Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

lolalbfz.jpg

Never fails to amuse.

This thread is comedy gold.

Microsoft made a big mistake by supporting a popular franchise and getting exclusive rights to it.

Square Enix are scumbags for being a business and not leaders of the free world.

"I own an Xbox but won't buy this game because it's an exclusive!!!!"

Not really, it's just reading between the lines of every statement which mention that it's an exclusive "on holiday 2015".
The official information is that it is a exclusive game, deal with it. No Xbone, no RotTR.

MSFT is publishing it too, so yeah, I don't see the confusion.

IMO, you are in the denial phase. When that whores off, you'll be in anger phase, and finally in acceptance phase; mind you, they can overlap.

I remember Sleeping Dog and Tomb Raider (2013) made SE in bad financial situation. Then they might not want to back a sequel.

Maybe Sony will get Sleeping Dog 2 as their exclusive...

I'm not arguing this position. I'm just saying, I have now 1 more exclusive I am interested in. Nothing else.

Good for you, frankly no one is going to argue what your subjective tastes are.

I am sure sony will respond and seeing the contrast from this thread to the sony thread will be fascinating when it happens for whatever game it happens with.

I am sure people will continue to use this strawman without providing any evidence of such a case actually existing.

Not alienating my customer base is MUCH more valuable to a franchise then a big momentary sake of Money from MS.

The only way this make any sense for Square is for Microsoft to have paid them for the loss of revenue from not bringing TR to Sony Platform. That would be a LOT of money.

yup, that is what i said, lots of money

The Sony Brand is finally over. Maybe next decade!

It's over, period. Sony lost their last ace, and that's the end of their PS4 hopes and dreams.

It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for PS4. Sony has nothing left, nothing they can reveal today would fix the hole now created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to substantively invest in a PS4. Except if they want to play Bloodborne. Which will also come to XboxOne at some point.

The age of Sony is done.

Well considering that Tomb Raider didnt meet expectations by Square and then they made the DE for the both the PS4 and Xbox One. And now MS is publishing it.

I don't think this is the same "moneyhat" that Neogaf cries from MS all the time.

I am not 100% sure but there might be something else to this.

This is on of those deals a company does for the shareholders. They need money in now, so they scr ew their future. That's the problem with companies having to report every quarter. They begin to focus only on the short term. It's gonna kill 'em in the end.

If MS is hoping to push XB1 sales using TR in the same month as UC4 releases for PS4 then they are beyond delusional.

Every main version of Tomb Raider has come to Windows apart from Rise. Of course it is a scummy move, no PC gamer is going to buy an Xbox One just to play Rise.

The point with exclusives like this aren't always that the game by itself being the selling point but it being part of a larger roster that makes it enticing to a potential customer.

If RotTR comes to PS4 in spring/summer 2016 that seems like a smart move for SE. They get all the marketing and financial help from MS up front, and then RotTR can have it's own window on the PS4 away from Uncharted 4.

Could also backfire... If it comes out and Reviews and players say its shit... well it wont change into uncharted competition a few months later.

Wow. Guys. It's a meme. Even if you don't know the source, the spoiler text is a dead giveaway.

It wasn't in the format we all know and love so I couldn't tell. Combine that with some of the shit I've been reading on here in the past few months and I was 100% convinced it was legit. If it's insincere then hats off for coming up with something that isn't just a copy-paste with replaced words.

Even if it's time exclusive or not. A lot of damage is done to their fans on PlayStation platforms by communicating it that way. Really nobody wins here.

Funny thing I didn't hear this from Xbox fans when Destiny got exclusive content for a year. Maybe Playstation fans are bit too sensitive. You will probably get to play the game in Jan or Feb. It's not that big of deal. Maybe even right after Christmas since it's "Holiday 2015"

Well, I don't have an X1, but now MS kind of forced me to buy one. Isn't this the point of exclusive games?
MS has every right to secure games for their console. I don't care how, why, or from whom they secure games.. All I care about as a gamer is the game itself.

I'm all for securing exclusives. But as others have said, there is a difference between securing exclusives by helping publish the game, backing a new franchise, or completely publishing a title for your own system. But money-hatting a franchise that was cross platform that is a sequel to a new successful reboot, is just BS. Paying money to keep a franchise off other platforms (cutting off an established fan base), is...wrong.

I don't believe in judging others for how they spend their money. If you think this is worth supporting, then all to you on that. But I own an X1, and I really believe these kind of practices are bad and can't justify paying for it.

This sums it up:

This is crap...

I have both systems, just so I can play exclusives, but there is no way I am buying this.

You have exclusives that are made in house.

You have exclusives, like the recent Sunset Overdrive, where the developer gets to keep control of their product, so staying on one system makes sense.

