Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

The TR will get more recognition only from Xbox crowd. And delayed games do not sell that well, So they're losing brand recognition from PC and PS crowd.
Xbox crowd and the potential customers who haven't decided to get a console a might get one in during 2015. Certainly delayed games don't sell as good but if the game is good, customers will be there and this time SE can move all their mrketing muscle to make it sell well.

What happens if this game sells more than Infamous:SS, Knack ??

it probably will, considering the install base should be a lot bigger by the time this releases, but believe me, your sarcasm does not get to me, i was asking an honest question, now, go on

Sucks for people with PS4s who were excited for this game, but goes to show how out of touch a lot of Gaffers are when they proclaim that studios like EA wouldn't have signed an exclusivity deal with if they had known about the Xbox One's troubles prior to launch.

Anything can happen, people. Strangely enough, it seems like the Xbox One is still receiving more exclusive support from developers, even though their sales results aren't nearly as good as Sony's.

Read the post above you.

Now, can anyone actually say MS doesn't need to fire their entire marketing department? They somehow manage to turn grabbing a big name exclusive into a confusing mess of PR speak and nonsense. Good job MS

Meh, that's not really MS's fault, taking an existing franchise and making it exclusive can really strike a nerve with a fanbase, especially considering the majority of TR's fanbase was on PlayStation.

If you are truly pissed about this though, boycott them and also do not buy temple of Osiris. But how many people will not be able to do that?

so what happens if this thing bombs on the xbone? whos to blame? MS for paying for the title or SE for being stupid and making it exclusive?

Depends on your idea of "bomb".

I don't think it will bomb. I mean, people think Titanfall bombed and it's sold well over 1 million on Xbox One alone last we heard.

I wouldn't call THAT a bomb. The Xbox One install base should be approaching or be passed 10 million by "Holiday 2015". No way this sells less than 2 million WW LT.

Very surprising move by MS. So we are looking at another garden warfare "delay". Not sure delaying games that was already announced is consumer friendly. If they would have announce this with the game i dont think there would have been so much backlash. Right now it just seem they spent money to stop people for the playing the game for 6 months or whatever on other platforms. Not sure how they will spin this to be positive news. "Yeah you know that game that was already coming to xbone, while you get to play it 6 months before anyone else."

So this is coming to xbone and xbox 360 fall of 2015? Or is this just the xbox one version and 360 version is delay with the other versions?

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/rise-of-the-tomb-raider#fbid=HHvWLE_mOd5

Its still listed for both xbone and x360.

Funny the announcement thread only had like 500 replies.

Then it is a weird deal. I had assumed that the deal was to help with development and advertising cost.

Has there been anyone from either company that has officially stated that this was not the case? I agree that everyone should get the opportunity to play the next TR and that exclusivity in general sucks but I fail to see why everyone is so quick to jump to conclusions that it's money hatting or even the whole "timed" exclusive wording that is given in the misleading thread title.

Konami has been in shitter for past gen they just want make MGS games as it only console game selling well for them. It not out realm fantasy no Silent Hill was going be made and series was pretty much dead.

Also possible Sony funded a re launch of series due to it starting on PSOne. We have no clue at moment reason people not up in arms is because silent hill not fully announced with full PR explaining its release plans

I said "If". As in hypothetical.

Konami has been planning the next Silent Hill since 2012. They asked Kojima to do it. We all knew a new Silent Hill was coming this gen.

So... perhaps they shouldn't have decided to pay money to make themselves look like the bad guys?

I wonder how people felt when Capcom decided to make resident evil exclusive for Gamecube. That was more painful.

Lucky for me I wanted a Gamecube for the exclusive REmake before 4! Even then though the ps2 got RE4 too eventually (and every other system out pretty much!)

This is just so surprising to me because of the fact that the PS4 is selling much better than the other 2 systems! It is clear that SEnix is not concerned with the smaller audience number that comes with exclusivity and is perhaps planning a bigger partnership with them for something. (probably monnney!)

I foresee lots of money to SE and in time, a dual-pack with Rise and maybe FALL of the tomb raider... LOL

If you are truly pissed about this though, boycott them and also do not buy temple of Osiris. But how many people will not be able to do that?

