Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

My opinion on the roster/css being final:

It's possible it's final, but it's also possible that there are more to unlock.

Won't know until launch. I can make up good reasons for either argument.

Also really hope the stage builder isn't gone, it has a ton of potential.

Surely it would've had to show up sooner or later to the ESRB after how many penis submissions there were in Brawl?

Snake... has nothing to do with Nintendo!

I choose Lucas, Ice Climbers, Chorus Men, Dixie, and Mach Rider... by default!!

Exclusive consoles don't count? I'm just going at a different angle than usual.

Two problems with this theory. First, is that we're assuming we saw everything important that was in the video. I don't know how long the videos are, but we only saw a short amount. Second, is assuming that the roster wasn't just an example recording and that later on they saw other questionable characters being played without using select screens.

Considering we saw no footage of the Devil assist trophy, I'd bet this was just a portion.
But my point is the Character Select Screen was included so the ESRB could see whether any of the playable characters are objectionable in and of themselves. It's starting with the big picture and working your way to the finer details.

I believe the complete CSS was included for the purposes of the "big picture" where playable characters are concerned, and thus that excerpt from the footage reflects the full extent of what will be unlockable in the base game.

I kind of doubt player created content will be rated. I mean, the ESRB doesn't rate online interactions for that reason

Hopefully now that Uprising happened Pit, Palutena and Dark Pit (!) will be able to do that.

Doc Louis too. Maybe. Hopefully.

God, I hope so. I adore KI:U's cast, but I kinda worry that with 3 characters, the situation will be like the Star Fox characters where the conversations are just pretty standard banter. I mean, that's not a bad thing by any means, and I see it being very likely due to Viridi's voice showing up in the Palutena trailer, but it's specifically the commentary on other characters that I really loved.

Doc Louis ring-side comments would be perfect, too.

Yeah but WHY wouldn't that have been finalized way before a video for the esrb was made? If that was the final roster at launch in the 3ds version that would be something that has been locked down for awhile now, and the css would have been made to accomidate that. Nobody who has seen these videos/images knows for sure that this is the final roster that's just a conclusion everyone jumped too and people are trying to be super pessimistic it seems like as to not disappoint themselves.
My theory is based on an assumption that the contents of the ESRB video are selections that could affect ratings. I say this because everything else seemed to be that way, I.E. gambling, drugs, sex, violence, religion, personal information, etc. Thus, why include the CSS screen if it doesn't affect ratings? I think it does affect ratings, and it affects ratings based on the game's character selection. Thus, the full selection of characters available in the base game were shown for this reason.

MGS3DS was kind of an embarrassment.

Let me put it this way: I own literally every single version of MGS3 (including all three HD collections, vanilla, Subsistence, and Legacy Collection) and never trade in games

I bought MGS3DS and traded it in when I was done.

You have no way to prove that either, all we can say for sure from the leaked esrb pics and video is that all the characters in that video are in the game. Plus the way sakurai makes games its completely possible that at the time noa was taking footage from build x they had already finished implementing more characters, or they could have been fine tuning the finalized roster.

We don't know the timeline of when this video was sent to the esrb, only that this leak first popped up in July so we know the video had to have been made/submitted sometime in June.

"When I was done"

I didn't think it was that bad especially with the CPP.
My only real complaint was that sometimes the small screen was an issue.
Such as in the fight with The Fear. The new additions were nice.

I'm at a Melee tournament at my university right now. Any tips for winning? It looks like their are a lot of good people here, and I'm playing as Young Link.
No hope. Spam projectiles. Hit them with normals when they're stunned by your projectiles. Go for keep away, not combos.

If only it was optimized it would have been a great port.

The fact is nowadays not only Sony, but even Microsoft is more related to Snake than Nintendo.

MGS2 HD, Peace Walker HD, MGS5... Nothing goes for Wii U.
That's more Konami's fault at not wanting to invest in a console that apparently doesn't sell than Kojima's fault, tho.

