Oculus Rift DK2 Thread

I've thus far had a good experience with the Rift, just interested to see if the IPD affects the small amount of uneasiness in some games.

Glasses wearers, is the Rift's IPD tool consistent with PD distance on your prescription?

I placed my DK2 order last night with an end of September estimated delivery. Stoked.

I think it's about time OVR told us what is going on with the next shipment. The first shipment was ready three weeks ago, and they promised it wouldn't be a month between batches. It's almost a month now.

Edit, just saw someone report a newly processed order around 3 PM. IT'S HAPPENING.

Yep. I guess they try to push out some software updates before they ship the next batch. Also eagerly waiting for my 24th March order.

After toying with Dolphin I feel like I need all high level GPU-utilizing emulators to get DK2 love.

Model 2, N64, Dreamcast, PSP, maybe even PS2.

I feel sad it doesn't work properly with me, i tried removing the enhanced filters but i still got this 2D screen filling a part of the 3D space.

Appreciate it. The most uncomfortable part about the demo was not knowing for sure what constituted the "deep" and when I was vulnerable to attack. There was this fear the entire time that I would suddenly be killed. Not that it was less tense once I figured it out. Megalodons don't mess around!
Thanks for making that video (I'm the developer), it's actually the first time a lot of my family/friends get to see it running!

The thing I learned demoing the original version was that if you told people not to go down into the deep the apprehension really put them on edge - the same technique used in horror films I guess. All you have to do is hint at something - a person's imagination does the rest far better than I ever could!

Now I want to play Rez inside the Rift.

Thanks for making such a sweet demo! It's one of the ones I make sure everyone trying the DK2 checks out.

Any plans to expand it into a more fully featured product? I think an Endless Ocean style game would do very well with the hardware.

Just got an email/text alert that Oculus charged my card $322, and an email from Oculus VR saying my pre-order is about to ship.

My order status:
Date: Mar 20, 2014 03:56 AM PDT
Status: Processing: Your order has been checked out for shipping and will be shipped in the next batch. We'll send you a notification once it's shipped.
March 20th order, and it only took a few weeks to get to processing? How long will it be for people ordering a week later?

Just got a notification that my payment went through as well! Ordered at 4:00PM the day pre-orders went up.

Anyone know about how long these have been taking to get delivered? I'm in the US, east coast. Only reason I'm asking is because I'm moving to a new apartment the 14th >.<

If it goes down similar to last time expect it Tues or Wed. NY might be pushing it but I have no clue honestly.

Well, it still seems that a lot of people that ordered on the 19th are pending.
I ordered Mar 19 05:15 PM PDT and still waiting. Haven't heard from any europeans that ordered after 3 PM getting a notification: maybe/hopefully tomorow?

Just got a an update from Oculus, my card has been charged and my order is Pending. I'm on the West Coast of Canada, and ordered around 5:30 PDT on the 19th.

I'm hoping it will be here by the 23rd, as I'm hosting a day of boardgames, and would love to have an Oculus room set up. Am I crazy to hope to have it in my hands in 18 days? What kind of turnaround from Pending > Delivery did the first wave of DK2s have?

PN03 is really cool with the Rift on. If only I could emulate it at full speed.

Have we had confirmation that the broken SDK is the cause of the judder in Elite and DCS? I upgraded my GPU from a 570 to a 770 4gb OC yesterday and still get the judder.. While the 770 isn't top of the line it is good enough to get solid frame rates in DCS and Elite until I move my head and the judder kills me.

I've got a 780Ti and Elite Dangerous still isn't perfectly smooth for me so I'm almost sure the problem isn't hardware related. Hope a new update fixes it.

Thanks for the reply.. I'd figured that too and I'm happy to run on low/medium settings in the mean time to eliminate all judder. I feel the loss of some eye candy is worth it to get it silky smooth.

