Because predicting the biggest bomb thread was so much fun.

Predict the top 5 grossing films (Worldwide box office) over the next three years (2015 - 2017)

You've got contenders like Star Wars Ep 7, Avengers 2, Avatar 2, Batman Bin Suparman, Jurassic World etc.

You only get to choose 5 titles for the entire 36 month period.

RANK THEM, 1 - 5

Go.

You named 4 of the 5 I was going say OP

damn same here... was also going to add Cap 3 to that list to make 5.

Avengers 2 ($1.7B)
Batman featuring some sort of Super man ($1.25B)
Avatar 2 ($1.2B)
Star Wars 7 ($1.175B)
Captain America 3 ($1.0B)
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 ($1.0B)

last 2 tied for 5th.

1. Avengers 2
2. Star War Episode VII
3. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
4. Finding Dory
5. Pirates of The Caribbean 5

Its impossible to say, really... Sequels usually don't perform as well as originals at the box office.

The highest grossing movie (in the US) of the year is Guardians of the Galaxy.

1- Avatar 3
2- Avatar 2
3- Avengers Age of Ultron
4- Batman Superman dawn of justice
5- Pirates of The Caribbean 5

I wanted to include Star wars 7 but i will take a risk on DOJ

Not true

The Hunger games

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $408,010,692 59.0%
+ Foreign: $283,237,076 41.0%
= Worldwide: $691,247,768

Catching fire

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $424,668,047 49.1%
+ Foreign: $439,897,616 50.9%
= Worldwide: $864,565,663

The sequel beat the first in both domestic and international markets. And there are many other examples.

Even if Avatar 2 is delayed a year, it still makes it for 2017.

According to IMDB Avatar 2 in 2016, and Avatar 3 in 2017. Hopefully there´s no delay.

Totally not true in modern cinema (if it ever was). Also, doesn't really matter.

World wide numbers:

13 out of the last 18 biggest movies of the year have been sequels.

  3. Avatar 2
  4. Finding Dory
  5. Guardians of the Galaxy 2

I think Batman/Superman, Pirates 5, and Captain America 3 will be up there though.

1. Avengers Age of Ultron
2. Avatar 2
3. Star Wars Episode 7
4. Star Wars Episode 8
5. Batman V Superman

Could switch 2 & 3 easily

Everyone is counting Avatar 3 out? It comes out in 2017.

There is no guarantee Avatar 3 is actually going to hit that date. The first film was already delayed multiple times. The second film has already been delayed multiple times...and has yet to start filming. It's not realistic to actually expect Avatar 3 in 2017. Time will tell though.

3. Batman vs. Superman
4. Avatar 2

Avatar 2 is going to gross like $4 billion, isn't it

  1. Star Wars Episode VII
  2. Avatar 2
  3. Avengers 2
  4. Batman v Superman
  5. Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Not super confident in Batman or Guardians, but couldn't think of anything better.

If Star Wars turns out badly it'll wind up a little below Avengers 2.

If Batman turns out badly, it won't make the top 5 (very possible but I'm holding out hope with Goyer gone).

Avatar and Avengers 2, it doesn't matter if they wind up badly. They'll still make that money.

Everyone is counting Avatar 3 out? It comes out in 2017.

I don't really believe A2 will be out in three years. But, you guys being confident has convinced me to put it on my list.

1) It's gotta be Star Wars unless the word of mouth isn't good.
2) Avatar 2 (the hype is real)
2) Avatar 3 (the hype is real)
3) Avengers: Age of Ultron
5) Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Sleepers: Justice League, Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, Untitled Star Wars Standalone Film (big IF), Warcraft, The LEGO Movie 2

3) Avatar 2
4) Batman v. Superman
5) Finding Dory

Cap 3 is very close to Dory. The top 3 can change depending on the quality, and competition. Marketing etc. Batman v. Superman can be the one I'm most incorrect on if it isn't great. Avatar is going to KILL in China.

Edit: Good choice on Fast 7 ^

1. Avatar 2
2. Star Wars Episode VII
3. Avengers: Age of Ultron
4. Star Wars Episode VIII
5. Finding Dory

If I thought Avatar 3 was going to release by 2017, it would be on here. Really unsure about Ep7 vs AoU, but willing to bet this will be one marketing campaign that Disney and Abrams will nail like nothing else.

It will be interesting to see if Disney do make it Christmas. I'm betting they're going to head back to May for Ep8. But if they DID go Christmas, they'd be competing against an Avatar sequel.

Didn't realize Avatar was Christmas. Hmm. Too bad, I liked the idea of Christmas being Star Wars time.

4. Star Wars Episode VIII

yep, and there's an unparalleled "legacy" audience stretching way up into the soon-to-be senior citizens.

love on your sleeve
1. Avengers 2
2. Avatar 2
3. Star Wars Episode VII
4. Finding Dory
5. Batman vs. Superman

I flipped flopped on 2 and 3 but I figure Avatar 2 will make it's money despite the fact that I've yet to meet a person who liked Avatar for more than it's visuals.

Ohh, fun.

Avatar 2
Avengers Age of Ultron
Star Wars VII
Finding Dory
Batman v. Superman

Only Cameron can beat Cameron. But anyways 2 and 3 are close for me. If Star Wars can generate immense hype then it'll beat AoU imo, but we'll see. Also that last spot is a toss up, I put BvS since I can't think of something else but I got a feeling once the time comes BvS won't stand against others. I'd be cool with being wrong though, if it means the movie is good.

Also Avatar 3 would be up there but I doubt it'll make it. And if we're being specific and it premieres in December of 2017 then that isn't really 3 years. Lol, same to star wars VIII.

1. Avatar 2
2. Avengers: Age of Ultron
3. Star Wars 7
4. Justice League
5. Batman v Superman

All over the billion dollar mark obviously.

I wonder if Age of Ultron will

1. Beat the first Avengers film
2. If 1, crack the $2b mark.

I think there's a chance of 1, but still doubt 2.

Assuming no further sequels, i.e Avatar 3, Star Wars, make it out before then:

1. Avatar 2
2. Avengers 2
3. Superman vs Batman
4. Star Wars Ep 7
5. Transformers 5

The 5 spot is pretty up in the air, I suspect another Frozen or Avatar or whatever that will come along and blow up big. Maybe Interstellar, Nolan has gold hands at this point and Inception hit over 800m when all was said and done. I believe Gareth Edwards Star Wars movie is slated in that time period as well, so if that makes it out then I think it's a good shot to be up there, particularly if 7 is good.

Well Batman v Superman is most definitely gonna make that list, there's no way a movie with two of the biggest superheroes ever doesn't do massively well.

I don't think it will crack 2 billion. But I also doubt avatar 2 will beat it's own domestic record. Now international is a different story

Yeah but who cares about domestic?

I think Avatar 2 will crack $2b, and will have a shot at the title due to the Chinese market explosion alone.