The Argument I come back to is that the creator and nintendo themselves felt that Snake was a great addition to SSB. Considering they allowed it. So why I can understand where people are coming from I can't really agree when the people making it didn't have a problem with it.

Famitsu revealed new pictures of N's Castle that matches the Stage Select Screen leaked.

A mod on Smashboards posts a new IMGUR. In it is a new "score" screen that shows Wolf and Impa, but both look sort of fake. The album also has a trophy of Starlow from Dream Team, using her flat official Dream Team artwork (and the "a" in her name is a different font from the Wario one leaked), two of Bandanna Dee, and two of Roy Koopa front and back, but not in the Clown Car, both of them seem to be just lifted from stock models. Roy has the wand from New Super Mario Bros., for instance.

Bob posts rude thing in miiverse, we talk about people getting the game or not cause of the roster, then we switch to talking about 3 extra newcomers for the game from each of the 3 parties, and then this picture and then you asked and I replied.

Thanks (Smash) Bros.! The imgur looks like it could be legit, but also could not be...and doesn't really...reveal much of anything importance, right?

Uh I remember reading reactions after the big leak, most people were definitely optimistic about there being more characters. I don't think everyone is jumping to pessimism.

I'm 50/50 on it.

My reasoning why there might be more characters: CSS is skewed, All-Star mode is locked, no Ice Climbers, and most importantly, we don't know how much footage and pictures were shown and how much we haven't seen.

My reasoning why this could be the final roster: Sakurai obviously isn't going to work his character count around the symmetricity of the CSS, it's very unlikely past characters like Wolf, Lucas, Ice Climbers would be unlocked after Bowser Jr., Duck Hunt Dog, Shulk, etc., the ESRB footage is meant to show off the content and thus all the characters, the leaker probably wanted to show off the most revealing shots and the select screen was it.

I don't believe the most recent imgur leak. Waddle Dee and Morton's pictures make me feel like I'm looking at a Garry's Mod screenshot.

So there's nothing to stop Sakurai from bucking tradition, but let's say he takes a page from Brawl in terms of hidden newcomers.

Brawl had four hidden newcomers: Toon Link (a clone), Lucario, Wolf and R.O.B.

Given my current theory that the leaked CSS is the full extent of characters in the base game, SSB4 could do the same: Dark Pit (a clone), Bowser Jr., Shulk and Duck Hunt.

So each game would have had four hidden newcomers, one of which is a clone, and one of which is a classic reference.

Again, Sakurai doesn't have to repeat the past. He could reveal some more before launch for the purposes of hype. They do have dedicated trailers, after all, and he'd probably want to roll them out at some point, unless they're meant to debut in-game.

We know from what the ESRB rates that there is nothing on the CSS that would even influence their rating process. So whether the roster is complete or not wouldn't matter at all.

Call me crazy but it's my favorite version because it has third-person shooting. I also love the 3D and I think the textures in the HD versions look off.

Yep pretty much.

In fact, that video isn't even going to disclose everything in the game comprehensively, it's accompanied by a document that lists the rest of the game's content, including anything on the disc that's not accessible via gameplay (unused assets, beta maps, etc).

There could be a lot of stuff we don't know about.

OR there could be nothing.

Gotta wait and see.

But why do you think the CSS was included in a video compilation of items relevant to the ESRB and their ratings?

I really do think it's a "big picture" look at the characters in this fighting game, so they can see you're not beating the crap out of naked women or who knows what.

They start with the big picture and then go into detail with individual cases.

That's more Konami's fault at not wanting to invest in a console that apparently doesn't sell than Kojima's fault, tho.

Wasn't Kojima like, literally, one of the Big Bosses from Konami? Maybe I remember wrong.

Well, I never got the Snake addition to begin with, but at least in Brawl's time an "exclusive" Metal Gear game (Twin Snakes) had been released for GameCube the previous gen. Now Snake is almost in every platform except Nintendo ones.

If that doesn't make him a better fit for something like Sony All-Stars, I don't know what does.
