Xenoblade announced for New 3DS

It is a revision. But Nintendo has done this type of revision multiple times (Game Boy Color, DSi, and now this). The only handheld to escape this was the Advance, and that was because of its extremely short lifespan before the DS popped up.

I'm just not seeing why so many people are outraged when Nintendo has been doing the forever for their handhelds. Especially one coming out so late in its lifestyle. They do this so people will buy the New 3DS.
 
I'm really excited for this, I'll buy both the new 3DS and the game for sure.

They really should give it a better name than 'New 3DS' though, or else they'll have people confused for sure.

Name it 3DS+ or something like that, IDK.

Tell me about it. 4 hours earlier today I paid, in full, for a new Smash Themed 3DS and ordered the Metal Slime Japanese 3DS(this is soon cancelled).

Oh yes, yes it was. The 20 other fps was only for Japanese audiences.
 
I don't know how I feel about this.
I was seriously expecting them to re-release it on WiiU or something to get more hype towards Xenoblade Chronicles X.

I It's still cool that it's going to be made into a portable game, but I'm not sure I'll be getting it.

PS: Also people mentioning the DSi. Were there any major releases (like this) that were exclusive to the Dsi. I honestly can't remember

New 3DS is the worst possible name.
 
This New 3DS sounds like a dumb name.

"Hey, bud, did you get the New 3DS?"
"Wait..what.. is there a new 3DS that came out?"
"No, it's called New 3DS"
"Why?"
"Because Nintendo"

The device is a 3DS, but upgraded like the 3DS XL. Fuck.
 
I'm doubtful about this coming to the US given the issues with bringing the first one over, though I guess if it's a "launch" title to get customers to buy the upgraded system maybe it has a better chance.

I have no intention of buying it - I played through the EU version on a modded Wii, and have to get through the US version on my Wii U - but I'm glad Nintendo is giving the series more attention and support.

And I'm still waiting to see the new 3DS game Monolith Soft seems to have been working on (God, 3DS game that's new, not "new 3DS"... that naming scheme is going to get old reeaaallly quick).

A hypothetical PS4 Slim probably wouldn't have a different, more powerful chipset. The New 3DS has a new, improved chipset, and games that make use of that additional horsepower obviously won't run on the previous 3DS model. This isn't a redesign, it's a new generation. Except Nintendo is doing a soft transition, similar to what smartphone manufacturers have been doing for many years.
 
This is crazy. I just finished it on the Wii yesterday, and now this?

I don't really have a desire to replay the entire game again, but this is perfect for anyone who missed out on the Wii version and doesn't want to pay the ridiculous prices for a used copy.

I know there's outrage regarding the fact that it's only playable on new 3DS... but it's going to be on the eshop, right? That's the important thing here. It's not a limited release that will be selling for $90 used on ebay. Eventually, the new 3DS price will drop, and Xenoblade will be waiting :)

I understand why Nintendo is doing this but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it. I also didn't agree with it when they announced the DSi.
I don't see why it should be okay only because they have done this in the past already. Shitty practices don't become good ones just because they are being repeated over and over again.
 
The only rationale I can find for someone wanting this game is if they couldn't find a copy of it on the Wii. The locales in this game are so sprawling and vast I don't think playing it on the 3DS would do it any justice at all, but, I wasn't exactly enamored with this game as much as other people were anyway.
 
I wonder to what extend the additional CPU resources are necessary. Afaik, it's still a mystery what the changes actually involve.


As a side note, is it technically possible that pre-revision games can benefit from the increased CPU out of the box? I would guess not, but every system works differently.

It could have if Sony was a total dick. If the original PS4 still plays all games the PS4 slim it can have a Broadwell i7 for all I care.

I meant BIG. as in BIG. XENO blade is BIG. A large game. We don't have large scale games like that on the vita. At least as far as I know besides Sao
 
Ahahaha I just realized Majora's Mask would probably be exclusive to new 3DS. Just like how the original needed expansion pak!
 
As much as I love Xenoblade I don't think I want to play this on a 3DS. It doesn't look at good at all from the video available.

What do you want them to do? Just abandon all hope of attracting a larger audience right now?

Or maybe you want them to launch a completely new system when their current systems are both struggling to make good profits?

edit: Better yet, launch a new handheld next year and make another colossal error in hardware/services design because they didn't take advantage of a half-step to figure out their approach.

Oh they most definitely can, I'm still not seeing why the outrage over THIS particular thing. Want to talk about mistakes, talk about the lack of any good games the first few months this generation, the haphazard directs (which America is needed of one for a while now), the low battery life of the first models, the PR, etc.

The "argument" is that this "New 3DS" is something done before and something we shouldn't act like this came out of nowhere. Though, as usual, Nintendo can do no RIGHT to some people here.

They put a little bit of resources into porting it for the New 3DS. It opens up the game to a new audience and will drive more people to buy XCX.

If you don't want to play it on the 3DS go play it on a Wii or a Wii U. It's the same game.

The same people who made this downgraded port could have made a Wii U port.

Porting to Wii U would very likely have taken less resources than 3DS optimization.

I bought a 3DS expecting to play all 3DS games because I have something against Nintedo.

It's a way to get people to buy a new handheld. The 3DS hardware market is falling at a rapid rate. This new 3DS is something to keep that market alive for another few years (probably 2-3) before the new handheld is announced. The Xenoblade exclusive and other New 3DS exclusives are just ways to increase incentive to "upgrade."
 
the battles look like they run the same to me. well I think it does lol it's been two years since I played Xenoblade.

especially when that button in the middle appears and you gotta input skills. There's intentional slowdown there.

Nintendo just follows Apple. I don't see any confusion every time Apple comes up with the "New iPad".

But Xenoblade 3DS has the potential to reach a bigger audience, especially people/kids who don't even know about the original Xenoblade Chronicles - since it was only a niche-hit on the Wii - and thus help increase the awareness of the Wii U sequel.

This is as much of a new generation as the DSi was a new generation to the DS.
While technically the DSi was a more powerful piece of hardware with some exclusive software that took advantage of it, it certainly wasn't positioned or treated as a new generation or successor to the DS by Nintentdo and its audience.
The only difference this time around is, while Nintendo continues not to position this new model as a new generation or successor, that the few exclusive software planed for it seem to actually be relevant. Not to position it as a new generation or successor while investing in relevant exclusive software is one recipe for user-base split.
