Uh, have any of you guys heard anything about a Smash Bros copy being out in the wild?

Someone on 4chan posted this screenshot. I've never seen it before.

Geek-Konga!!

Does anyone else find it amusing that we got ZSS in workout gear, and there was a massive thread of people upset about her sexualization, but the response to Shulk getting a swimming trunks outfit is "K"?

Pretty sure Bathing Suit Shulk obliterates the argument against Zero Suit Samus. If sexualization is even-handed everything is cool.

The past stages we've officially seen are:

Jungle Japes (Melee)
Brinstar (Melee)
Corneria (Melee)
Distant Planet (Brawl)
Green Hill Zone (Brawl)

We've seen leaked footage of:

Yoshi's Island (Brawl)

The remaining past stages from the leak that haven't been seen outside of the stage select are:

Mushroomy Kingdom (Brawl)
WarioWare, Inc. (Brawl)
Pictochat (Brawl)
Flat Zone 2 (Brawl)

All of the ones shown officially are accounted for on the leaked roster. Most of the franchises with past stages are represented solely through past stages with the exception of Mario.

Oh yeah, forgot about Yoshi's Island in the leaked footage.

Neat that there's so many stages returning, though it sucks that there's not as many new ones. Maybe there will be some surprises left? If not, there's always the Wii U version.

And that's just as bad. They should've never bothered with Smash 3DS if it meant compromising the whole game, but Nintendo probably saw the 3DS version selling the most and they thought the console needed the boost (seeing as it's he only thing that really sells)

This is what I've thought since the first announcement, the WiiU was doing awfully and they were scared of putting all this effort into a new smash game to sell what would probably end up being less than Melee.

I was incredibly skeptical of it then, I grew even more skeptical when he said both rosters would be the same and I'm even more now that we have reason to believe ICs aren't in the game.

It's great that a portable smash finally exists for the people that want it, but roster parity is such a fucking dumb idea.

There was no thread full of people upset over it, it was just preemptive "lol inb4 people are upset at this".

Y'know, I always found it weird that Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser and Rosalina were all revealed and, presumably, available to play from the start. Made me wonder if there was a chance there was another hidden Mario character. Now I know I was right, except not only is there one, but possibly two hidden Mario fighters.

Yeah, I think roster parity might make people less likely to buy both versions. If you get exclusive characters on one or the other, it makes you want to buy both.

It's good customer service though. Less 'shady.' The only concern is, still, ice climbers. Let's see what turns up, I guess.

Two music related questions:

Is the soundtrack offer for buying the 3ds and Wii U versions of smash the whole soundtrack or just a sort of best of thing?
If it is the whole thing then I will definitely rethink my decision not to buy Smash 3DS. If not, then I'm still on the fence-ish.

Is the version of You Will Know Our Names in the Shulk trailer arranged or not. I don't think it is, but a couple of sections have me questioning.

Wow, what a Direct to miss out on! Glad to see confirmation that the leak was 100% real. Still holding out hope that the rumor including Dixie/Chorus Men/Mewtwo/Ridley might be true, but we'll see.

Here's a list of Kirby's Specials with my own predictions:
  • Neutral: Inhale
  • Custom Neutral 1: Ice Breath
  • Custom Neutral 2: Leaping Inhale
  • Side: Hammer
  • Custom Side 1: Launch Hammer - sends the opponent flying upward diagonally
  • Custom Side 2: Big Hammer - hits with more power than the regular hammer
  • Up: Final Cutter
  • Custom Up 1: Earth Wave - slams the ground, rumbles the ground to trip the opponent
  • Custom Up 2: Rising Cutter - rises straight upward with no drop
  • Down: Stone
  • Custom Down 1: Shovel Stone - buries the opponent in the ground
  • Custom Down 2: Meteor Stone - hits the opponent as a meteor strike

Ugh, I know. I had really hoped she might get something new, like her emotions from Super Princess Peach. Alas...

Yeah, I could see that happening, and Peach's final smash is disappointing since it was okay since people can avoid it easily.

I wonder if half-measures would work with implementing Ice Climbers on the original 3DS. If, for example, they were free DLC or in the base game and available for both versions; but those using the original 3DS would be unable to play with more than two Ice Climbers at once? It'd be less shady than making them console-exclusive, and not being able to do "Team Ice Climbers" events in Classic Mode isn't too much of a tradeoff.

