way too similar to bowser and his only unique abilities are that he has a paintbrush and pretends to be mario at one point.

The KCC would be the first playable (non-FS) vehicle to be added to the game, it can change into mech, copter, kart and submarine forms, can throw bob-ombs, shoot bullet bills and torpedo teds, has extendable boxing glove hands, spawns mecha-koopas and steel balls. It just sounds fun compared to playing as yet another bi-pedal character in a spiked shell.

And the design is just classic mario, it would be great to have it in the game and I've wanted it for a while.

Also it would practically be the only character that the "starts emitting smoke when at high percentages" thing makes sense on, but that's not a reason for it's inclusion.

Cool your jets dude. I said Opinions, you're not gonna sway me, and I'm not gonna sway you. No sense arguing over a highly unlikely thing anyways.

because they're idiots

they are, after all, the site that locks off sections of the forum for no reason
As far as I know the only areas locked off to users are specific moderator boards, just like every other forum. If you're complaining about the user groups we have little control over that since that is an design limitation and not something we do just to spite people.

As for the rumor itself, not every moderator believes the content is correct despite the endorsement of fellow peers.

He's talking about the backrooms, where only invited members are allowed to discuss tier lists.

Project M Backroom is basically like a devroom, iirc. It's hidden so that they can surprise people with what they work on.
Could be completely wrong, though.

Yeah, this is what the PM Backroom is as far as I remember.

I thought the other Backrooms were just for talking about what the official rulesets should be for the other games and maybe a bit of deliberating on "Official" tier lists, but it's not something that you couldn't discuss elsewhere on the site if you wanted to.

That sounds ridiculous for a single character slot.

Eh, it doesn't sound like as much work as you might think.

They'd all be under the KCC's bubble anyway, so you're not going to be worrying about new hitboxes for each character and they're all so similar that you can reuse a lot of the animations for pushing buttons, levers and pointing, etc. The bulk of unique animations are going to be for the car itsself which can obviously be shared, they can also change the green trim on the KCC to the current koopalings main colour as well as the colour of the bubble and the gloves to differentiate the costumes more if that was a concern.

Just get rid of Shulk, Dark Pit and Dr. Mario and replace them with Ridley, K. Rool and Mewtwo and I'd be ok if that turned out to be the final roster.

Would be a bit disappointed that certain franchises got as many reps as they did instead of adding more characters from no rep franchises, but at least I'd have the characters I want.

That seems like a contradiction.

Backrooms have been dead for years now. They're no longer a thing. The only backroom that exists is the one for staff members and afaik they use that area to joke around and socialize privately or even discuss important matters related to the forum.

PM's "backroom" is the development team and are not housed on Smashboards -- people just have banners on smashboards for it to signify to people who is on the development team and who isn't.

I'm new to the series. I gave Brawl a try for a couple weeks. I bought it on release, but I have no local players and the online play was broken. I'd wait 10 minutes (no exaggeration) per match. When the matches are so short (was it 1.5 minutes or something?), that made online a complete waste of time. Sometimes, I'd never get matched. I don't know if this was just server issues due to a popular game at launch, or if the game just sucked nuts.

Either way, I'm looking forward to this game. I hope it doesn't let me down.

Is there any concrete report that the 3DS version will be running at 60fps with 3D on? I assume so, as anything less would be uncivilized.

Speaking of that, I found this in the official Nintendo list of bankable offences: "Targeting a single player". I don't get that. Isn't the optimal play to target a single player and get them off the stage ASAP so you have one less opponent?

From my experience, Brawl's online play was just terrible.

It's confirmed that the game will run at 60 FPS on 3DS even with 3D on. Assist characters will be animated at 30 FPS, though.

That offense is referring to griefing.

And just remember, the local multiplayer is playable with CPU players.

The game is 60 fps even in 3D, IIRC from the direct

And you can be banned online if you do things like in a 4P game you keep focusing in only one enemy (like just trying to kill the one that dont play well, but always avoid the one that is good)

The Koopalings are vastly inferior to true heir to the Koopa throne and only child of Bowser, Bowser Jr.

I in no way believe Sakurai would combine different characters all together into one slot.

For the new page -- Weiner Whistle shopped my roster. Please note:

This roster is NOT what I believe will happen. Rather, it's an attempt to reconcile the two leading rumors: Gematsu, with Shulk and Chorus Kids, and the current mod-vouched rumor on Smashboards that adds Dr. Mario and Dark Pit as Lucina-style clones, and Koopa Crew (Bowser Jr. or any of the seven Koopalings, riding the Koopa Clown Car, which is the fighter) and Duck Hunt Dog. While I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out false, I could certainly see it working. See my posts on the previous page for all the reasons why. :-)

I simply don't believe this rumor, because of the strange and horrible UI-Design. In Brawl and Melee it was always the case, that the player could freely and without interruption chose his/her character on the Character-Select-Screen. Except there was a rule change, which is important for all players to notice. With the option to go into a different menu to chose your Mii- or DLC-Character, you would interrupt the selection of the other players. This just doesn't fit the overall style of Sakruai's wife.
If you have to make a player specific choose (like changing your costume, your name or team), those were always to find in your Player-Character-Portrait in the bottom of the screen. So that you would not interfere with the other players.
I don't get, why they would change this smart solution with SSB4! I guess, you choose your "Mii" or "DLC-Character" on the Character-Select-Screen and which will open a list of choices on your Player-Character-Portrait. Everything else would go against all the UI-Rules of the series!

I'm playing through The Mystery of Murasame Castle right now. Just beat the first castle, and this game is a lot of fun. It's very fast-paced, but you still need to explore if you want to get new items or pump up your score. By defeating enemies, you can possibly find upgrades such as shurikens, fire balls, or multipliers that let you throw three times the projectiles. You can also deflect shurikens with your sword HOW AWESOME. There are also these samurai enemies that have their swords lowered, yet you cannot kill them with projectiles. You have to get close enough to them so they raise their sword for the attack, and then quickly slice them before they bring their blade down on you. A really cool enemy for a samurai game. There's also an item that lets you turn invisible INVISIBLE

Man... Takamaru would have been so perfect for Smash. I don't get how Sakurai could have played this game and then thought NAH