I will lol, Temple of Osiris doesn't look very good, and I am not buying their crap again after this, timed or not.

But like I said before, I will buy Final Fantasy XV!

Dear MS, moneyhat Shemune III. If you r going to spend money on silly things, least be it something useful.

It's not moneyhatting if you're funding game development. Now if Shenmue 3 was independently funded and MS paid for the game not to be on other consoles in active development, then that's a money hat.

Bingo, sans the "smart" part. I'm not totally convinced on that but man has it generated an incredible amount of response, and MUCH more interest and chatter around the game then there would have been otherwise.

Well, looking back at other controversial exclusive decisions such as Resident Evil 4/Zero/REmake, it looks like those worked out well for all the people who got to play them.

I don't see why this will be any different.

Just like Microsoft's DRM policy, right? Especially when it has a negative stigma to it.

This has nothing to do with DRM.

Yep. Simply the talk around this exclusivity timed whatever announcement has generated an obscene amount of interest for the new game.
even if it isn't all positive

Smaller install base? Guess we'll see.

Wow. Well this was completely unexpected. I dont really see how this makes any sense for MS or SE. All it does is obligate MS for marketing costs and (in all likelihood) a massive upfront sunk cost for exclusivity. SE gets cut out of sales on two of the three major platforms including the one that sold 2:1 over their exclusive platform with their last release in the series. It also obviously promotes a significant amount of ill will and disgust with the fan base. All for what exactly? This isn't the kind of title that will sell XB1s. It's basically buying am outrageously expensive cookie for their current user base for them to feel good about. What exactly is the value proposition here for either party? This just seems like a really dumb move on all accounts.

This has nothing to do with DRM.

Of course it doesn't. i was comparing what was considered a "smart decision" because of people's (mostly negative) discussion/reaction to the Tomb Raider announcement to another "smart decision" that generated a lot of discussion such as MS DRM policy.

I am not trying to be sarcastic. I am bringing a honest point here. None of the mid budget exclusives have sold well. People are buying only 3rd party AAA....A games like Watch Dogs, Destiny, COD, FIFA, Madden, GTA etc.

Order 1886 is not going sell well. Same with Sunset Over drive. But we just keep pounding on Titanfall and how stupid Respawn etc. These first party games are low/mid-budget games and they dont need to sell in millions. Sony/MS all know what they are doing. They are just making fillers between the big hitters.

In today's market it has to be a Mega budget game like GTA, AC, COD to sell really well. Smaller games like Wolfenstein, Tombraider etc are not going to sell well on any of the platforms (including PC).

Yep, since FFXIII coming to Xbox 360, heh which was also Square. I would hate to be that person who answers calls at SquareEnix right now.

LOL It's true.

Square-Enix ain't got respect or love for Sony/PlayStation.

I eagerly await the Kingdom Hearts 3 XB1 timed exclusive announcement.

Did you forget the part where Tomb Raider DE sold 7:3 over Xbox One version?

OK. Look, I see where you are coming from but this is not really relevant when there are more appropriate comparisons to be made (all of which were incredibly controversial). Examples include RE4/Zero, FFVII, or even FFXIII going multiplatform, Bayonetta 2, Epic Mickey for starters.

Platform exclusives are a reality, and at least in the case of Tomb Raider here, its only a timed one so it really shouldn't upset people that much. In the end I fully expect the PS4 and PC releases will be better with a bit more time in the oven, so everyone wins in the end.

I only own an xb1 And I really enjoyed the tomb raider reboot and was planning on getting this one. This news is neither good nor bad for me but I've enjoyed the reactions.

If I was a PS4 only owner however I would be extremely disappointed but to me Tomb Raider is not something that would possess me to run out and buy a new console just to play it. However I think between this, MCC, SO, QB, and Halo 5 there is tons of good reasons to pick one up

This is exactly what baffles me, what the fuck are they thinking?

Its clear what they are thinking. MS clearly gave them a lot of money.

Also it was going against UC4 on ps4 if it launch fall of 15. So ms gets something to go against UC4.

Then they launch this game on PS4/PS3/PC/X360? in the "dead" time in 2016.

The only bad thing that could come of this is it bombs on xbone and hurt by bad word of mouth. Then is maybe unlikely we get more tomb raider games.