Just bought my first Eagle last night, had a holy shit moment when I looked over the side of my chair and could see my landing gear, was incredible!

Has anyone had a camera setup where they accidentally end up jarring the camera? I would imagine that could affect the motion slightly.

I imagine there are definitely some software problems though, and I'm looking forward to the next SDK version.

There is a tweet from an Oculus person out there saying they fixed it. Presumably next update.

This makes me happy, thanks! When the issue is resolved I dont think i'll be able to stop playing

I hope you aren't getting the microstutter that I just can't get rid of! Because it's going to affect the game even when the Rift judder issue is fixed.

I want to play Elite so badly. Can't bring myself to do it when I know how much different it feels with a perfectly smooth framerate.

No microstutter for me, just the juddering when moving my head. I used to have slight stutter until I moved my install to my SSD (though that was before the rift arrived)

Only one GTX 770. Happens regardless of graphics options and in-game resolution. Happens in the Rift and on a monitor, in fullscreen or windowed, on a solid state drive or HDD. Even happens when I tested with a GTX 570.

I've tried EVERYTHING but nothing helps.

I have experienced that before in the single player scenarios but it was slight for me.. Hopefully it gets resolved for you in further updates

Hey guys, seriously considering ordering a DK2 in the next few days. Just wondering, what are people's experiences with importing to the UK? I assumed you'd get hit pretty badly with import duty...

The only reward tier is a t-shirt for $5, with $60 international shipping? How are they still running?

every backer of 1$ or more gets the demo, its the closest to rez for the rift... not in art, but in gameplay. have fun!
Looks great, I backed it a few days ago. But $198,000 seems like an absurdly high goal. They only have around $16,500 with 17 days to go? This game is most likely not getting made, at least not from Kickstarter funds. The only way I see it getting closer at all is if it gets a shit ton of promotion in as many places as possible, but I haven't heard any real buzz about it outside a few mentions in Rift threads.

Personally, I hated the fact that you need to use your head to navigate. I know that's the hook of the game, but I would much rather have used a controller.

I just bought Elite dangerous. If you have a rift you need to get this game, if you don't have a rift this game will make you buy one. I just ordered a DK2. :3

From what I know of that game, it sounds like what Star Citizen is supposed to be. Is one of them going to be better than the other? Or are they different enough that they'll stay in their own area of gameplay?

Kind of Different.

But both are looking great for Rift and PC gamers in general. ED is just further along in developement than SC.

Quick impressions of my first try of the rift yesterday....

Setting up cables was easy and quickly done. Used the Config Utility to set up a profile and measure IPD (64.9). The Desk Scene within the utility already blew me away. It felt really immersive, to the point where I expected to be able to touch the desk.

I tried a few demos. Helix was a cool experience and got me a little bit sick. In the Millenium Falcon experience I saw the black smear pretty well.

But what really blew my mind, and sold me on the rift was Elite. Holy fuck was that awesome. The moment it places you in the cockpit and you start to look around...Seeing that my eagle has a glass floor beneath the pilots seat was really cool.

The resolution is a problem with text and distant objects but it's very playable. I got a bit motion sick whenever I flew into a station and moved towards the landing pad. Don't know why exactly.

I think I still need to take some time to find the optimal settings. Chromatic abberation is quite strong though I don't know if I can do anyhting about that. I guess the Rift isn't made for looking around with your eyes :)
I tried wearing glasses and it worked but felt odd. Even with the lense fully extended they still touched. Without glasses is ok but best so far was with contacts. Oh and I have a dead pixel but it's not near the center of the screen so that's ok.

Star Citizen is more ambitous than Elite and I think it hurt the development, at least in the initial stages. Having that much money raised through crowdfunding raises the expectations to a level that will be hard to reach. Technically and graphically it seems on another level though...

Elite seems to have a clear goal in mind (and extension plans, like landing on planets, that will be implemented depending on the success of the game).

Are both of them specifically developed for VR?
