Xenoblade announced for New 3DS

Be advised though, this hasn't been announced yet outside of Japan, and I reckon that is not a given.

We all are aware that handhelds and JRPGs are very popular in Japan, so in the light of this this announcement in a Japan-only ND makes sense.

Well if it stays there then I will just keep playing PsOne games on my vita.
If they don't want my money that's fine.
I'm not gonna get all worked up over it

This game had enough issues on a Wii @ 480p as is. This really should have just been a Wii U remaster. I'm not really against exclusive titles for the 3DS revision but this is a weird choice.

Are some seriously defending this shit?

Defending what? New games only running on new hardware?

What is there to defend or be outraged about?

SO IT'S A NEW PLATFORM AND THEY CALLED IT 3DS AGAIN

WTFFFF

People will never understand! Confusion among the masses! Just look at the iPad situation!

The alternative is putting the game on the hardware people actually want it on. With actual improvements.

Anyone who would buy a WiiU for a Xenoblade remake will buy a WiiU for Xenoblade X.

On the other hand, some people will buy the New 3DS for this game. Seems like a pretty solid business decision.

They've insisted they won't be putting their games on mobile or competitor consoles, though.

I knew hose bastards ere up to something! "it's justa concept art", "they won't make anything", "just for open jobs"! FUCK YES XENOBLADE IN MY POCKET!

I am aware of that. I am arguing that they shouldn't release a 3DS game that can't be run on 3DS and 3DS XL then. It is a stupid decision.

Let me get this straight. So, between "no game at all" and "yes game, but only for the revision that has more power"... you choose no game at all? If you can't play it, nobody can?

OK, I guess.

Looks like Nintendo ran out of ideas for their next handheld.

Explain? Since when is a hardware revision by Nintendo a marker that "they have run out of ideas"? If so, I guess the LCD Vita was a suicide letter, right?

Missed opportunity. New 3DS? What is that? This game screams HD, would be much better if on the Wii U. I can't imagine playing a 100 hour rpg on a small screen.

Is it going to be the Xenoblade Wii game ported, or a new Xenoblade game?

Long RPGs do well on handhelds though. The various Dragon Quest ports, Final Fantasys, etc. all play well on the small screen and nearly all of them can go into the triple digits. Some of the best selling 3DS titles are RPGs people sink thousands of hours into.

It's not, it's a small update to the 3DS hardware likely to buy time for the next handheld. Also this is the best 3DS possible for playing all 3DS games going forward, which will be nice since the next handheld likely won't be backwards compatible.

I wonder if my 3DS will be able to play half the games that come out from now on then. I should probably get to selling it before a lot of people know about this.

Also, are the talking about the XL that is the new 3DS, or is this a whole new 3DS they are talking about? Talk about confusing.

FFX/X2 remastered was the best on the Vita. I put in well over 100 hours into each and loved being able to play it on the bus, metro, waiting for appointments and in bed.

I'm not sure I 100% understand your question, but there is both a *New* 3DS, and a *New* 3DS LL, both feature the processor improvements.

I would have preferred HD but considering I used to bring my WiiU into work to play Xenoblade... I'll be buying this.

I was about to buy an XL refurb for the larger screen, so it's not like the LL is a dreaded purchase for me. Sucks for people that just bought though. :(

What?! NO! New 3DS only!? Damn it!
Looks like I will have to get it now for Xenoblade... god damn you Nintendo.

This is a pretty shitty move though... I understand why, but no other company does this. They usually stick with the specs until next gen, but this is like... 1.1 to next gen, they didn't need to make such a move until next gen

Edit: Oh wait Xenoblade "remake" for 3DS? Phew. Not so necessary after all... For now. I sadly feel a game will be announced that I can't ignore though for this only.

Oh wow...portable Xenoblade Chronicles, of all games! That is amazing news.

I wonder how many games are now going to be exclusive to this new 3DS? I could end up selling my current 3DS XL and switching to the new model (of course, I suppose that's Nintendo's plan!).

What is you problem with it? The 3DS is too crap to run this downport. The New 3DS can pull it off with downgraded textures, framerate problems and pop-in. Why not let people have a reason to buy New 3DS?

It is almost like would you rather they just cancel this and have new 3DS with circle pad pro built-in, NFC reader and faster web browser as the reason to buy (all important issues).

Given how it is TBA outside of Japan I doubt there will be a tide of exclusive software. I'd expect to see more slightly enhanced software though.

I've been reading a lot of the posts in this thread, and this is the most agreeable post I could find. It's as if people don't want a new, better 3DS, despite all of the complaints people have had about the system being underpowered. New improved hardware costs money to upgrade to for any system, this shouldn't be surprising and getting this much outrage, but okay, I guess?

I do wish Nintendo would stop posting New in front of things though. I really do.

On topic though, I'm looking forward to seeing how this version of Xenoblade actually runs on release. 3DS games tend to look much better when you actually play the game instead of watching video footage or still images.

So you can't run this game on an XL that is out currently? Whoa, well, let us hope the new XL can do some AA, but I doubt it.

Vita has a much higher resolution. Xenoblade was not playable on the Wii for me due to its already low resolution. Squishing it on to a 3DS screen now? No thanks.

No other company does this?

Who? Sony? What other companies are making portable gaming devices?

Look at the mobile phone arena, where portable gaming has largely moved, and you have yearly upgrades on flagship models.

So I have to buy a new 3DS for this? Damn it Nintendo... I hope transferring all of my digital games isn't a hassle..

There is now a 2DS, 3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, and new 3DS XL. The latter 2 have improved processors.

Exclusive to the New 3DS only due to its increased CPU.

LMAO.

...

LMAO.

...

LMAO. Oh, Nintendo... yeah, because I'm totally buying a third 3DS revision just for one title. Get the fuck out of here.

This is screwing with the 2DS as well. If they actually gave a 3DS that removed the 3D gimmick with this new processor, maybe I'd trade in my five month old in bought years 2DS. But nope. I've got Dolphin to play Xenoblade, Nintendo. No thank you.
