Witcher 3 Collector's Edition getting exclusive physical content on XB1 [CDP Comment]

bleh...

I collect collectors editions...I have over 40 different ones. I don't really care about in game stuff when buying them, they are all about the items for my mancave/game room displays.

This is even one of the coolest sounding CE items too, a deck of cards used to play a completely custom game taken straight from the minigame. I wouldve killed for something like this with FF8...

So yea, for someone like me this is pretty devastating. Last time something like this happened was when tomb raider came out for PC digital only. I wanted that CE so bad for the Lara figure. When that happened I just waited and bought the game on a steam sale instead, I guess I'll do the same here.
So buy it on the Xbox if it is about displaying all the extra shit and not about playing the game? I don't understand the issue...

For my part, I think it is really admirable for them to keep in-game parity for all gamers on all platforms when the majority of these threads involve one side or the other justifying why it is okay for their game to have exclusive content that other platforms don't get to play.

Devastating? Really?

As someone that owns neither console, the ridiculous whining has always existed, but the entitlement complexes and frequency of it are definitely feeling like an all time high right now. I don't envy the mods, it's only getting worse for the moment.

This.

Just buy the Xbox version and sell the game.

They're still treating us equally and didn't break the promise of parity, because they meant game parity. Like I said before, The Witcher 2 was already the same thing, so nothing has really changed.
Haven't looked at it this way and jumped too soon to conclusions, you're absolutely right.
If the game content stays the same, regardless of platform or distribution, then I guess this is what really matters and not some cheap plastic or cloth gadgets.
Come to think of it, they even hinted at this a bit in the EUROGAMER article before E3.
EUROGAMER said:
Witcher 3 dev vows: "no exclusive content for any platform"
But teases "marketing cooperation" with platform holder at E3.

They had to issue a statement over a deck of cards and a cloth map

...

Well, that's the bed you make when you call a press conference to present the collectors edition, talk well and long about how everything should be equal for everyone, and this is shown several months later.

Considering how much money they want for these editions, and how badly they want their fans to buy them, it's not strange at all that people who are buying one of these editions for a high price, gets told that they still won't get everything, reacts. A statement is better then answering the same question 200 times on twitter.

Haven't bougt any special editions like these since the one for Sid Meier's Pirates myself though. I have little use for gaming statues. :)

people like collector's editions and physical things for series they love. how is this so hard to understand

Not hard to understand at all, that people whinged so much that the devs felt they had to come out to defend a collectors edition bonus is an embarassment as far as I'm concerned though.

Or maybe, some people are fed up with being lied too by gaming companies. Also, you are paying the same as the XboxOne version, but still get less just because of your platform of choice, so no wonder some people are a bit pissed off.

Oh my god, who cares? It's a clothed map and some card packs you'll never use. Buy them on eBay for 10€ a week after the game lauchned.
Some people seem to enjoy complaining more than gaming

Is this really a big deal? How many % of a games sales comes from CE?

In reality the people this bothers are a small subset of diehard PC players. The problem is that this group are collectors, who in general are OCD about this stuff, and are also probably the biggest fans of the series.

Of all the things I've seen people get wound up by on gaf recently this is by far the most pathetic. I just don't get it.

People are paying the same amount and getting less. Not that hard to understand why they would be upset. Coming into this thread and just shitting on people with legitimate complaints isn't exactly contributing.

MS are paying for those extras to be included.

I fail to see how that really makes that much of a difference when it comes down to a consumer buying the CE on another platform.

I would understand simple disappointment but the hand wringing and use of words like 'devastating' is way over the top in my opinion.

Doesn't matter they spent quite a bit of time talking about how they believe in parity across all platforms. Even if it isn't in game content it still goes against that. Don't get me wrong they are free to do what they want but it's kind of funny that they made such a huge stand on parity and then drop it so easily.

Except that PC version already had plenty of extra content on GOG, that's not avaible on consoles.

I preordered the CE of this game a long time ago for PC, played both Witcher games pretty obsessively and couldn't give less of a shit about a pack of cards.
I just can't get it into my head that people care that much about this stuff. Nobody would ever complain about this with any other game, but the second a developer who goes out of his way to treat customers well does something slightly objectional everybody goes insane. That's what you get for trying to be friendly.

You are buying the CE edition you get the CE edition.
MS have decided to add a little extra to the X1 version at their own cost.
Sound fair to me.

Reading the thread title I figured "eh it's just physical items in a CE, who cares?", but oh boy people care. Lol.
My reaction as well, haha. People talking about CDPR like they was Capcom or some shit, jeeeeez. We're getting a Witcher 3 to an audience far beyond what I'd ever thought possible in between layers of shit franchises, shouldn't that be worth exalting the Geralt one?

My take on this: I want that cheesy statue and artbook but the CE is 140€ for pc and 150€ for PS4 :eek

I can live with or without playing cards, though you can never have enough custom cards. They often have pretty pictures on them!

Microsoft wanted to sweeten the appeal of the Collectors Edition on Xbox so they approached the devs about including some extras which MS is probably paying for.

If this had not happened all collectors editions would just have what they have now. The only thing that's happening here is MS adding value to the Xbox version. Nobody is losing any value because those extra items would have never existed had MS not wanted to make the deal.

