Ryu Ga Gotoku (Yakuza) Zero Announced

28th of August is the reveal date right??!

It looks like they are having another event on the 28th so hopefully they reveal more than just the title of the game. If not I'd guess they'll properly show off the game at this years TGS like they do for previous entries in the series.

I think I'm happy to just watch Y5 and Y0 online with subtitles. Save myself the $100 and buy something else worth my money.

Thanks Sega!

"Zero" ...so it'll most likely be an "origin" story of young Kazuma Kiryu (maybe with playable Nishiki) so it'll going to be a big meh and completely unnecessary story to tell since there is no need for it as Yakuza 1 was amazing start for the story.

oh also It will be pretty freaking sad if they just rehashed Kamurocho again.

So nice of them to depict the "0" in English language in the logo when they are only intending to sell the game to the Japanese

Yeah, uh...that means nothing. English text is used all the time in JP games and anime and such.

I don't get why Sony isn't more involved with the Yakuza series. I understand it's basically a free exclusive because their platform is the best choice in Japan, but it's not like Sega couldn't release a WiiU version etc. as well.

SCEA/SCEE also failed to make Yakuza popular in the west imo. Especially nowadays it would be rather easy&cheap for their marketing (blog, streams etc.) to get more people interested than the few hardcores who already know the franchise

Help them a bit to develop a new engine for next gen, then help them with the localization (unless they would only get involved if they can publish and/or the game can get a dub), make it PS4 only.
Gives the Japanese an incentive to switch to next gen and the lost number of copies could somewhat be recouped by the western versions (Yakuza Ishin would have been nice this not so crowded winter...)

This could possibly take place before Y1, and explain why Kazuma was considered such a yakuza at the beginning of Yakuza 1. He was about to be given his own family before things went to shit. This could also mean a bunch of old characters from around that time can come back!

My guess would be that the game is a prequel to Yakuza1 that tells the story of Kazuma and Nishiki growing up in the orphanage and slowly getting into the gangster live-style while growing apart from each other. There's probably a promise between the two that get's broken, hence the title. It could also be referring to a real place that Kazuma, Nishiki and Yumi swore to meet again as friends when she left the orphanage.

This could be very interesting if done right; the Yakuza games that were set in other time periods have always been my favorite ones.

There's also a short movie from 2005 that covers this story. Takashi Miike was involved in that one, before directing the other Yakuza movie that follows the story from the first game.

Never going to happen. Series is DEAD in the West.
stranger things have happened.

sega need to raise their profile and take a risk at some point after alien releases, they can't just lean on that licence forever, the licence will probably run out after another two or three games.

they could have done with releasing the previous game earlier this year during that massive drought on the new consoles though. some people probably would have bought it just to have something to play.

Kiryu's gotta suffer some kind of massive head injury at the end of Zero to make him end up as weak as he is at the beginning of 1. Dude could barely pull off a Heat Move or combo.

really though, the series needs to come to the west again, but it needs to be digital only to keep costs to an absolute minimum. sometimes i wonder if there might be some success if they brought it over to pc...

ignoring fans forever is a bad idea though. why? because they're customers. they buy the product, they get invested in the brand. ignore them for long enough and they might just stop with sega stuff all together.

If Zero turns out to be a prequel to the main storyline I still hope they'll focus on new characters. Yakuza team have proven that they can write multiple interesting protagonists.

It would be really cool if this had some crossover with the flashback scenes from Yakuza 2.

It would be even cooler if I could actually play Yakuza 5. That stupid zombie game seems to have torpedoed the franchise in the west.

Gentlemen, I hereby declare Operation Beg for Yakuza ZERO.

Our aim is to look so desperate for this game that Sony and SEGA seek a localization solution for it's dear fans out of pity.

BELIEVE!

Haha those first posts killed me, so good.

Speaking of Yakuza, did anyone read the 'making of' of the first one in this months EDGE?

Imagine if they announced that they remastered Yaukza 5 for the ps4 and they included Yakuza Ishin and Yakuza Zero all translated for a Western release in one package. My dick would burst

Fuck it, I'm importing Yakuza 5 and strapping my face to the guide. Might as well go all out at this point and finally finish Dead Souls.

I have Yakuza Ishin which I still need to play (finsihing other titles on my backlog first) but I really can't wait for this one either. There literally hasn't been anything Yakuza related that I haven't played / seen (besides Ishin yet... of course). Played 1, 2, 3, Kenzan, 4, Dead Souls, 5, Shinshou, Shinshou 2, seen the movie and both series of the drama. Really awesome stuff! =)

Using English like that is considered "hip" in Japan. Kinda like us getting tough-looking chin-down-eyes-up dudebros.

I hope Nagoshi takes this opportunity to give Kazuma a little bit of a slight redesign, personally.

I've never been a fan of his PS3-era design, where his PS2 look got added a layer of grumpiness. He used to look cool and steady, but then he went sour and ugly.

He got older, dude.
