Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Since Sakurai said that Lucina is lucky one so I could imagine that Dark Pit and Dr Mario were lucky as well to fill out the cut characters' spots.

Maybe that would make sense considerating of Gematsu leaks where they said Lucas was debated to be cut or not, and considering to down with DLC path.

Ice Climbers, Lucas, Chorus Kid and Snake were cut. I meant, look at single representative in second from bottom row. It could meant to be for ROB, Ness, Lucas, Cap Falcon, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer (dr Mario), Ice Climbers (Dark Pit) and Chorus Kid (Lucina).

Wolf would push ROB into next row which would make sense to have an entire row of animal-based characters. Yeah, cuts had to happens. Well it could be argued that Mewtwo could push Dog into next row too but who know.

It's all speculation.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this one. I think it would make sense.

Lol at that Ganondorf accidental confirmation from the preview video, they didn't learn from last time when they accidentally leaked Ness, Lucario and Jigglypuff in Brawl.

I echo the sentiment that I hope the party members that join Shulk for his Final Smash are randomised and are not just limited to Riki and Dunban. That way we'd have a pitch perfect representation of Xenoblade imo.

Well if we weren't convinced before TP Ganondorf is the version they are using. Again. In the same Brawl Stance as well. Implying still clone crap. Hopefully his custom specials change his gameplay dramatically.

Shulk seems really awesome now that he is shown properly. And has Dunban so he gets a passing grade. Maybe his FS has differences based on the Monado Art he is locked into?

But we might have a new boss character and from Xenoblade to boot.

Would have been great if it had been a newcomer that wasn't even on leaks.
So we could speculate on it.

I just wanted to say one thing.
Why is it that Links Down A is his "knockout" move. That thing is crazy powerful especially in Project M. I can't help but get a little salty when a Down move like that has me flying off the stage.
Oddly enough it's the only Down knockout move that bothers me like that.

I was always thinking the 3DS version looks good but thought the Wii U version would be the real deal. After these days of hype and the Japanese 3DS introduction video I'm completely sold on this title; fucking amazing how far a team can go for a handheld game.

Damn it, even though I'm still mourning the loss of Lucas that Shulk trailer has sort of restored my hype. Looks like Ness is back to my main, and I have a new secondary main (unless something happens and I get freakishly good with Shulk).

That's where I am sitting with Snake.
I am still truly sad about his loss ATM. But With this and the other newcomers I have seen i'm quite happy with what I am getting. Actually have more than 1 character to look forward to unlike in Brawl where I had Ike and Snake as my only mains and characters I liked to play as.

It's not his only ko move if that's what you're implying, it's just a pretty good spike.

Why are you so salty about it anyway? I don't get it.

It's mainly due to my friend only plays link and thats the one move that gets me every single time.
Even when I know it's coming.

Shame a select few others can't notice how great it is.

Some idiot on Smashboards basically called it a beta, seriously lol

It's a fantastic version for sure. It'll be hard to compare the two, however, until the Wii U one is out. They might be very close, or the Wii U one might be miles ahead (in content/modes). We'll see in the future.

git gud :^)

It's a pretty punishable move, just bait it and then set up a combo or use a finisher.

In Project M he has a lot more annoying things than his Dair.

When is this media event at PAX and when can we reasonably expect impressions from VGBC?

Yeah, no idea :/

The more smash info I get, the thirstier I get. I got used to the drip feed of picture of the day, but then every time we get info dumps I just want more and more and more.

I'm chain-chomping at the bit, here.

Yeah I know lol.
I use snake so I have gotten some good tips now especially VS link.
Just haven't been able to play my friend in awhile. I'll end up getting him I know it.

Having played both at E3, the Wii U one does stand out. The screen size/slider make the 3DS one just feel off. The outlines help, but it's still hard to keep track of everything going on (especially when the camera moves out for 4 players) on a screen that size, sadly.

