Well no, they didn't publish Ninja Gaiden, that was Tecmo as tecmo owns it. Tecmo just had a deal with MS with DoA and Ninja Gaiden at the time.

One is a game that wouldnt have been made without the help of a publisher due to losing their game in a terrible accident (still coming to X1 and PC btw)

the other is a game that was shown at the Sony conference and now has turned exclusive for no reason at all.

Luckly I have an X1 but I'm pissed I cant get it on PC, which is how I played the first one.

Spoke to many people here at Xbox press conference on Tomb Raider. Official line is that the game is "exclusive on Xbox for holiday 2015."

Unless it is coming to PC, then that is incorrect if MSFT is publishing.

The only certainty is it will not come to a Sony or Nintendo box.

I have both systems, just so I can play exclusives, but there is no way I am buying this.

You have exclusives that are made in house.

You have exclusives, like the recent Sunset Overdrive, where the developer gets to keep control of their product, so staying on one system makes sense.

You have exclusives, like Bayonetta 2, where one of the big companies helps fund the game which would have never been made otherwise.

With all of these I have no problem buying the game and is the reason I own all the major systems.

Then you have crap like this where one company pays to keep the game off other systems. This is complete anti-consumer shit. This is not helping the gamer. This is not creating exciting content for your fans. This is not making me want to support your company by hiring the most talented artist in the industry and giving them a chance to wow me. This is 100% complete mafia bullshit of taking out all competition and leaving me one single choice.

Good I guess? Lare Croft serie is still better and more fun though.

But it's still doesn't make sense. The first one sold more on PS3 with 2..22 millions unit and 1.71 on 360.
It also sold better on PS4 than Xbox one.

Considering that SE was disappointed in the sales of the first one this decision is pretty stupid. Or they got a big huge lump of cash.

Companies are taking the safe route now. A AAA next gen game is a big risk, especially for a shrinking Japanese company.

Yeah if MSFT is publishing, that means this is wrapped up folks (unless you go with the SIGMA idea). It also means that MSFT might be interesting in more then just this one title, like it was theorized by some to go up against UC.

This actually makes a lot of sense now. I know most ps4 gamers would probably choose UC4 over TR if they could only pick one. Maybe SE actually saw that and decided to run with MS. It is still going to cripple TR's sales but my guess is MS will be eating most of the loss rather than SE. Gotta love those deep pockets!

i really don't understand why square would cripple such a well known brand in a popular genre that they just poured tens of millions in to re-energize and re-position for a modern audience by making it exclusive to one platform

Hmm, pretty confusing. From that Xbox Wire link, seems Xbox is publishing it, so in that case, makes sense its exclusive (And hopefully means SE is putting more resources in KH3/FFXV...which SHOULD speed development).

I am not spinning anything (and I am getting a PS4 for that game anyways), but do you really think FROM and Miyazaki would just be sitting around making nothing if Sony hadnt "approached them" for this game? The fact is that they would most probably have continued their agreement with NB and made the game for PC and Xbox-players as well if not Sony had stepped in and given them some benefits that NB wouldnt give. I dont care, I am playing the game on the PS4, but its stupid that people believe these situations really are so different, when they are not.

Consider this:

SE probably feels that Tomb Raider vs Uncharted 4 releasing at the same time on PS4 would be a sales slaughter in favor of UC4. Why not take money from MS for a timed exclusive, then try to pick up PS4 owners after they've already played through UC4? Win/win for SE.

People saying this was a bad deal for SE. Uncharted 4 is what was the bad deal for SE. They were going to get slaughtered in 2015 regardless of timed exclusivity. This way they get to save face and release on PS4 without competition in the same genre.

First of all, TR would have sold really great on all platforms regardless because the first was a hit commercially and critically. I don't think U4, even if it is released in the same month, would have taken sales away from it.

Secondly, there won't be a PS4/PC version shortly afterwards as it looks like MS is publishing the game.

They are exclusive because the XBox 360 is irrelevant in the japanese market and those PS3 exclusives primarily target said japanese market for the grand majority of their sales !

Okay, this kinda sucks. I had very little interest in an Xbox One and I've been pretty happy with being in the Sony camp this gen (owned everything last gen). However, I did love TR and was looking forward to the sequel.

What's surprising to me is that while it was premiered at the Xbox conference during E3, no mention of exclusivity was made. Ergo, the odds that it was at the time exclusive aren't good. If they'd have known, surely they would have said so, it's kind of a megaton. I see tons of people here talking about how Sony didn't feature the game, but that's far from enough to have people read it as being exclusive. The reactions to these news is proof enough that most people assumed it was cross platform, and it probably was.


Might have to get an Xbox One in 2015 after all. Unless it's timed.