They should just rename that xbone edition into "Ultimate xbone limited super collectors edition", so then it would ne totally different from other editions and this faux outrage would be thing of past. MS gives some extra with their edition, so maybe ps and pc guys should make petition to get platform holder to offer something for them.

The people who care about this are the types of people that will spend $150 on a CE of this game. The people who don't care about this aren't. There, that's not too hard to figure out, neh? :p

It still should be said that paying that much for an edition of a game and not getting the same things another platform has of the same edition is all kinds of garbage though, there's not really much in the way anyone can argue that. Now, SMART thing to do here would be to put things on the other platforms CE's too that aren't on the Xbox One's to kind of reach some kind of parity here, but you probably won't be able to now with the precedent for this game set. /shrug

One of those things where I can understand why the company would do it, but it really shouldn't take a great leap of logic to see why people would be upset about it. I don't really buy the PR reasoning of "We're doing this to save the company!" though.

Oh absolutely, but even the Tomb Raider nonsense has gone way overboard. People have a right to dislike the practices, but this shit has been going on since before most of the people here were even born, the level of vitriol directed towards microsoft is pathetically hypocritical and completely over the top. MS is no saint, but neither is any other video game hardware company.

I think one of the reasons people have reacted to the Tomb Raider thing so strongly is over the course of the last console generation paid third party exclusives have started to disappear. It's just way too profitable for publishers to come out cross-platform. Obviously this turned out to be a timed exclusive, but Microsoft deliberately presented it at first as if it were otherwise, and I do think part of the extreme reaction is that it immediately felt like a huge step back.

I don't think anybody wants to go back to the days when platform holders regularly paid to keep third party games out of the hands of other consumers.

I know, right? Getting way, way out of hand. People need to at least try to stop looking at gaming companies as they are charities, and start to look at the reality and how much some companies work to put their GAMING customers first. Seriously, the entitlement... :D

People need to realise this is just the risk of a market of closed environments.
People also need to get away from the must have now whatever. I mean its a cloth.

Sure the few collectors will care but what will MS gain from this? Few will buy an XB1 for this and they just anger collectors on other systems.

It might persuade the few that do care to get it on the Xbox One? Might make the choice easier for some.

No it wouldn't. The reason would just change. Most fans of this franchise are on PC so regardless of how it happens, if another version of the game has more content (ingame or physical, doesn't matter), there will be people that aren't happy.

This has been explained like a million times, and people still fail to understand it. Astonishing.

In an ideal world things like this wouldn't happen, because in an ideal world these devs would probably have unlimited funds. I understand why they do it, but it's still a bummer to those that miss out. A cloth map and a deck of cards may be nonsense to some, but those items can be a big deal to others.

I will say though that this approach (exclusive physical content) is in my opinion the lesser of the two evils, with the other evil being exclusive in-game content. Either way someone is going to get burned, but I'd rather take the hit on physical items than game content.

Platform holders and even retailers don't pay an actual dollar amount to developers for exclusive content but 'encourage' them to do so in exchange for some more exposure of the game?

Gross.

Oddly, I think this'll be a good thing for CDPR. People will get over it and it is unlikely to cost them any sales but it will bring people's expectations down to a more realistic level.

People are paying the same amount and getting less. Not that hard to understand why they would be upset. Coming into this thread and just shitting on people with legitimate complaints isn't exactly contributing.

If MS is basically subsidizing the cost of it, why would they lower the price on the others? That kinda makes the whole thing mute.

My god, are you people who were complaining and shitting on CD/MS happy now?

That statement screams frustration. And I dont blame them.

Actually thats a good point. I dont care but clearly this is affcting the minoity who care the most. I guess its another example of a PR move not working out quite as intended in terms of market reaction.

I'd actually be quite happpy if recent backlashes mark the start of change of atitude to such extras - there are better ways to compete than the direction of little extras by platform or purchase point or additional content.

That's a bit of a bummer. I'd prefer the cards and the cloth map over the figure-statue-thing any day.

Not a big deal tho. They'd just make me a little bit happy and end up sitting on a bottom of a closet anyways.

Sure the few collectors will care but what will MS gain from this? Few will buy an XB1 for this and they just anger collectors on other systems.

My guess is that MS doesn't care what the item is, they care more about being able to attach the word "exclusive" to the ads. So if they are going to help CDPR market the game, they'll boast "exclusive Xbox content" without actually telling you what it is.

I honestly hope that everyone upset with this and those promising to skip this game also doesn't support games that do exclusive in-game content for various platforms. Because that is 100% worse that physical items only the most dedicated of buyers will ever want anyway, due to the absurd pricing of collector editions.

None of it is good for gamers, unless of course, it benefits you directly on the platform you enjoy. In which case a blind eye is turned towards things like this. To condemn one case but not the other, is absolute hypocrisy.

People are paying the same amount and getting less. Not that hard to understand why they would be upset. Coming into this thread and just shitting on people with legitimate complaints isn't exactly contributing.

I agree with this.

I think all copies of Destiny on the PS consoles should be $10 more than the Xbox versions MSRP, for as long as the exclusive content deal lasts. The Xbox version of Evolve should be $10 more because of exclusive content.

I kind of want to play the game on my PS4 but the extras are cool on XBO and I can get a etter price on the XBO version through Best Buy since I am a GCU member. So, I am having trouble deciding which one to get. Does anyone here know if they still have PS4 at 1080p and XBO at 900p? Is that how it's going to release?
