Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

Good to see bish put the kibosh on the cboat naysaying.

Anyway, I'm not sure I've seen this level of web-wide vitriol since the DRM backlash. It's amazing the amount of negative publicity CD, SE, and MS have managed to buy themselves. Well done all involved, you're the bright lights this industry needs leading it into the future!!

Holy shit :lol

Never? I think that was based on information he saw in the conference. But the power of PS4 made me laugh, i'll enjoy the story just as much on XB1.
while I fully expect the game on ps4 at some point, its possible 'timed exclusive' means it is coming to PC but not ps4 as has so far been the case with DR3, Ryse and TitanFall...

L M A O

This is how Microsoft is going to play the game. They know they need the sales and they know Playstation has a healthy lead so they're going to moneyhat any good potential 3rd party titles in a bid to draw more people to the Xbox camp.

The amount of money to strike this deal must have been huge which makes me wonder instead of moneyhatting 3rd party games how would MS fair funding 1st party exclusives instead.

Has this ever NOT been the game? Look at Call of Duty DLC early access on Xbox almost every year. This isn't a new thing. Destiny gets DLC early on PS4. Both sides do it, don't try to villainize MS.

CBOAT received a 3 day ban for doubling down on Titanfall resolution claims which were proved wrong on release. Looked at in context of his overall track record, his accuracy is fine. Most of the people squawking for his head post E3 couldn't be more transparent if they tried.

As far as this timed exclusivity goes, the writing is on the wall. If Geoff Keighley can't get a straight answer, Andy McNamara from Game Informer says it's timed, along with shinobi and cboat?

Then what in the actual fuck is going on. Im serious.

I'm sure everything that could have been said has already been said, but this really does suck. I can understand when it's something like Bayonetta 2 where the game would not have been made without Nintendo funding the development, but this is a direct sequel to a successful multiplatform (5 platforms!) game. It's just frustrating when a company pays money to make sure that other people don't get to play the game for a certain amount of time.

With that said, this doesn't affect me too much. I'm sure there will be plenty of great games to play Holiday 2015. There's zero chance that Square Enix would give Microsoft control over one of their most popular IPs, so it's 1000% confirmed that this will be coming to PC and PS4 in 2016, so I'll just play it then, or when it's discounted during the Steam summer sale that year.

Still... it really just makes all parties involved look like complete assholes. They have to realize this, right?

What a load of crap from Greenberg:

"We're saying what we said on stage," said Spencer. "In Holiday 2015, Rise of the Tomb Raider will be exclusive to Xbox. That's the comment."

"We've found in certain instances that if we can partner with a [third-party] team when they want to do something special, then we can work with them on their game to help it reach that level that they want to see," he said.

You are talking about DLC. I'm talking about an actual game. Last i checked both Call of Duty's released on playstation and xbox platforms simultaneously as well as Destiny so i don't know what you're on about.

EDIT: For the record, i'm not villianizing anyone. Damned if you state your opinion here sometimes then people get anal.

EDIT: Apologies for the hostile response.

Reactions of angry videogames fanboys online doesn't equal reality.

Dude, information spreads very fast nowadays. Those "angry gamers" have facebook accounts, twitters, stuff that gets their thoughts and feeling out to their friends and family. It can be damaging (See: X1 fiasco)

Completely stupid, everybody know it will eventually show up on PS4 and PC. Nobody will get a XOne because of Tomb Raider.

MS keeps wasting money.

Crystal Dynamics better have got a huge check to make up for the tons of sales they just lost.

The salt, it hurts my eyes!!

They don't really care until it starts hurting their bottom line or significant public perception, such as with the May 2013 Xbox One Reveal Event.

You mean the reality in which more people have PS4s and intend to buy PS4s than Xbox Ones?

Reducing outrage to "angry videogame fanboys" is such a damn tired comment.

Damn, people want reasons to buy an Xbox and they give you some and you blow up. This stuff is hilarious and quite sad at the same time.

LOL DLC?
No one cares about DLC for guns/maps.
This is literally the whole game.
But with the former, you can at least play the game and not buy DLC.

I wonder how Square Enix could justify this. You only get one launch of a game. Limiting that to the Xbox One will just be murder. An eventual Spring 2016 release for PS4 and PC will certainly see much fewer sales than if they released for all platforms at the same time.

There's no way Microsoft could cover that difference and then some in cash to make it worth Square Enix's time and the damage to their brand, could they have?

Moneyhatted timed exclusives are not a reason to buy an Xbox One for anyone with a working brain.

One of the biggest SE franchises doesn't have enough money for development? That's really hard to believe.

Not as hard to believe as claims that the money won't go anywhere meaningful, though.

This, of all games, is exclusive? I think the sheer shock about it is it's an IP more profound on Sny systems, if we're going to look at the whole franchise. Furthermore, this looks like an incredibly strange franchise to be Xbox-exclusive in general, probably because this isn't really a system seller sort of series. It doesn't even seem to be a Bayonetta/Devil's Third case where companies are skipping on the game, leaving a first party to fund it.

Really weird stuff.
