Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

I don't think we would get newcomers from Nintendo Direct but I could imagine that they are going to announce Smash Direct in that Direct so that would explain Sakurai's tweet.

He was also grossly misrepresented. Used Sword of Seals but still his snotty pre-promoted stance that everybody hates because Roy is stuck in lvl 20 pre-promote until near end of the damn game. Easily the worst lord whose growths are wasted. Also, if he's using Sword of Seals, he really should have had been Marth with more range and less damage. In a perfect world, we would have gotten Hector or Ephraim instead.

FE has a tradition for misrepresentation in Smash Bros.. In the original games Ike excels in speed and skill while in Smash Bros. he is all about power and slow hits, with a fire attack (since when? thanks god it's a blue flame attack now). I think Sakurai isn't much into stats and focuses on the most evident physical traits of the characters while taking into account variety and overall balance.

Also, apart from the Ferox Arena the stages from the series are not inspired in real locales but pretty general medieval environments.

Well we already know who the newcomers are...

We know some of them, but I'm thinking there's more characters to be revealed because of Allstar Mode being locked for the leaker.

And while that may be true, I don't see Sakurai changing his game plan because one guy leaked some information. I imagine he'll stay the course.

In this post I learned that Lucario is a bigger deal than PAC-MAN and the Animal Crossing Villager.

For real?
Of course not, but Lucario was a hugely popular Pokemon and had a huge fanbase before Brawl even launched. He's a bigger name than a lot of the Smash 4 roster.
Serebii posted, back when Greninja was revealed, that GameFreak had released information that he was the most used Pokémon in Pokémon Amie. I'd say he's pretty popular.
I'm not saying he isn't popular, just that his popularity doesn't compare to Charizard, Mewtwo and Lucario. Greninja was the most popular starter in Gen VI and IS a cool addition (even if I'd prefer Squirtle). Also, keep in mind that the Amie data is likely skewed towards the new starters because people grow attached to them during the story. I remember I checked out Greninja in Amie while going through Y version, and then never really bothered with it again.

I think it's far from the best lineup of newcomers.
I've made bold the BIG names from each game. I'm sure you'll probably disagree with me on that, but I mean...who in that lineup appeals to the casual Nintendo fan? Robin, Lucina, Palutena, Dark Pit, Shulk and Greninja are all from games released in the last few years. Duck Hunt Dog and Little Mac are fairly niche characters as well. I seem to be in the minority in not being able to see the appeal of Wii Fit Trainer, and I'm not a big fan of Rosalina either. Mega Man is the only real big-hitter, and even then I doubt kids even know who he is these days.

Compare that to the likes of Bowser, Ganondorf, Mewtwo, Peach, Zelda, Diddy Kong, Lucario, Solid Snake...SONIC THE HEDGEHOG?! Nah, Smash 4 might have the most newcomers (and if you count Pokemon Trainer as three separate characters it doesn't even have that), but it's far from the best. AND then you have to take into consideration the cuts.

You say Greninja isn't a big name when he's pretty much Lucario's equivalent in Smash 4. Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Mii are pretty much the stars of franchises that exploded on the Wii and DS. Robin and Lucina come from the Fire Emblem game that pretty much saved Fire Emblem as a franchise. Shulk is the protagonist of a game that Nintendo fans actually forced Nintendo to bring to the West and from the first game of a franchise which Nintendo wants to promote. Rosalina and Bowser Jr. are pretty much regulars in the Mario franchise at this point, doubly so if Bowser Jr.'s alternate costumes are the seven Koopalings. Both Pac-Man and Mega Man are two of the most well-known video game characters ever. Both Little Mac and Duck Hunt Dog are from two of the most well-known NES games ever, especially the latter since Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt was a pack-in game for the majority of NES's out there. Even as a Nintendo fan, I think every newcomer for Smash 4 is a pretty obvious choice.

And besides, Bowser, Ganondorf, Peach, Zelda, Diddy Kong, Lucario, and Sonic are all still showing up for Smash 4. Everyone you bolded is still going to be in Smash 4 beside Mewtwo, Pokemon Trainer, and Solid Snake, and even then, we still get Charizard, who is one of the most popular Pokemon.

did not get to sleep at all...so I guess I wont be missing this direct. Yay? Maybe we will get a vet trailer ala Sonic?

EDIT: Went back a few pages, Thanks for concerning posts guys :)

We're going to get a swerve trailer that questions all our currently held Smash expectations like Robin/Lucina all over again, my derailed smash hype can feel it (I lied, the only feeling is numb).
Or we'll get nothing at all, also quite possible.

I'd avatar bet that we'll see nothing in the Direct but I don't want to lose my avatar a few weeks before Smash.

I still hope for something though. :(