But I mean, I'll be getting both either way :)

It's always a good idea to just watch videos of your character being played by pros, if there's a specific matchup you're having trouble with it's worth looking into seeing if there's any professional matches with these characters, alternatively it's worth checking out the Project M Snake subforum on smashboards if you want to have a discussion about it with other Snake players.

Obviously Professor Pro and Rolex are the main people you want to be looking up for finding out what snake can do.

You probably know all this sort of stuff anyway, but it's a good general rule for anyone who wants to get better with their preferred character, not to mention just straight up playing more with more people, playing the same person over and over again means you get good at beating that person more than get good at your own character really.

So the Select soundtrack Samples redirect to the Smash Music page so I guess anything that pops up there will be on that OST Collection?

--------------

Since Sakurai loves clones so much I totally wouldn't mind Dunban being a clone of Shulk and just swapping the 2 around so Shulk assists in the FS instead.

Also miffed Bowser does not get the SMG/Mario and Luigi RPG voice actor. Again.

My stab at what the All-Star mode stages will be:

1980-1981: Mr. Game & Watch, Pac-Man, Mario, Donkey Kong
1983: Luigi
1984-1985: Little Mac, Duck Hunt, R.O.B.
1985-1986: Peach, Bowser, Link, Zelda, Samus
1986-1987: Pit, Palutena, Mega Man
1990: Marth, Dr. Mario, Yoshi, Captain Falcon
1991-1992: Sonic, Kirby, King Dedede, Wario
1993-1994: Fox, Falco, Meta Knight, Ness, Diddy Kong
1996-1998: Pikachu, Charizard, Jigglypuff, Sheik, Ganondorf
2001-2002: Villager, Olimar, Bowser Jr., Toon Link
2004-2005: Zero Suit Samus, Ike, Lucario
2006-2007: Rosalina & Luma, Wii Fit Trainer
2010: Shulk
2012-2013: Dark Pit, Robin, Lucina, Greninja

I love that the characters are presumably fought in chronological order based on their first appearance rather than when their respective franchises began.

That's probably a good assumption to make, but I wouldn't get upset if one of the songs isn't on there.

A Smash Bros. Melee Iron Man tournament between Mang0, M2K, Silent Wolf, and Westballz is going to happen on the Twitch stream at PAX in 30 minutes!! If I recall, they each get to have three characters.

www.twitch.tv/twitch

Get hyyyypppeeee.

Just to remind everyone--there are only two new stages in the 3DS version we haven't been officially shown. That's ridiculous.
Again, just like with the character roster, I'm going to wait until after the Wii U is released and hear from Sakurai about post-launch plans before I begin getting upset.

Yup. Until all is said and done, i'll just wait and assume 'plans are not fully realized right now.'

And then, maybe 6 months after that, in case of DLC (like mario kart/pikmin 3 getting dlc announced at a later date)

I think the rest is just from this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omeOylQYkuU

Ganon's in there I think? Ganon's in something.

I'm not sure where the All Star thing is from. Maybe from that, maybe from a separate Japanese commercial.

Edit: I mean, all I know other than Shulk is:

Well there really isn't a LOT of information just so much as there is BIG information.
Two major things:
1) Shulk, as you know
2) New 3DS XL and LL announcements

The first solidifies the leaks as 100% legit. If there was any room for doubt before, that should now be tossed aside COMPLETELY.

Also Nintendo goofed in a Japan trailer for Smash 3DS where Ganondorf is visible for a split of a second. (Personally I think it was intentional, cause Sakurai and Nintendo as a whole love throwing in hints/secrets like that.)

That's pretty much it...

Thanks guys!

So Shulk having 5 modes pretty much confirms that text leak about Alph being an Olimar alt, the 7 Koopalings being alts for Bowsy... and the cuts: Ice Climbers, Lucas, Wolf and Snake.

Do you think they may have a shot as DLC?

I assume Ice Climbers is a lock for the wiiu version, lucas and wolf probably could be part of the first dlc batch as well since they'll take less time compared to a complete newcomer.

Snake is gone, he had a once in a life time chance