You have exclusives, like Bayonetta 2, where one of the big companies helps fund the game which would have never been made otherwise.

With all of these I have no problem buying the game and is the reason I own all the major systems.

Then you have crap like this where one company pays to keep the game off other systems. This is complete anti-consumer shit. This is not helping the gamer. This is not creating exciting content for your fans. This is not making me want to support your company by hiring the most talented artist in the industry and giving them a chance to wow me. This is 100% complete mafia bullshit of taking out all competition and leaving me one single choice.

fuck you I am not supporting this...

Good business move by MS.

BUT Square-Enix.....uh....um....you guys ok? Y'all really need the cash? They're not even publishing it.

I remember Sleeping Dog and Tomb Raider (2013) made SE in bad financial situation. Then they might not want to back a sequel.

Maybe Sony will get Sleeping Dog 2 as their exclusive...

The sad part is Sleeping Dogs was a really good game and I enjoyed it way more than GTAV. I guess life is cruel with good games not selling.

Anti-consumer?? you mean anti-Sony consumer. All exlusives are paid for, get over it. This is a business and MS is just trying to stay competitive. Nobody made this much of a big deal when Tomb raider moved to PS exclusive back in the day, when the DMC series was PS2 exclusive or when RE4 was believed to be exclusive to GC. 3rd party exclusives is nothing new and there is nothing wrong with the practice. I was already planning on getting this but now that they are only focusing on one platform then its possible that this may a have a positive effect on the quality of the game.

You know it's not coming to PC either. Tomb raider games has ALWAYS been released on PC and Playstation platforms. This is a clear a moneyhat as any.

Hi guys. I don't know if we're still playing the guessing game regarding that, but seeing how they were very quick to mention "HOLIDAY 2015" everytime they mentionned that, timed exclusive is also my guess.

Not that I'd really care, I'm buying a One anyway.

The money hatting accusations are stronk in here.

I'd like to buy a magic crystal ball, and a Gaf Gold membership as well guys. Where'd you get them?

Great strategy, get people interested in your platform by taking multiformat titles hostages.

Not going to work on me though. It's one of these things where I can afford to pay the extra money they now require of me without any problems, but just won't.

Doesn't really matter if it's timed exclusive or not. It's still not the way to go, it just leaves a bad taste

Why are you bringing up something from like twenty years ago? Is that supposed to excuse MS?

MS doesn't need excusing, they're a business making a business move. Unless Sony and Nintendo have to apologize for every 3rd party exclusive they nab by picking up the publishing tab, the vitriol is absurd. Just as it was for TitanFall, Bayonetta, Itagaki's new game, and Bloodbourne..

No, I was simply pointing out that it's particularly ironic with this very franchise. Almost like the DQ 9 and 10 announcements to Nintendo (or the FFXIII announcement to MS), after the original DQ 7 and FF 7 announcements to Sony. It's like a blinding, self-serving ignorance that has people roasting MS over a fire for doing the exact same maneuver (and targeting the exact same franchises) that Sony originally did to propel the Playstation brand.

But please, do continue the tirades. I've got my popcorn.

Funny thing I didn't hear this from Xbox fans when Destiny got exclusive content for a year. Maybe Playstation fans are bit too sensitive. You will probably get to play the game in Jan or Feb. It's not that big of deal.

Are you seriously equating a few armor pices to a full game?

This is simple.

Square wants to release for the holiday.

Sony is releasing Uncharted 4 for Holiday 2015.

Square doesn't want to compete with Uncharted for the same market share they will lose.

Square gets money to keep off PS4, for Holiday 2015, then release ps4 version in March after Uncharted mania dies down.

Makes sense. Free money from MS for timed exclusive, which keeps them from competing against uncharted on the ps4, and excuseable time for pent up demand to finally release it.

Kinda disappointed in this news, I played every recent Tomb Raider on PC since the console versions were usually inferior. So guess I wont be playing this game for a while.

This will only hurt them, both in sales and in reputation.

It's one thing to make a new IP exclusive, but to have a widely multiplatform game suddenly be restricted to one console is a kick in the guts for lifetime TR fans.

I also agree with one of the first comments that as much as MS will be pushing this against Uncharted, it is not a system seller and the masses (it seriously must have been enormous) amounts of cash this cost them will likely prove to be a bad move.

WTF!! is SE thinking? Short term easy cash grab?.

Tomb Raider 2013 rebuild a lot of people hope on the franchise and they probably throw it again under the bus with this decision.

I really hope the game is good and timed exclusive, cause nobody gonna buy it after if it's mediocre.

Just heard. Dont know if it was actually worth the deal for MS and sounds more like they want to have something to go up against uncharted next year

I cant see tomb raider moving the console needle tbh but whatever

Top Bottom
