PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

I'm trying to play a downloaded game, not a disc. It's the last of us and when I tried to turn off the internet, that's when it started telling me it can't get my license. If the internet is on it just loads forever and doesn't finish.

I have the same issue with my DL games. We just need to wait for them to fix this shit so that we can get our licenses refreshed.

FBI is investigating:

UPDATE (5:06pm): An SOE rep declined to comment but confirmed that the FBI is investigating the incident.

This incident follows a prolonged PlayStation Network outage that Sony has blamed on a DDOS attack. "Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic," Sony's Sid Shuman wrote on the PlayStation Blog today. "Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed."

I don't know why people are surprised or so against the notion that XBL would be harder to hack than PSN.

Microsoft is a software company that's been producing online software solutions for decades. They have a lot more experience in it than a hardware company that's only been offering a centralized online service for about 10 years.
It depends more on what type of experience the employees have. People who work with PSN might have 20+ years of experience in the field for example. I dont want to bad mount Microsoft, but Microsoft wasnt exactly known for great security (mostly referring to Windows and Internet Explorer). I'm not saying that this is related to Xbox Live, but i'm just talking about Microsoft and security in general. Microsoft has improved over the years of course, but they havnt been on top regarding security for decades. Overall, i think Microsoft has more software developement experience indeed (they have a lot of software developers), but that doesnt automatically mean that other things are less secure. The notion is that Linux is (or at least was) more secure than Windows eventhough that Linux is younger than Windows.

So lizard people are gonna get busted for that bomb threat thing but are they going to investigate FamedGod too? He is in the spotlight too which could suck for him.

I wish someone would update the op with all thats going on. Hard to follow all this if you're just joining in.

So the day is almost over here in Europe and PSN is still not up. Fucking great. Someone earlier in this thread said that Sony basically can't do anything but have to wait it out. If that's true, damn, that only means those hackers won and us gamers and Sony lost.

Well, yeah. He's claiming responsibility what I can only assume is a pretty major felony, so he's not going to skate either. They all fucked if the Feds can track them, which I hope they can.

I think this is affecting my PS4's ability to go into Standby Mode as well. I try to go into standby after checking to see if the network was still down and the light just stays white and fluctuates and never turns off. So I unplug it and turn it back on and let it do its thing and tell me to not unplug the PS4 unless it's fully off. Then I do the whole standby thing again and the white light flashes again. I guess I'll leave it alone until the network is working again. =/

It's up in Portugal. Vita.

I didn't watch all of this, but this pretty much confirms that FamedGod is a fucking COD kid that takes himself way too important and is a fraud :lol The date of the video confirms this.

What a clusterfuck.

Yea I'm watching this. If that video is true this kid is nothing special.

Obviously the morons doing this should be arrested, but maybe just maybe this will be a good wakeup to publicly known figures posting all details of their travel plans on public?

ok maybe by that logic one would say cisco would be harder to hack not MS. but regardless no one is immune there is no defense for this. Youy can make it harder but you cant prevent it.

Sony gets DDoS'd. Lizards Squad say that they're responsible. Some guy named Fame says that he's responsible, posts a bunch of nonsense acting as proof including location of Sony servers and random IP addresses. Lizard Squad people go insane, tweet bomb threat to American Airlines plane with SoE President on it, posting videos of 9/11 and images of ISIS saying they're ready to die for the caliphate.

I saw his picture from the skidpaste post. He's going to make a sweet little ass in the can.

Well ok...

Marlon B.: Hi, my name is Marlon B.. How may I help you?
seth : I am aware of the PSN outage. however, why can i not play any of my downloaded games offline?
Marlon B.: I see, Seth. I'd be happy to look into this for you today.
Marlon B.: At the moment our playstation server is in maintenance, to improve our quality service for you to enjoy our features in a better way, there is no estimated time, of when we are going to finish this update however, it usually takes 24 hours.
seth : ok. and the reason i can't play any of my games is why?
Marlon B.: Playstation server is in maintenance.
seth : So i have to be online all the time to play single player games?
Marlon B.: You can play single player mod, however for multi player, you will need to wait, this is just temporary.
seth : ok. So i am asking why i can't not play any of my games in any form. The games all have locks on them on the home screen. They won't even boot up.
seth : can not*
Marlon B.: Because they have been downloaded.
Marlon B.: You will need to wait until the psn network comes back.
Marlon B.: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
seth : All downloaded games have DRM that will not allow to play unless I am connected to the internet. Is this statement correct?
Marlon B.: That is correct Seth, until you get Online You will be able to play.

seth : That is unfortunate.

It's the equivalent of a company saying they can buy their way out of a traffic jam on the highway.