I don't think it's shady honestly if they handled it slightly differently.

Smash for 3DS and WiiU is apparently supposed to be Smash 4 & 5 respectively.

Why didn't they just name then differently then and not force roster parity so that nobody gets any ideas about getting ripped? It would be clear that one was meant to be the lite version.

I'd be fine with the WiiU version releasing later, hell, maybe even a year later, if it had more characters like it should do.

I'm assuming you've not watched the 3DS commercials and 5 minute trailer?

it shows Mushroomy Kingdom and Yoshi's Island.

It's to reward people who buy it day 1 and sign up to club nintendo. It helps nintendo out, so they reward you.

Makes sense. But this time it's rewarding you for buying two games on different platforms. This should be limited in time rather than limited in stock (e.g. buy both until February 2015, get your reward in March 2015).

If a game had 25 regular characters and there were 10 secret characters, the promotional videos would not say "over 30 characters!" Because they could say "over 20 characters!" and still be correct without giving away the number of unlockables with some dumb commercial tag line.

"Over 40 characters" literally proves nothing.

I feel pretty confident we'll be able DLC for these games, after the way they've handled Mario Kart. And if there's still no Ice Climbers, I will cry.

They announced Smash for both systems at E3 when they announced the Wii U I thought. It hadn't even done badly yet.

Not that I think people should be upset about Zero Suit Samus, but trying to imply a double-standard sort of ignores all history of sexualization along gender lines.

In the context of, you know, all video games, a woman in a skimpier outfit is usually done to please the straight male audience while a man in a skinnier outfit is usually a funny gag.

Wasn't 3DS only the original plan?

Oh really? My bad then.

Still don't like the idea that they were created with the intention of them being the same version but on different systems.

I wonder how they'd handle a handheld Smash if they HAD to make one without gimping the home console version.

Wasn't 3DS only the original plan?
"Plan" is a strong word--a handheld version was Sakurai's original vague idea, and the Wii U one came later, but this was back when it was all just a bunch of ideas floating around in his head during Uprising's development. When they both began preproduction, it was both at once.

I'm guessing it's the game's whole soundtrack seeing as they show 2 CDs.

Are you sure? I don't think I've heard that, but it's a scary thought.

If that had transpired, I don't think I would have even bought it. I don't mind the 3DS version as something to tide me over until the proper version release but as a standalone? No way I'd pay for that.#

I'm guessing it's the game's whole soundtrack seeing as they show 2 CDs.

The 2 CDs are also red and blue, the two colours for each version. It's safe to say it's the entire soundtrack.

I'm surprise you guys ain't talking about the free soundtrack you get when you register both the 3ds and WiiU versions.

Because you have to register both versions, and it isn't even the full soundtrack. Not much of a deal, if you ask me. I wish they would just make an album with the full soundtrack and sell it in a bundle with the game. I'd gladly pay an extra $15-$20 for that.

Found my new main.

He has Bayonetta's legs

For nothing in the world would I reject an alt like this, but I feel like Chrom not being on the roster cheated us out of FE swimsuit alts. I will forever mourn the fact that swimsuit Robin & Ike aren't a thing. If only...

I'm really not interested in sparking up a debate and this will be my only post on the subject, but Smash Bros has a primarily male demographic and a primarily male development team. There are legitimate reasons that the sexualization of a mostly absent "other" is different from putting a fellow guy in swimming trunks. You can't really objectify something you are because it's dependent on the reaction of people who aren't. Saying it's ok now because Shulk is in swimming trunks reminds me of people who think it's racist that there's a BET channel but no WET. Sadly, I've heard people make that argument in person. Parity is not always equality.

That said, everything in Smash Bros looks pretty harmless compared to the tit parade that is other fighting games.

Just a heads up, if it's anything like the zelda OoT 3DS soundtrack for club nintendo... do it DAY ONE. EVERYTHING DAY ONE.

First thing in the morning if you can.

Those ran out really quick, and that was back when 3DS was a wee little baby.
NoE's broke day one so all the early activations didn't go through, my own included!

Luckily they came up with a solution so everyone got a CD. Was proper worried.
